In 16 days from now, on the 24th of June 2008, I will be Celebrating 5 years of playing EVE, I was addicted to EVE from day 1, Even after this much time i still feel EVE has a lot to offer, and i try to play as much if not more than i always have done, now the reason i write this is because i'm wondering who else is approaching 5 years or more, Feel free to reply with your Comments

I don't really if bragging about playing for 5 years all the time is a good thing to brag about. That means you spend the majority of 5 years inside an MMO. Shouldn't you be doing other things with your life?

Grats! I'm coming up on my one year mark myself and I have to say the longer I play the more I find there is to do, see, explore, mine, shoot, whatever.
I must admit I took a break for a couple of months but after experiencing freedom in Eve I just couldn't get into the level/class/you-can-only-do-what-the-dev-gods-have-ordained-is-OK mindset of other games.

Correct :) i have the Full support of My wife and i have no kids, i go to work like anybody else and i Enjoy Playing Eve :) what more do i need from Life

Shouldn't you STFU and go away troll? 5 years in EVE is 5 Years in EVE... does not mean he played all the time, just means that he stayed with the game for 5 years, and tried to contribute to the common experience. Go the F.. away.

I wasn't aware there was an officially approved template for how people should spend their time. I'm in a similar position with my fifth year coming up and I've enjoyed most of the time I've spent in Eve.

No you should devote a part of your life to entertaining yourself. After all life's short and you don't want to spend all of it in an endless real life grind.

I've started playing EvE form the beta and i'm still here wandering in the cold space  Yes i took my breaks, but i have always an eye on what happens in EvE

Also the person everyone is flaming still shows a ! for a portrait, so he/she probably still has concepts of strange things like 'end-game' and 'having to play 12 hours a day to keep up with my friends' and 'max level' and other various things that really don't have any place in Eve.
With that in mind his comment is perfectly justified, though misguided and ultimately incorrect.

I have played over 5 years, and have only slept or attended to my personal hygene during downtimes.
On patch days I try to spend a couple of hours with the kids - no point wasting all that time.*
*unless sisi is up, then I'll be there instead.

Same here, 5 years in august I believe :)
Oh well, minus the 11 months break I did..
And yes, wife, kid, work... test server ^^...
It's not an addiction anymore, it has become a way of life I guess.

Yeah I have taken 2 breaks in my 5+ years playing eve, but your right it kind of gets to be a way of life.. 
Wake up, log into eve and check stuff, sell orders/buy orders then get ready for RL job, check Eve or Corp related forums while at work coz I am bored. Come home, walk in the door, turn PC on and log into eve, say hi to the wife and then do my 2nd job which is in eve to earn some isk, clock off that and then its time to patrol space looking for ppl to blow up..
Ahh.. life in eve......

Hitting that 5 year mark does seem kind of surreal. You look back at crap that went on and you have to wonder, "I was doing that?!?" That is if you are unlucky enough to still be able to remember that far back. (I think I can!!!)

Jeez this game has stayed with me for a bit... that means.. I'm about to turn 19 in june so I was ... i just turned 14 when I started? jeeeezzzzz.
Well CCP. You can thank my friend who showed me this game with 50 billion isk that we can split... if you want, I mean the content upgrades have been great the last 5 years but..

I think we can open a new topic to look back at all the vintage crap we've been doing in our EVE "career"...
- Multi-MWD's for ultimate speed :)
- Cruise missiles on Kestrels
- 60+ round trips deep into 0.0 with haulers filled to the brim with minerals
- Trying to set-up and maintaining alliances without ingame support...
