Edited by: Jojo Rumbles on 03/06/2008 22:19:05 Edited by: Jojo Rumbles on 03/06/2008 22:18:08 So yeah. Every other game I've played has a gentle slope of a learning curve except EvE.
In every other game, I can usually get the general gameplay down within about an hour or two. In EvE I still have no clue how to play and it's already been almost 3 months. I'm still getting owned by anything and everything.
Getting blown up every other turn isn't fun. Spending weeks and weeks of reading "Newbie Guides" and getting absolutely nowhere is not fun. Pitting newbies against vet players is like forcing a middle school football team to play against the Dallas Cowboys. That's just not fun.
Sorry CCP. I gave you guys a shot and have been met with only disapointment. EvE is a fustraiting and confusing game with a learning curve so steep that newbies spend months trying to figure out just what the heck is going on.
(and no you can't have my stuff. I've lost everything already).

If you get blown up so much it means you are in lowsec, 0.0 or in a war decced corp. All 3 are easy to avoid. Abstraction and Transcendence: Nature, Shintai, and Geometry |

We all can feel your pain ;).
Anyways, before you leave, you might want to join a player corporation. With the right corp, you'll get to know some nice people and they will show you the ropes and offer help when needed. It's a MMO, afterall.

I'm sorry but I have to agree. It does take a long time to know all about one branch (ie. combat, industry, trade), but to get the general basics without getting blown up all the time? I've lost 4 ships (I stick to low and highsec) in the year I've been playing and I go in lowsec all the time, I'm just smart about it.
You must be engaging in battles you shouldn't be or trying to haul in places you shouldn't be going without help or checking the area out first.
If you do happen to keep playing, please get in a corp that is willing to help you out. It really shouldn't take that long to learn the basics of the game.

Not fun for Dallas. The kids would wipe the field with the Cowboys.

I have to agree with that picture. Funny, but true. Eventually after playing 3 months I said "You know what? I'm pushing myself through this game and not having any fun at all. Screw this."

Well, everyone likes different things. This game is supremely awesome to me because of the complexity in the game. Other games just bore me and I end up not playing them anymore after a couple months. This game I just can't get enough of. -Xonox Pulsar Combat Supplies, Director of Production and POS |

If you want a much easier learning curve, roll through Heimatar region during Australian prime time (ie: hour before or the hour after daily maintenance) and look for me. I'm doing PvE (running missions) at the moment - can't get much softer than that as far as learning curve goes.

find some people you can have some fun with. its not the gameplay here that keeps me here, its the way players interact with other players. or is that the game play

well, your losses can't be that great if you're that young so what are you complaining about?
A recent loss of mine would have driven many players completely frothing at the mouth crazy I imagine but you don't see me getting my knickers in a twist do you? If EVE isn't the game for you then just admit it, don't try to blame anything if you're just not interested in it.

I have one piece of advice, get yourself into a decent corp. Look for an academy corp such as EVE University and they'll help you through the early times. I started 4.5 years ago and managed to get hooked up with a really good corp within days and I'm still here.
No EVE isn't for everyone, and it has a very steep learning curve, but with the right people at your side, you'd be surprised how much fun there is to be had.
If you haven't already thrown in the towel, and you can't find an academy to take you on, then drop me a EVE-Mail in game and I'll help you as much as I can.
Regards,
Gil

I'm sorry but that graph really makes no sense. I understand the joke trying to be made but according to that, your gaming skill reaches levels far greater than the 3 other games in a shorter period of time. If that were accurate in the joke it's trying to illustrate, EVE would be a straight line on the horizontal axis.

Edited by: P''uck on 05/06/2008 18:12:19 Understanding what's going on is only a very small (and rather useles) part of Eve.
The bigger part is blowing up spaceships. It doesnt really matter if they are your own or those of your opponents. they all make the same pretty explosions of light.
Too bad when you dont have anything left do blow up, tho. Rookie ships just dont cut it imho.
