Immediately after Empyrean Age has been deployed we'll have some guys from the Game Design team sit down and answer your questions. The Live Dev Blog will start at 20:00 GMT and last one hour to 21:00 GMT.
To listen in all you have to do is join the in-game channel 'Live Dev Blog' at 20.00 GMT this Thursday, 16 June, and join audio. If you really want to listen to the blog, but can't make it that time, a recording will be made available at a later date.
As usual, with the Live Dev Blogs, you have the opportunity to post your questions on our forums. Those questions, and others, will then be answered during the Live Dev Blog. Please post your questions in this thread!

Black ops need massive reconfiguration: Is there a plan beyond "separate fuel bay?"
Pilgrim is fundamentally useless: Is there ever going to be some reason to not use this ship as a hauler?
Damp and EWAR stacking calculation revision: Is this going to be revised or is life after scripts going to mean we have to wait for tech two scripts?

Edited by: Ral Ulgur on 09/06/2008 14:50:20 What ideas are persued to expand on the factional warfare idea? Will there be new items specific to the militia LP stores? Any other rewards beyond fun? State issue ships? Will there be "tactical environments" in factional warfare environments?
What is planed for AFs? Are there any changes coming to large artillery and the pilgrim?
PS: Good job on the covert ops model consitency change!

1. Please elaborate on the changes to the system of high sec ganking? 2. Gallente Recons defense against is sensor boosters which are common. Making the recons terrible. Perhaps shift it so the recons are using a script that becomes instead of sensor boosters but rather signal amplifiers? aka recon sensor damps lessen the max number of locked targets. 3. How far along is the POS fuel streamline system? Fuel pellets/bars/rods 4. Dominix Navy Issue or Rogue Drones Faction bs???? PRETTTYY PLEEAASEEE! 5. Official forums compatibility with Ingame Browser? 6. Mini-freighter? 250,000m3 transport? 7. Titan + DD changes? 8. Faction drones? Augmented suck! CCP wants to help usher people into PvP with Empyrean Age, which is very exiting, but yet PvP remains primarily an isk sink, which means most people need to spend lots of time NPCing to support a PvP habit, in worse cases people buy GTCs, or break the EULA to fund PvP. If we want to encourage PvP why is it that PvP can't be made more profitable when you win, and a loss when you loose? --- Mining hulls for the juicy goods inside.

Edited by: Kyoko Sakoda on 09/06/2008 17:31:33 I don't think the uber large text is necessary to get your questions answered here.
But I do have a couple questions:
- How is game design progressing in terms of dealing with the issue of excessive speed and the extraordinary value of speed tanking? Considering the success of target painters, can we expect to see signature radius play a larger role in tanking in the future?
(Potential flamers also be reminded the Huginn gets a target painter bonus.)
- Can we expect to see more love for minor faction and pirate LP stores in the future (and perhaps some more mission types)?
Ghost Festival is recruiting. |

Hi, just a few questions: 1. When you tire of FW and quit the militia in what corp do you end-up? Will you still be a part of the corp you originally were a member of or some random NPC? 2. What kind of missions/agents types you are going to introduce? Will it be only kill & conquer missions, or there will be more subtle strategic ones like spy, support, logistics etc.? 3. What will be the reward level of the missions in FW compared to NPC mission levels? Since missions can very well end up with many player ships destroyed, what will be done in making that loss worth the risk?
Anyway, let's see how this will work out. |

*) Hmmm, the decision to hold a Live-Dev-Blog the day after the release of an expansion might be problematic. *) The MMORPG-IRC-Chat was really great, we canŠt you change the Live-DevBlogs into IRC-Chats? *) Please post a transcript this time!
Questions: *) What are your expections on how many player will be part of FW within 2 months? *) What are your plans for the next expansion? How about some improvements to Mining and Science and Industry? Probing could also need a massive rework...

There have been a few subjects that have been mentioned in other dev blogs but have dropped of the radar. For example:
Ships:
Assault Frigates Capital changes Black Ops changes Force Recon (esp Pilgrim and Arazu) Orca?
Mechanics
Bounty Hunting (been waiting a looong time for this) New mineral types / asteroid belts Exploration / scanner improvements
Also can we expect to see any of the FW mechanics evolved into wider game play: for example FW installations dont 'appear' until scanned (something that we might see with asteroid belts?), contesting systems (soveriegnt / pos warfare fix?)
What happend to the 'future view of EVE blog' that was due out??
Finally can we avoid the formated response of some previous dev blogs where nothing is really said - e.g
"Some players have been asking about X" "yeah we've got some really cool ideas about that and its being discussed, but nothing concrete at the moment' "wow - that sounds amazing - look forward to that...moving on.."
Thanks

How about this as a question :
"Dear CCP game designers, do you plan to do ANYTHING about the balance of prices any time soon ?"
If the question is not clear enough "as is", the containing thread should give ample explanations as to what exactly does it mean.

I have two questions in mind, which perhaps could be answered during the Dev Blog:
- Will it be possible to simultaneously pertain to more than a single militia? (i.e. those of two allied factions)
- When is the Premium content coming to the official Linux client? The statements from CCP indicated Q1 2008 but... :(
Thanks. |

Edited by: Batolemaeus on 11/06/2008 18:12:22 0) So far several regions are infested by instalogging macrofarmers, who are not only an annoyance, but also contributing to the isk-sellers and are a security issue.
Can we see a small "fix" so the players can handle the problem? One possible fix would be a two minute Aggro from killing rats.
1) Exploration right now can be extremely frustrating. Are there improvements planned for it? I already made a Thread with some suggestions. And while we are at looking at Exploration: Moving belts into the exploration section, will it happen soon? |

Ignoring my previously asked question which only pertains partially to Factional Warfare (that is to say, almost not at all), and ignoring also a myriad of OTHER chronic issues, focusing only on the actual issues of Factional Warfare, let's have some new ones. ____
1. What are the plans for the penalties associated with failing a FW mission ?
If failing a FW mission is a distinct possibility (even very small), given how probable it is for a FW mission to fail, and considering how unforgiving the standings losses are (the higher you are, the more they hurt, and coming back up is much harder than losing it in the first place), do you have any plans to alter the mechanic for standing gains/losses for FW missions compared to regular missions, in general ?
In particular, I am refering to the way a FACTION standing loss is associated with failing a mission : instead of a percentage loss from the difference between -10 and current standing, have it be a standing loss of a percentage between +10 and your current standing. In other words, a 1% gain will be all but nullified by a 1% loss (and vice-versa) regardless of faction standing... opposed to the current system where the higher you are, the more a small percentage loss affects you, and you need a great deal of large gains to compensate.
To be honest, as soon as people will start failing faction standings, they will quickly withdraw from running factional warfare missions. Which brings us to the next point...
2. What's the point of the "site" missions ?
You gain no standings,m you gain no loyalty points, why would anybody (in the long run) persists in running them at all ? What's there to gain from running them ? If there's absolutely no incentive to run them, nobody would run them either.
However, bothe of the previous issues seem to be offset somehow (in a pathetic way) by the following issue :
3. Other than the opportunity to "shoot stuff" and/or roleplay, what is the MOTIVATION of players to defend their faction's occupancy space ?
Right now, it appears that defending it is actually detrimental, not only devoid of any benefits. First off, more territory for your empire means less territory for the enemy, so whenever you try to run a mission it will send you in a smaller number of possible systems, where the potential opposition might be increasingly difficult. So it is in the best interest of all militia players to just IGNORE eachother and just proceed with FW missions in hostile territory instead of bothering to defend it at all.
All in all, other than a weak excuse to shoot at eachother, the whole system of factional warfare lacks any kind of motivation, or, better said, lacks the motivation to run it "as intended". So... what do you plan to do about it ?
How do you plan to KEEP people ATTEMPT to run FW missions even if their faction standings are threatened to go into the crapper ? How do you plan to keep anybody interested in running sites, if there's nothing but crappy NPC loot to be gained there ? And finally, how do you plan to make DEFENDING your faction's territory actually MEAN something ?
Unless you can address these issues, FW right now can only be considered a shabby, completely disorganized "skeleton" on which future patches/expansions MIGHT add some sense, and everybody will quickly lose interest in it until you decide to add motivators in, by which time it might actually be too late... the rush is gone, FW ends up as a failure from lack of participation.
Any thoughts ?

Originally by: BFish Are there plans to balance the number of pilots in each militia?
I seriously doubt that this is the case, since any "caps" here are next to impossible to implement without upsetting a large playerbase. And I also think it's a big problem, especially since a lot of "mains" that join up will be extremely reluctant to abandon Jita as main trade hub, and therefore the Caldari side of FW will most probably be grossly over-represented.
The only marginally acceptable alternative for this would be to ramp up rewards for the "losing" side (the empire gets desperate and throws more cash at it to make it better)... but this could in turn lead to even nastier issues like players intentionally letting their faction grow weak just for the sake of rewards. Meh.

Are you aware of how much you ****ed off most of the Helios pilots?
Are you aware that most of them are trashing it and wasting over a week on Amarr Frigate V?
Are you aware that 99% of the EVE populace didn't care that the Helios wasn't based on the astrometrics frigate?
Can you at least add some cool lights and antennas to it to somewhat balance it looking like something I left in the toilet last night?

Dear "Destiny"
You know i bin a bad boy. No question about this. As you remember i am in Home Computers since 1978 and in space genter games since than, with "Asteroids," a born miner no doubt. But since you send this "curse" named EvE to deprive me from what was my social live, i can now only pressume that you would grand me answers for those simple questions that bother me. After Empyrian Age, what can i excpect to happen? Will walking in station come? Will the enviroment graphics get better? Will market objects finaly get 3d status? Will the spreadsheet look of the display change to something more SciFi appropriate? Speaking of displays will a 2 screen eve client come out maybe? How about new planets and planetary interaction? I know EvE was meant to be a punishment for my un-normal socialisation in RL. But since CCP screwed that last part lets hope that they will work in those directions.
P.S "Destiny" hmmmm, that sounds like a catchy name for a patch
Cheers to all players. You people rock. |
