Within days, version 3 of Firefox will go live. Mozilla has launched a Download Day site where you can register to get a email when the browser is available and take part in setting a record for most downloads in 24 hours.
So if you like the browser and want to take part... clicky here.
The site also has a nice animated map over where users has registered from.

Sorry if this is a noobish question, but what will FF3 improve on over FF2?

Lots of new features. To me, its speed is very nice and also its small footprint and awesome plugins. Compared to Firefox 2, web applications like Google Mail and Zoho Office run twice as fast in Firefox 3.
Here is another new features site.

As with all new software releases, I plan on waiting a month or so until they discover (and fix) whatever happens to be wrong with it ------

You don't have to install it, you could just download it to help them get more publicity for it. If you're that worried about it, then don't recommend it to your friends/family as they ask you to, but surely it's got to generally be a good thing for this to get more attention? - Originally by: Kyrall Pfft antivirus? I'm not sure I see the point in clogging up their bandwidth with a download if I don't intend to use it right away. Besides, its not my job to do their marketing for them, admirable open-source project or not. 'Tis a gimmicky event, and nothing more.
I'm happy sticking with FF2 until I actually intend to upgrade, which will probably be in a month or so, after the usual wave of minor bugs and security problems have been swept up.

Off topic: Adopting software early and submitting detailed bug reports for anything you run into is generally considered helpful. On topic: I liked FF, but now it I feel that it is to mainstream tbh. (I like to be an elitist on occasion I.E. EvE> WoW or Web 2.0 sucks) I think I'll be moving back to opera or something else. (any recommendations?)

I'm pretty much the same way, but, having been forced to use IE, then if it doesn't have gestures, ad-blocking, decent bookmark handling, tabbed browsing, do all of these as well as Firefox and work at least as fast as Firefox, then I'm not interested. So... any recommendations?
Edit: It's got to display images too... - Originally by: Kyrall Pfft antivirus? Real men use a hard drive tank.

Oh, definitely. But as someone who only uses the computer for a bit of light entertainment of an evening while doing other things, I just plain can't be bothered with all that. Odds are I wouldn't even notice the bug (minor, easily fixed, but still overlooked security issues say, the like of which accompanied both the FF2 and IE7 releases (FF notably fixed them a hell of a lot faster, incidentally)) except in the case of terrible disaster. I mean its not like I'm a power-using web developer, here ------

FF3 had better be a big improvement, I found FF2 to be extremely slow at rendering pages compared to opera and IE7 (although i used ff on fedora and ie on windows so hard to compare)

Indeed. If it weren't for the plugins, I'd have gone back to IE. - Eve IGB Store Template - The complete eve retail solution. |

Hah, what a coincidence, I've just been playing that! I finally got around to watching Advent Children the other day and just had to play it again. Of course, I have no idea where my discs are (never lend games to people, especially not ones this amazing), or my playstation for that matter, so I downloaded it for the PC, and it took an hour or so to get it working. Damn well worth it though!
Anyway, back to the topic... - Originally by: Kyrall Pfft antivirus? Real men use a hard drive tank.
