CCP, You guys came up with a great game. Loads of different gamemechanics which all are top notch. But now the guys who are responsible for the commercial site of things seem to have too much influence.
The beauty of eve was always that it's player driven. Members are a scarse commodity for a corp or an alliance, they will have their recruiters aggresivly pursue new players. Introducing some new gamemechanic with the sole purpose of trying to make peeps stick around longer in your game is always a very very bad idea. The mechanics are there.. and they are great, I love them.. but can't you see that by artificaly presenting something you're proud of (the pvp combat mechanics) to new players, you're raping the whole concept?
I seriously think that the idealism of eve gamedesign should never be tainted by commercial arguments. It's passion that brought you this far. It's the pursuit of commercial gain that will destroy it.

You need standings to join the militias, so its easier to just a pre-existing corp who have standings.
Thats what I intend to do with any alts or friends who dont have the standings.
You could even create a corp for each faction, and jump around each without a care in the world. _________________________

I'm kinda hoping this will help get rid of some of these "corps" who do nothing but recruit and CEO's live off their taxes. Now people can join FW and pew pew without "following orders"

Disagree.
I think this acts as another good route for new players to try PVP, I don't think the sole reason is commercial.
The aim is to bring more depth of gameplay to EVE, which can only be a good thing. Bear in mind this is as much aimed at some of the older veterans as it is the new guys.

Errr..what?
Faction warfare will have no effect whatsoever on 90%+ of the game population. You are by no means required to participate.
As I see it faction warfare has been in the cards ever since they dismantled the storyline/-event thing leaving all roleplayers out in the cold (and yes, ones imagination can be a cold place). With the promised (better make good on them *grrr*) additions of rewarding militia rank down the line, we get to use the RPG part of MMORPG and actually benefit from it. As it is now, with the RPG taking a backseat, Eve is just a chat interface, massively violent and pretty but a chat interface nonetheless (yes, this will get some heat)
PvP has always been available in low-sec to those thus inclined, faction war just expands on this by removing the security hit for militia on militia action. Low-sec areas will see an influx of militia personnel that will hopefully give the ridiculous T2 ship-gatecamping-hauler popping pirate wannabes a reason to fight or flee.
Commercial gain has never destroyed anything, its what people do with the gains that ruin stuff. CCP has so far been dumping a lot of cash into hardware to alleviate some of the lag-features increasing enjoyment of the game for for all.
Got to love a morning rant ..

Ever heard of a blob? I predict that gatecamps will greatly increase just to kill militias.

Heh someone's not even tried FW - no-one will be flying mission fitted ships for long. The entire notion of FW is PvP, not PvE. ___ "If you can't debate using logic & fact, and at least recognise other people's point of view, don't waste time posting on forums. You dont need a mission fitted ship.
They'll be plenty of other people with the self same idea - goons (or anyone else for that matter) are in for a shock if they think they'll be the only 'l33t' pvpers roaming around low sec when FW is released.

in future it might even bear standing to get into some PVP corps like your rank to do with it so they requires less enegry to train you since you already have the basic ideas
FW can also be a training tool for corps as there will always be fights around
and unlike the test server people wont be hot dropping captial ships or mothership anytime soon
just as it is that you will always find a fight make the mechanic even better
just cast your mind to your last roaming gang PVP group ..... did you find many fight in which they were willing to fight back if you awnser is yes we found many >>>>groups<<<< of people willing to fight us with out running away then you dont need FW

Disagree. FW provides a nudge in the right direction towards PvP. FW will still be largely if not entirely player driven.
0.0 is extremely harsh and FW is meant as a stepping stone or 0.0-lite for people to get into. The game mechanics and gameplay is pretty much 95% the same as pre-FW so I don't see months of new content, just a different area in the sandbox where the trucks aren't as big :)

FW, under the current vision, will go the way of COSMOS: A good idea that was simply never followed up on. Dropped down and left to languish because the only people making use of it were the farmers in the fixed plexes raking in 2+b a day. They fixed that exploit and now the COSMOS installation constallations are... dead.

Faction Warfare exists because at the moment in empire and low sec there is no real reason to fight other than the pure joy of fighting. Thats doesn't fit with alot of people, faction warfare gives people the reason in a controlled enviroment. Nobody is forcing anyone to faction warfare.
So as you can see, I don't agree with you. at. all.

There's people in Cosmos constellations. Not huge amounts, but you'll find other people in the plexes every time
