Edited by: RazorJack on 10/06/2008 20:57:04 OK - I understand the economic balance issue (Veld + 40, Zyd -80) but...
What are the underlying issues (let's ignore T2 moon stuff for now, and just look at the standard minerals) ?
Why is veld high? Probably too little supply *in the places people want it* is the issue here. (1) It is simply a pain to move around. Why fill a freighter with veld to make a 100 mill or so when you can shift more profitable goods? (2) Mission loot and drones drops refine into relatively little veld, so mining is required.
Why is everything else low? Too much supply is the only logical conclusion, so why is supply too high? (1) Non-miners get too much high end ore as a by-product of mission drops? (2) Low sec miners are simply mining too much high end ore - when you see how effectively an alliance team strip whole systems of belts this is not too hard to see as a major reason for low price. Stripping higher end ores is more profitable when you take transportation into account, so the market correction for veld doesn't occur. (3) Veld is a choke point on efficient production, so demand for other minerals will stay low until veld supply picks up and price drops a bit?
-----------
The main issue here is not individual miners (relatively small suppliers in the macro-economy), but what the mining alliances do. If we want an increase in the supply of Veld, then they are realistically the ones who can do it. If we want to make Veld more "profitable" we have to make more than just the mining yield into account - transport is by far the biggest cost in Veld mining.
I'd be interested to see what leaving everything the same, but reducing veld volume (and mining yield volume) by a factor of ten would achieve. If veld supply picks up everything else might correct to some degree. Sure we can tinker with high end ore yields, but small changes can have big effects, so I'd like a small change to try and improve Veld supply first.
An upwards "correction" in highend mineral cost towards base price is surely bad for any non-miner (more expensive ships and modules), so something I'd personally like to avoid =) Everyone claiming cheaper T2 is missing the point I think... |
