I am after getting a laptop. It wont be used for playing EVE mostly as I have a main pc for that but I want it to at least be able to run the non premium graphics version fairly well.
A lot of the cheaper ones seem to use the Intel Media Graphics for the video card and I assuming this is not really that good. The Asus use the ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 which I am guessing is a lot better. One of the new HP machines uses the NVIDIA GeForce 7000M.
Any suggestions to what laptop video chipset I should be looking for to at least run the standard version of eve. Whats needed to run the premium graphics? Dell do a laptop with a nVidia GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB of dedicated memory. Thats just over 500 uk pounds though and a little more than I want to pay since I wont be using it all the time.

Hi, PC Specialists in the UK have a number of ranges of customisable laptops that are both well priced and contain high spec components to suit your purpose and pocket. I have a core2duo T7300 with NVidia 8600GT (512MB) that runs Eve premium fine.

The Dell Inspiron 1720 I bought a week or so ago has 3GB of memory and a Geforce 8400GS and runs 2 Eve clients as well as my desktop did.... only cost ú599 from Currys in the UK, very reasonable for what it offers

I run Eve in Premium mode at 1900x1200 at >30fps on a GeForce 8600M GT with 128MB of RAM. (This is a MacBook Pro from 2007). While this is definitely NOT a cheap laptop, it means that you can probably get away with something less than an 8600.

I would recommend a laptop that has a dedicated graphics card rather than one that uses shared graphics memory. If you can find one for a good price I'd also recommend going with one that uses a proper Nvidia or ATI mobile chipset rather than a generic or SiS graphics chipset as the off-brand ones are known to have problems running EVE. ____________________________ I break things.

I run premium graphics on my Dell laptop with a GeForce 8600M, I'm sure you could probably run premium graphics with an 8400 or 8500 and up on a laptop. Frankly, you could run the old client on some of the cheapest laptops there are, probably including the ones with integrated graphics components. That's if you run it on low settings, but even then, a dedicated graphics card is always the best way to go.

I'll second the "steer clear of Intel" note - EVE runs like a week of wet Sundays on my MacBook (Intel integrated graphics). It's quite playable on my friends MacBook Pro though. Yes, they're both running the cider-ised EVE client under Mac OS X, but both machines can run Windows XP / Vista.
I run my support alt on the MacBook while running missions on my iMac - every now and then EVE will crash the video on the MacBook and I have to restart (at which point the alt pulls a logoffski), but it's fine for logging in quickly to switch skills, fly from one station to another to haul ammo from place of purchase/manufacture to a missioning hub, etc.
My suggestion? Bite the bullet, spend the ú500 on the Dell. You'll get over the pain in your wallet after the first couple of weeks of blissfully gliding through the EVE universe. Anything less and you'll get to the point of living in fear of the EVE icon.

I have a Sony Vaio FZ38M, this has a 8400M GT, runs Eve Premium client fine. Though this is probably a little over your budget seeing its ú 800. The only other laptop I have used is a HP same price and that was ok using the 8400GS card.
Stay away from the Intel Media Graphics unless you want to stay in stations.
