Which HAC/cruiser/battlecruiser, etc. is the best tank for lvl 4 missions (blood raiders in this case)?
I run leve 4's with several of my characters and am looking for a good tank ship to warp in first to get agro...
This is a tank ship only. I tried a harpy tonight with 75/75/56/83 shield resists and a invul II running, but it did not hold up well.... (a sentry gun seemed to do the most damage, but not sure)
My drake with 68/52/60/74 seems to hold up better.....

The drake IS one of the better non-capital, non-faction tanking ships out there, even if it's not particularly well suited against blood raiders. The best blood raider tank would be on just about any medium-to-large sized T2 minmatar ship... pick whichever appeals to you more. Personally, I'm quite partial to a passive-tanked Broadsword in this particular case, or an active-tanked Claymore... but a Munnin could arguably do just as well if remote armor-repped ever so slightly.

You don't need anything to run in and grab aggro against Blood Raiders, they can't hit you anyway if you stay far enough away + Kill the BS first and anything else doesn't scratch you, even if you're sitting in some shield tanked ship.

My damnation have reists 83/93/87/88 and 32.7k armor hp, signature 265 and effective hp is around 290.000, but in gang with armor links its 37,6k armor and effective hp is at 375.000 (resists 85/94/89/89 and (ofc both without any armor hp hardwires and no slave implants).

LOL indeed. Im currently doing worlds collide lvl 4 in a drake, serpentis half, and i have only 2.4 mil skill points, and i have no problem what so ever. I got 473 serpentins tank with sensor booster and i have no problem what so ever. When im gonna do guristas half i'll have 619 guristas tank with ECCM scanning array. It'll be even easier to tank.
So no point for this thread !

Drop the ECCM. It doesn't work against rats.

The best tank in the game, if cost isn't an issue is the vulture, close contender is the minny HIC.

Edited by: Fist1 on 03/06/2008 16:13:28 I think the best PVE tank = nighthawk. CNR cruise damage, 500+ passive omni tank, cost much less than golem or CNR. unless you start adding faction gear lol

No love for the Dominix? With a pure tank setup (dual LARII, 5 specific hardeners) it is more than capable of taking complete aggro from a lvl IV blood and doing decent damage at the same time......

He did ask for the best tank, not a good tank. ;) I fly the Dominix and tbh it has a horrible tank compared to a number of ships.

..I tend to love my Abaddon. Yah my old Caldari alt tanked nice in a Drake, and I could jump into a command ship or a hac for higher resists (overall).. doesn't mean they tank better tho.

+1 for abiddon. Can do dual LARs, 4x hardeners, and the works. Just lacking a tad bit of cap works fine if you have a second damagedealer, however.

take the large shield extenders off and try to tank it with some armor plates
and paladin works great for level 4s against bloods, kill everything before it gets in close enough to hit you. (unless they are the tracking disruptor kind, they make me sad )

Ubertank ships are the Nighthawk and Vulture. Both suffer from the same problem, tho: Given that you fit the strongest Tank, you barely do any damage anymore.
It is easy to get 94% resist on 2 damage types and thus, even Angel Extravaganca L4 Bonus Stage is peanuts, even with the slightly weaker passive tank (just takes long because of the low damage output).
The best missionrunning team i've seen so far was a Vulture (even better tank than the nighty, but even less DPS) as tank, with a Marauder as damage dealer. This *****s L4's really fast.
Passive Tank should be prefered in L4 and L5, due to neutralizer towers and NOS'ing enemies. Its nice to not have to look at your cap level at all :)
Oh, and i fly about 70% of the available L5 in a Nighthawk. Try that in a Battleship (dont know if it works with a Marauder) :)

in level 4s you are better off with 2 marauders or something than using a vulture, kill the stuff fast as you can, don't be a damage sponge! okay, well one of em should have a somewhat decent tank, even if it only lasts a few minutes.
level 5s, well be a capless damage sponge, thats damn useful (and rather stupid game mechanic choices imo)

Well, in L4 the NH/Vulture does not only serve as maintank, but also gets rid of the gazillion frigs that spawn all the time :) This is why we prefer 1NH/V + 1 Marauder.
As i often fly missions alone, i still prefer the NH. Takes longer, but minimizes the Risk of ship loss. And even if, for the price of an Marauder i get 2-3 fully T2 fitted Nighthawks ;)
Its probably more a matter of taste once you use the high-end ships.

My drones usually take out the frigates in the time it takes me to take down the battleships.
and a turret bs will bbq frigates at range. or a kronos/paladin at close range 99% webs ftw!

Passive tanked drake should get the job done well enough. Raven with a heavy cap booster + 2x heavy Nos is a better option but it takes perfect fitting skills to pull off.
