I've been reading through the ship setups, but I'm undecided between the 3 battleships. Anyone have advice? I thought about the raven, but I don't have much sp in missile operation, and the majority of my SP is in gunnery. Post a setup too if you'd like.

If you've got good missile skills (you don't), you can use the Phoon or Raven. This is preferred. Otherwise, use the Maelstrom unless you have *really* crappy shield skills. You can use a Tempest until your shield skills get up to par (about a week).

To be short, one doesn't. If you're serious about mission running, consider choosing another race/ship.

Maelstrom (from memory...)
H: 8x 1400mm Artys w/ EMP S M: AB, XL C5-L Shield Booster, Invuln 2, EM Hardener, SBA, Cap Booster w/ 800s L: 3x Gyro 2s, PDU 2, DC2 Rigs: 2x Core Cap Sa***uard, 1x Anti-Therm Screen
Chews through missions very fast. Only ever has problems when there are lots of close range rats - for those, keep a set of 800mms handy. Most of the time, I clear the field before I have to use the cap booster.

I used to agree with that, until I started seriously using a sentry domi and got my Raven skills up.
No, the Mael is quite slow compared to those two (roughly 2x the time for the same mission, even with superior skills).

The only minmatar ship with potential for really good missioning is the phoon, but that requires a lot of SP. (T2 Sentry drones, T2 arties, T2 cruise missiles). The others can of course finish them fine, but nowhere near as fast as the really good ships like Laserboats and CNR/Golem. And EMP is a HORRIBLE ammo for anything except EoM.

the maelstrom will do them safely, but will do them slowly
i'm only at caldari battleship III currently, and i'm already faster in a raven. and i have some stupid amounts of points in gunnery AND was using implants for gun damage
it's just the way it is.

I used to run missions in a Mael and I thought they went pretty quickly. Then I trained Amarr and do them twice as fast now. The only missions i like Minmatar for now are Angel ones, and for those I use a torp Phoon. And I found out I like Amarr a lot more for PvP also when it comes to the larger ships. I still love Minmatar frigs though (except the interceptors. I prefer the amarr ones).

Blood Raiders or Sanshas, EoM use amarr ships but cladari wepons and shield tank. They are like guristas in amarr ships that drop blood raider loot.

The best Minmatar ships for missions, in my opinion, are Vargur, Sleipnir, and Typhoon. All three are capable of running L4 missions solo, although the Typhoon is light on dps and will therefore run them more slowly.

Funny, I could have swore the op asked for a minmatar ship. Oh wait, he did.
And obviously he has the SP to fly a Vargur. Thats why he doesnt know how to fit a ratting BS...
Come on people, read the ******* topic before you settle into your dogmatic niche.

He seemed pretty darn open to other suggestions. He mentioned the raven in his OP. Oh wait, let's troll anyway.

So as the OP has his answer - if you must use a minnie BS use a Typhoon with loadsa SPs, otherwise a Mael (but get a Raven!) can I hijack the thread a bit? Expanding to the question in the title rather than in the OP, what other minnie ships are good - is a Vargur so much better that it is worth the cost (or a sleipnir) and if so what sort of fittings?
Thanks
And before anyone starts *****ing, I have plenty of SPs, I'm just not very skilled!

The Vargur's alright in the missions that start off close and stay that way - but you'll be hurting in missions that you have to chase people down, or they start a ways out. Not being able to fit Arties to the Vargur puts a real damp on its usefulness for missions.
I can't comment on the Sleip in missions.

i use a typhoon
high 4 x cruise missilse(two with paradise and two with wrath) 4 x duel 425mm(ammo after mission)
med 4 tech II cap rechager
low 2 x tech II large armor reppers 4 x mission spec hardners 1 x tech II cap relay
rig 3 x ccc rig
drones: mix after personal taste
i like this setup becouse i can tank a dicent amount of dmg and just let the hardners and the reppers run forever =)

Actually the Vargur as mentioned sucks unless everything is and stays close. Just like all the other gun based minnie BS.
The Sleipnir, while having a hilarious tank especially if pimped, has even worse dps than the gun BS when using arties, and using ACs is more or less out of the question due to the time lost chasing down stuff.
The phoon otoh is the only ship that when properly fitted can deliver enough effective dps to be considered good in missions.

this unless you got max skills...then you can squeeze small artys on there(i think)
PS: you will need inplants and a RCU T2 for that Playing minmatar is "like going down a flight of stairs in a office chair firing an Uzi". |
