Yeah, debates between Labour and Tory do tend to degenerate into mud slinging contests. It's like they're asking us to choose between the lesser of two evils at the next election.

Other parties are available.
Yeah, I voted Lib Dem at the last election. I knew full well they weren't going to win in my constituency, but I just couldn't bring myself to vote for Tory or Labour.
However at the NEXT election, I don't think I can afford to throw my vote away like that. I HAVE to vote Tory because the thought of Labour getting another term terrifies me. Doesn't mean I particularly like the Tories though.

Interesting. How can someone get more votes than expected? Surely if a majority of people vote for them, then lots of people know they have votes, so it could hardly be called unexpected. __________________________

Its the same in many countries. When the economy is good someone or something gets credit. When its bad its the leader's fault. I remember hearing people complain about the stimulus program and then later complain that their checks aren't coming fast enough to pay off the massive credit card bills they've racked up or other expenditures they couldn't afford in the first place. Go figure.
It would be nice if they took some responsibility for themselves.
You could argue that's one of the primary functions of a leader. To take the blame when the **** hits the fan, even if they weren't personally at fault. Anyway, the PM does have some measure of influence in the economy, simply by setting tax levels and interest rates. __________________________
