Goonswarm has had a lot of success of late so I have been gleaning bits and pieces of information on how this is possible. I also bought some information from a Goon logistics person and a person who fuels their POS, so take it for what its worth.

1. Goons have been modernizing. After the loss of the RA Titan because of a total failure of Goon support, they have been working to upgrade their forces. They have largely overcome recent losses of players by heavily recruiting new players with a focus on PvP and slaves for running their logistics. They seem to have completed their logistics train and actually have an increasingly effective system. They have instituted better PvP practices. The days of comedy ops in critical situations are over.

2. Their leadership has been slow, but they have improved under Darius. In part this may be due to absorbing many former RA, players who have needed to join a more casual corp. They have greatly strengthened Goons. Goons are making a concerted effort to make sure their FC's are up to the task. They still rely heavily on RA, Solar Fleet, AAA and others for cap fleet operations, but the day is coming soon when they will be able to stand on their own. As much as some may scoff at this, Goons will one day surpass RA in their capabilities. Not necessarily in skill, but in raw military power.

3. How Goons fit in with their allies. Goons rely on cap support from RA/Solar. That cap support however is top notch and highly integrated into the larger Goon fleet structure. I might go as far to say that without Goons, the RA fleet is much like MC, it is cap ship heavy without follow on support. RA, Solar, AAA do not have the ground forces to bring to a long drawn out fight over multiple time zones, Goons bring that to the table. Being a modernized force I expect them to be that much more effective.

4. Goons have a huge back end operation, with many hundreds of slaves to fuel POS, rat for minerals and do other operations that give front line troops an inexhaustable supply of materials. These people must enjoy it, I don't know where they find them.

5. On a map, Solar Fleet, RA, AAA may appear separate from Goons. In practice they are all work together as one unit with Goons providing the critical follow on force to operations.

Summary: This is not the Goonswarm that invaded BoB. Goonswarm is stronger now than they have ever been and they are on the prowl. Combined with RA, AAA, and Solar, they have the potential to sweep the drone regions and the greater Deklein area, bringing a presence to all of 0.0. In this case, Goons are actually the stronger force as they actually have the manpower to make it happen. Ironically, I would rate them above Solar Fleet in terms of their military accomplishments at this point. People mock Goons for not accomplishing things on their own. That list of people is getting shorter and shorter as they are all killed off. This is the new and improved Goonswarm. A lot of people better adjust or die. And as for Smashkill and Atlas, they have the potential to hang in there, but it will be close. If they want to survive they will have to fight with everything they have, and I mean everything. Other alliance not concerned by Goon capabilities will be dead in the next 6 months. I don't see a counter balance to this as BoB is solidifying their position and MM/Razor/Pure/Iron don't have the ability or the will to take on this force directly and will probably set them blue.
