It would result in people queueing up skills and not logging on.

Edited by: Elric Ward on 09/05/2004 02:28:12 Well either way your only skilling up while your account is active so its actually to the benifit everyone to do it. Cuts lag if the player is not taking up banwidth and he/she is still paying for the game.

Elric, perhaps I misunderstand what you wrote there, but it seems like you're under the impression that characters cannot gain skill points while the player is not connected.
This is distinctly not the case. Skills continue to train regardless of whether the player is online.

And I was talking about this post mainly, yea its no big deal if they didnt log in CCP is still getting money for the account and the player is still getting his skills while using less server resources =)And yes I know the skill points are always training if you have one active even though your not in game.

Actually it's a fantastic idea, I don't see why more people aren't supporting this already, it would help alot, especially when you want to learn lots of lots of level '0' skills that you just bought to level 1, and further more training specific ones to 2 and 3 in the order of priority for yourself, yes it would help plenty. I don't see what the person saying 'they wouldn't log on' was getting at, what's so great about people logging on for a few seconds to switch skills anyway? If they don't plan to play for a while and just train, then they don't plan to play, regardless of whether or not queued skills are available.

I do 100% support this. When people go away and can't get online, they are still paying for the game, so why can't they have there charcs training ---------------------------

I thought of the same thing but I scrapped it because PKers would benefit from it more than anyone else. It'll be sp much easier for them to make a super alt with this.

rightly said there rightly said. Reduce lag and so forth. Would mean that everyone thats online, aint there just using up bandwidth for skill training. If bandwidth and server space was taken up by actually active players, instead of players in dock training.. would it not be better for everyone?

Edited by: Oblivious Vox on 13/05/2004 14:43:00 I'd also like a feature making it possible to queue up a few skills.
The reason we do not have this, or the ability to change skills through the website, I assume is because CCP wants us to login regularly. Or maybe they just have stuff to do with higher priorities.
Maybe we could have a time limit on the queue though, so that you could only queue skills taking a maximum of 12 or so hours to train. This way it would be easier to train those annoying 4 to 6 hour skills. At least I prefer to sleep longer than that, and my employer will probably start asking questions if I cut my days much shorter.
I guess that's a bit tricky to implement though, so it's probably just easier to leave it as it is and let us players realize that the world will continue to exist even if we once in a while miss a few hours of training.

Edited by: X'Alor on 08/06/2004 23:58:17 Sounds like bunch of people that spend too much time on ebay build characters to strictly sell and make a buck
If you can't log on for 5 minutes to change your training...........do something else and don't even bother with Eve.
same topic, new thread. stiii the absolute worst idea ever proposed on any idea forum.
people farm characters as it is to sell on ebay and this could cause people to not log in for monthes.
at the point i'm at, if i qued (past tense) 3 skills to train, i would not have to log for almost 3 monthes to check it.
WTF is that.
just to log on 3 monthes from now and say......i got these skills. que
this is soley an idea based around "farming a character" and not "playing a character"
"go go ebay gadget farming character sales"
same idea, new thread, but still the stupidest idea proposed on eve ever.
CCP if there is one thing you DON'T do....it's this, but then again prolly already agree.
this idea is about as cool as people who create 5 different accounts to massive solo strip mine on five seperate puters to sell the isk on ebay.
wish the mods would lock this idea every time it comes up in forums

The Devs have already stated that they are completely against this form of idea.
While I agree with the Devs, I would like a web interface to be able to train, as sometimes you just cant get to a computer with the game on it. ------------------------------------------------

I think it is a good idea. It has been raised in this forum, however, many times before. I have never heard that the Devs object to the idea. It is true that the Devs would have to have been pretty blind not to have seen this suggestion the number of times it has been raised. So perhaps it is true that the Devs don't like this idea.

Edited by: Ishcar on 10/06/2004 02:16:04 Frankly I believe that having a primary skill to learn (like it is now) and a Secondary skill (a fall over skill to learn should you complete the first on) allows a player to be learning smaller skills over night or during work hours (some people work) then fall over to a skill which will take a longer period of time to learn.
I can see 3 positive things happening from this. 1) Interuptions to the eve service or ISP's service will be minimised from the eve experience esp if a skill is geared of for completion at the end of the enticipated dt or if you were unaware of the impending/approaching service interuption. 2) Under the current system there will always be a few seconds, minutes, hours, days of unproductive skill learning time due to users not continuingly watching the clock for skill changes. 3) This will actually reduce income loss for CCP due to an time compensation ie play-days lost due to unforceen extended interuptions.
Despite this as it currently stands some players have a distinct advantage due to having long skills training at the time, most players are disadvantanged esp. new players training smaller skills. We want to keep the eve-experience alive for these new players so that they will not churn.
In short, restrictions can be placed so that only 2 skills are queued a primary skill and a secondary skill - we could even tighten the restriction so that you cant train the same skill as primary and secondary. I believe that this would address many of the concerns that both CCP and players have while benefiting all players.
It requires only a small rewrite in the skill learning code. ie. when skill_pri is complete update level skill_pri then cp skill_sec to skill_pri and count...
And adding a train primary / train secondary to the right click menu on the character sheet skills.
No alt chars need to be allowed to be learning skills at the same time although learning a primary skill on one char then having the secondary skill to learn be on the alt char is a little more complex but could be an option.
What does everyone think of what I have proposed? instead of some of the open ended suggested options already on the thread.
