Just about to start doing Level 4 missions, decided to upgrade the Typhoon to a Maelstrom.
It states the Maelstrom gets ō7.5% shield boost amount per level.ö
Is it safe to assume that I ONLY get this bonus if a put a shield booster module on the ship???? The ship has 8000 shield capacity. It doesnĘt boost that correct?
(Sorry if this is a stupid question. I have a few more too)

So, what exactly does that shield booster do when I turn it on???

I am a passive shield boost type. Can I make this work? Thoughts?

ąand hey, Buddha can be pretty mean too. I hear he flies a mean Vagabond!!! Blows through shields like a smiling fat statue should!!!!

Here is what I run on my Typhooną.
Low Slots-
Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Shield Power Relay II Power Diagnostic System II Ballistic Control System II
Med Slots-
Invulnerability Field II Shield Hardener II (Kinetic Usually) **Swap Out for Missions** Shield Hardener II (Thermal Usually) **Swap Out for Missions** Large Shield Extender II
High Slots-
4 Guns and 4 Missiles
Rigs-
Core Defence Field Purger I Core Defence Field Purger I Core Defence Field Purger I
ItĘs basically the Passive Phoon from Battleclinic.com
I am using a laptop so ōclick-ageö can be an issue. The above setup is simple- While warping iną I hit (activate) the Invul, and 2 Hardeners and I am good to go. All the rest is passive, so I can focus on offense and acquiring new targets.
I am wondering how to do a similar setup with the Maelstrom and still get the benefit of the 7.5% shield boost amount per level too???????
Thoughts???? (..other than get a mouse or new computer)

I have a few thoughts on variations of themą and more questions, but that will have to be later.
Speaking of skillsą.
What skills should I have (and to what level) to fly this ship properly????
Lets start with the defensive ones first (Skills to fit my med and low slot mods)
Thoughts?
And yes, I bought this ship without having any idea how to fly it. Did the same with the Typhoon and I am having a blast in it.
ItĘs a game and itĘs fun to try new stuffą. even when I get blowĘd up!!!!!
Good news isą I have the ISK, so I am gonna spend it.

Thanks everyone.
I am putting together a "frankenstein" of the above suggestions, but....
It seems cap is always a problem. Should I do a cap recharger and a cap extender battery type thing (Can't remember what it's called but it gives you more total cap)??? And what rigs gives me the best cap stability???
Also, is there a cap mod that uses charges (kinds like ammo, but it gives you more cap). If so, what are they and how do they work?

Also, this ship is going to be used as a "primary" ship. I run two accounts. My other ship is a Domi (with crazy drone skills) taking out all the small stuff while my primary hits the big stuff.
Just thought i would throw that in.

Could I lose one of the Gyros and add a Power Diagnostic System II? I am thinking a little better defense (recharge) and cap?? Thoughts on that?
Also, I like the "1200 less reload idea". Nice. 
So, overall, a better ship for level 4 missions than my Typhoon????
Oh... are the rigs important????
