Edited by: Tefkros on 06/06/2008 08:23:43 I have observed an increasingly popular trend lately, and I'd like your opinions on the dilemma that this causes.
Two nights ago, I was doing nothing in particular, but suddently an alliance mate reports a gatecamp in a nearby system, 2 Megathrons, a Thorax and a Blackbird. "Sweet, nothing my Huginn and my mate's Myrmidon can't handle", so I take the Huginn and another alliancemate in a Deimos and head in. I jump in, see if they agress me, and they do. They had neutralizers so I had the other 2 pilots to wait for me to play with them and exhaust their cap, since both in my gang were too vulnerable and I was barely managing to hold a point and burst the MWD while dancing aroung trying to dictate range. To cut the story short, at some point only 1 Megathron and the Thorax remain at gate, and I call in my support since by that time they had killed my drones and the Mega was remote repping the Thorax(way to go, waste more of your cap). All in all a fair fight, the Thorax went down, but...
... the Megathron, once pointed, decided to deagress. In deep structure, he jumped into HIGH SEC, where he, of course, got greeted by Concord. After jumping to pick up his loot, he was like "I'd rather suicide than give you a killmail". Which sounds mentally challenged (edited), given it was a fair fight, no blobs, just different tactics and patience.
That's the second or third time this has happened in recent memory, so I wonder about the ethics of posting "fake" killmails for such cases (much like the fake killmails for self-destructing carriers). So far we never post such killmails, but I wonder what everyone thinks on the subject. Because one day the smack may get too much...

fake the killmail
and/or just laugh at him.
heh one of our guys jumped into highsec once, as he was in a dual plate damnation and well, concord will kill you a lot faster than the average anti pie squad.
and I did it once, thought I was clicking warp to on another gate

Please read again and comprehend the words "...In deep structure...". When Condord did 2% of the damage, some might claim that they damn well killed it. Just like when sentries or rats were stealing killmails and the victim refused to give them to you. If you opinion stays the same, fine, I'm just asking anyway.

I personally don't do it, but I wouldn't mind someone writing up a fake KM (or editing the real KM if the guy actually posted it on his KB, which he should) to include involved people in. A kill is a kill, and it's not like you mega-blobbed them or something.
Nicely done, btw. Did you at least get the Mega loot?

Yes it's popular.
Yes it's prevalent.
Yes, no matter the cost, Eve players will find new ways of being spiteful for no gain to themselves.

Im totally against those who jump into hi sec once they realise they are dead. I believe if you are going to die you failed at either killing them or scouting theyre blob.

There are no ethics, you do what you want to do. Wether the other side likes it or not. So did he, in this game people do things mostly to **** people off just for the fun of it, it seems he succeeded.

Thanks:) Yeah we got the loot, no big deal. In any case if we were always after the killmail, we'd never fly logistics. So as far as I'm concerned, they can jump into highsec all they like :)

Killmail ethics-wise:
- on your own kb, you do whatever you like, it's not like it's anyone else's bloody business
- I would recommend that whatever you do on your kbs, in order to avoid getting a reputation as cheats, 1) you do it consistently (fake all such cases, including your own if they by accident happen, or none) and 2) if your kb is public, openly (post a note saying that you do this, just in case someone else syncs with your board)
- on a shared or a widely synced kb, I would stick to official mails only, otherwise it becomes a huge mess

Why would you post a fake KM if you were "looking for a gf, not a km". Seems the OP got his good fight, won the battle, and should be happy with that.
You either get a killmail from CCP or you shouldnt be posting one if you want any credibility.

I've done it, within the last couple weeks actually. The situation was a bit different thought. We had what we thought were a few easy targets and were moving in to take them out. Halfway to highsec gate we find out our BS on the gate was going down and I dropped out of warp in my cane to be greeted by 7 or 8 ships, with the rest of our gang warping out, I was unlucky and got scrammed and webbed. Since I didn't have an aggression timer I figured WTF an jumped into a .7 and started slow boating back to the gate. My hope was that those on the other side would assume I had agro and got concorded since I could easily have tanked the faction police back to the gate. Unfortunately for me the guy in the Huginn didn't fall for it and added his support to the fuzz and I got sploded.
Gotta gamble sometimes, right?

Funny story.
If a CONCORD bug pops you, you'd better PRAY LIKE HELL that it is on CCP's Long Standing Acknowledged Bugs That They Refuse To Fix list.
If the CONCORD bug that gets you isn't on this list, well, you know the drill... endless drivel being spewed from Lead GM about why CCP knows you are a liar and why you should die in a fire while they sit around eating Zoom Ice Lollies.

I'd just post the killmail with the modules that dropped, and then link his chat in the comment sections. Proof enough to me. Sounds like he wouldn't be PvP enough to send you the KM. Some people need to man up (no insult intended ladies) and fight it out. I mean you're still losing a ship. Perception is reality I guess.

funny ****, had a fight the other day, harbinger gets global in low sec, in the fight i warp out when he's in structure and no one hits him after i warp and then in 10% structure harbinger warps to station and gets popped by sentries, i still got the KM.
I've also been caught on a hi sec gate once by 3 BCs, had to jump thru, slowboat to gate, jump in and then find it clear.

well apparently he is a sore loser. i think its a bit pathetic.
on the other hand lets assume this had been a gate to lowsec he would have deagressed, jumped through and subsequently get killed by the gate guns before he warps off. in that situation you wouldn't be on the km either because jumping through the gate somehow make the km system forget their were people on the other side.
so from that point while you won the fight and he is a jerk you really shouldn't fake the km imo. can always lead to a bad reputation and its imo not worth it. you killed him and the both of you know. maybe the fact he can't handle it is a consolation.

Since Killmail are only good for killboards, and killboards are not part of eve-online game. Also it is possible to create fake killmails so do whatever you want with your Killmails...
Few peoples will care because it's good only for you e-|>enis and there is no way to know if they are legit or not...

Basically it just comes down to that it would be nice if damage wasn't forgotten (for km purposes) the moment someone jumps through a gate. If damage record stuck around, you'd still be on the km and the problem is solved.
It's not a big issue, since by and large there aren't that many people who can do it, and then only in smaller ships. But sure, that seems like a good solution. I think we've lost 2 pirate flagged faction BS killmails to highsec jump outs in the past and honestly they're both dead and buried, so would be appropriate for the km to appear.
Now for the partial sidetrack... same deal for self destruct. Have SD follow the same km rules, not just magically forget everyone just because you SD'd. When you SD if no one else has shot you, no killmail. If anyone else has damage on you, top human gets the killmail. Just like happens when NPCs kill you.

A decade ago, geeks were supposed to be smart. I already said I don't post such killmails and I was just asking what everyone else does.
Now I guess I'll change the question to...
"How many of you are one-dimensional idiots that find pleasure in your life by calling "whine" on everything? "
I'll check back on Monday, now I'm off to the beach.
