Ok just got shiney new bs the other day
and lost it to a 0.0 spawn today
Now i love this game but
Why oh why when you get hit by a missile from behind does it slow down your ship - making it practically impossible to go to warp? I think you may have guessed what happened!!
Oh and are defender missiles borked as well as i think they were slowing me down everytime they were fired plus they were about as much use as throwing chocolate buttons at a rotweiler.
Anyway lets hear what you think
Millennium is Recruiting..... do you want to know more?

I usually rate my ship on marks out of ten when it goes into a spin when light missiles hit it.

Absolutly right mate missiles are a joke the way they slow ships down and throw them around, dont know how many ships I have lost to this crap.
It's amazing a large hybrid does nothing...a round the size of a bathtub weighing about 1 ton or so hitting something at super-sonic speed does nothing but some armor damage while a missile 2 feet long moving at a snails pace bounces ships weighing 100s of thousands of tons spinning around like toys.
FFS CCP fix the missiles.

hehe yer this happens in my cruiser too, but the funny thing is it does'nt happen in my kestral and out of all my ships you'd expect that to go flying the most off a missle hit.

It's an agility thing, small ships won't dance around because of higher agility.

Edited by: Danton Marcellus on 10/05/2004 03:38:47 Ah so that's why I never get into warp being spammed with missiles, it's a good thing we have these boards or it'd taken me another 5-10 ships to figure it out.
You can stop posting hairbrained suggestions about warpscrambling missiles, they're already in.

Lol.. yeah.. I remember when I was playing with a Leviathan (Min Titan) back in beta and I came out of warp near the base and then an Impairor that followed me to the base came out of warp behind me... and promptly rammed the back of the titan...
5 mins later I managed to slow down from the speed BOOST the Impairor gave me... and was a ridiculously distance away from the station heh.
It's a bit like a small speedboat ramming a cruise liner and the cruise liner being pushed half way around the world at silly speeds as a result.
I think they really need to get the inertial problems sorted... Small ships should not knock the big ships into the next galaxy... should be the other way around in my honest opinion! -------------------------------------------

Even though frigs are more agile, it just seems the sheer size of a cruiser or even a battleship can be shook around that bad from a missle that is like 1000times less the size......I have wrote topics on this before because I have also lost ships becuase of this too...Cmon CCP this can be fixed

Always fit smartbombs for npc hunting rather than defenders - they will kill missiles without preventing you from warping

Actually, your forgetting mass... and space station construction components wiegh very very little compaired to how they look.
If an object hass a mass of 1 ton, the mover in space needs to exert the same amount of force to make it move 1 ton on earth, minus any resistance caused by friction.
Take a Heavy Safe on some kind of dolly or cart... That has a greatly reduced amount of friction keeping it from moving...
But you still may need to give it a heft jolt at first to make it budge...
Anyway, I think missiles should knock a ship around a little...
But the way it happens to BS's sounds rediculous...
At the very least it shouldn't slow down the ship if the missile blast is in the a$$ of the ship. If anything it should shove it forward...
Final word: All in all, it's a bug, CCP will fix it... someday.

what u just wrote about inertia in space is correct but u have forgotten that ships have thrusters on them for 3 demensinal movement
the bigger the thrust applied by the thrusters the further it will move in the direction of the thrust
being no friction in space, and the power released by say a minin nuculer warhead which is fitted to most missles large and small u would expect to be thrown quite far in a big or small ship, although a little off topic all a nuculer war head in space would do would be to glow like a candle then snuff out.
but ... with a higher amount of mass and large thrust exerted by thrusters u should be able to compensate for this in say a battle ship with huge mass and large thrust, also for a titan to be moved by anything except a black hole is obserd as they have their own gravitational wake which would easily throw a small warhead *even a frigate* off course
not entirly true or false some of the above arguments have stated but the game mechanics are needed to be tweaked a little, but i am not one to rant about 0 G physics

Although space mechanics can be confusing in this case the obvious answer is the correct one. It's all about mass the same as it is down here at the bottom of a gravity well. If someone detonates a hand grenade under your car it will bounce. If they detonate a hand grenade under an ocean liner it will not bounce.
Although you could argue that so much of Eve is in defiance of the laws of physics (the whole notion of 'dog fights' in space is dubious) that it doesn't matter this particular violation should be addressed. Most of Eve's violations can be addressed through pretend technology. This won't work here because if a frigate can be intertial damped so can a BS.
I'll add my vote:Fix it please, CCP -- (Battle hardened miner)

Actually I didn't forget anything
I don't think you read down to the last few lines of my post
I make it clear that chances are, the ships really shouldn't do much of anything when hit by a missile unless it's one that blows like a smart bomb or something.
I actually kinda liked the wobble when it used to happen to my thorax, but if it interferes with basic things like warping out then it's both too exploitable, and too annoying to keep in...
So I am also pretty sure I read CCP is looking into this already and have stated that it's a bug.
I'm pretty sure the people who have seen this happen to a titan saw it happen due to the fact that the titan doesn't have all the proper stats yet... So it gets bounced around like crazy because of that, or something... Least I think thats what a DEV said on the subject?
Anyway mark my words, one day, perhaps the day before EVE is closed for the final time, this bug will get fixed :) Because it just HAS to be a bug.

True enough but detonate a 20th century torpedo under an ocean liner and it will definitely bounce the ocean liner. Read reports of sailors who survived torpedo attacks and they tell stories of the whole ship being bounced out of the water and the stunning violence of it all.
The problem I see isn't so much that ships get pushed around by missiles but that it is amazingly inconsistent. I have chained rats that toss missiles at me and often I move not at all and other times my ship literally almost rolls over. This is all just sitting there sucking up missiles so nothing I did changed anything. Sometimes my cruiser would get tossed and others calmly sit there.
Perhaps as long as ships have shields up they should not get tossed (energy being absorbed by the shield and not transferred to the ship). Once they lay into armor then perhaps ships can start getting tossed.
