So, I've been a member of a merc corp for about a year now. Before that I was a member of Privateers, but since it got nerfed I realised I had to move on. So, I joined an empire merc corp, as that's what I love in eve.
Guess what happened? They bargained for 0.0 ratting rights, and now are obligated to stay out there, doing fleet warfare, fighting other people's battles.
Also, I'm finding it harder and harder to make time for eve as I get older. Some weeks I may play 4 hours a day, every day, yet others I may be absent for a week or so. And when I do play I'm told I can't go in with dangerous setups as if my K:D ratio drops then I look bad for the corp.
So what's the plan?
I'm making my own corp, for my alt and I. I will pay for 1 war against a large alliance per week when I'm active, in empire, and also sign up the corp for FW if I'm only playing for a day or so. This way I get PVP whenever I want, I can play as ridiculously as I want, I can do FW, I keep all the loot, and I will probably get MUCH more solo PvP, as honestly, who sets up a roaming gang for a 2 man corp?
I'm so excited.

Privateers was the best thing to happen to eve. To bad it got canned :-(
FW should hopefully fix that. Hopefully.

I salute you.
We have about 10 "real" members in STORM. We like it that way and that's the way it's going to stay. Everybody's a director and free to come and go according to his own wishes. Because we are selective regarding members, we don't have to be burdened with lots of rules. We are Eve's premier retirement home and digging every minute of it.
I'm sure you will have a great time.

Yeah but consider decking large corporations instead of large alliances, it's much more economical, and they're less likely to have formal rules against whining and crying when you kill them. Even a small corp can be "bigger" in a particular constellation or region than a huge alliance that's spread out all over the place.

Would it cost more for me to dec an alliance than a corp, then?

EDIT: Decking Corps is cheaper.
He is saying that, in the particular region you decide to hang out in, a corp may have a more concentrated presence then an alliance. An alliance can more easliy spread out over many regions and you not even know where to look.

Alliance war fees are 50mil/week, corp war fees are 2mil/week afaik. These stack, so if theres already 1 war on the corp/alliance, its 100mil // 4mil, if theres 2 its 150mil // 6mil, and so on.
GL with the personal corp pvp stuff!

Yeh, I understand that, but say that corp was in an alliance too, would it cost me more to dec an alliance, or are corp and alliance dec fees similar?

You cannot war-deck a corp that's in an alliance. This is the main reason most alliances exist -- to protect carebears.
You can however war-deck individual factional warfare corps. This could be fun, there may be some big ones.

Perfect example of someone not liking EVE game mechanics fully and adapting instead of whining.
Oh and if you kill a few of a corps members, they will form up 5+, 10+ gangs to come kill you, so you gotta be on yer toes and willing to shrug off a few ships/change tactics a lot.
Good luck mate, sounds fun.
