Ok don't freak out, I've heard of this before.
What I'm about to tell you may come as a shock:
It is not normal to feel like someone peeled back your skin and wedged some dry ice into your back on either side of your spine
Go see a REAL doctor. In real life. Outside. Well, inside, but outside first. Maybe outside, it really depends on where you live. Just play it by ear.
EVE FORUM DOCTORS CANNOT XRAY YOU!!!!

It can only be caused by a combination of AIDS, Ebola, Typhoid, and T-Virus, all of which had to have been acquired AT THE SAME TIME.
I'll let your imaginations go to work as to how that could happen. And yeah, you'd probably want to see a real doctor. ---

First off, did you check to see that your skin wasn't peeled back then taped back down? Judging by the sound of it, you may have just slept on it wrong. Try taking some Advil (Ibprofen) or Aspril (acetlysalictic Acid) and see if that helps at all and if it goes away. If you still have it after a few hours or its still there tomorrow consider seeing a licensed physician or I can give you my brothers e-mail, hes just finished 3rd year nursing. Hope that helps. -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is born right handed, only the great over come it.

First of all, even if WE WERE doctors, that's hardly an appropriate way to get a diagnostic : your description is too vague, it doesn't help (much) for you to describe in graphic terms how exactly does it hurt. What would help would be the precise "3D" location of the pain (you said it's "highly defined"), wether it hurts constantly or not, and that's just the very start. I doubt you can get us an x-ray pic at home, for instance. It could be anything out of a wide number of possible things, included but not limited to intercostal neuralgia (only if it hurts when you try to move any muscles in the area, otherwise it should only be a dull pain or no pain at all, if you sit perfectly still), kidney issues of many possible kinds (anbything from you passing a kidney stone to kidney failure), a spinal nerve getting pressure from an ugly sleeping position, or any other wide range of (less and less likely) things.
So, I'm going to echo the ones above when I say... GO SEE A FREAKING REAL-LIFE DOCTOR already. Not that he would necessarily find what's going on with you (even if he probably will), but at least you'll get some test results back

Ok I'm not usually a jerk like this but it's acetylsalicylic acid, not whatever the hell you said.
To the OP, go to a real doctor, we can't help you. Too vague.

The new DR Who is awful. It's so low budget. Take that picture for example. If you had a time machine would you really choose to goto a London council estate?

Sounds like an acute case of Afreskinomolitus. The only cure is to peel off a patch of skin near your groin and rub salt into it.

Edited by: Amastat on 02/06/2008 10:35:43 First to make a remotly meaingful post!
It sounds like you either pulled a muscle, or more likely pinched a nerf. Probably you pinched a nerf.
Does it feel like a disk in your back in any way? Does it hurt if you twist your body left or right? Does the pain go away if you arch your back or lean back? Does it feel like it's burning in any way? Does it feel like a "flu" feeling - not the burning hurt feeling, but the sick flu feeling?
I'm not a doctor at all but I know someone who has extensive medical knowledge, and I have my fair share of back problems. My medical consultant said the same thing as me - it sounds like a pinched nerve; aka don't worry it will eventually go away. I just pinched the nerve in my back not even a day ago, and it's gone now. ____________________
