If a module is at the beginning/end of a rack, does the heat that would normally spread to the other side simply disappear because there are no modules at this side, does it wrap over to the other side, or do I get twice the heat in the other direction
Like this:
#1 Hardener - Heat Sink - DCU - Plate
Would I get twice the heat to the right side? Would the heat to the left wrap over to the plate? Or would the heat to the left simply disappear into nowhere? |

No. The rack does NOT wrap-around.
As far as I can tell you don't get twice the heat spreading the other way either.
I put the mods which I normally overheat at the ends of the rack - like mwd one end and point the other end. |

This.
And if you want to experiment with it, EFT tends to do it quite visually. |

If you have a spare/utility high slot, I'd recommend sticking it in the middle of the rack. That way you should have only 2-3 weapons taking heat from each side, as opposed to all but 2 weapons taking heat damage from each side if ya have them all clumped together. |

Yeah I know about heat sinks, thank you for the tip anyway.
So I'll stick to my current layout where the active modules I want to overheat are located at the end of the rack, and my tank modules are located in the center.
So basically I have hardener-heatsink-heatsink-DCU-EANM-Plate-trackingenhancer-heatsink-hardener now in my low slots :)
That way my DCU, EANM and Plate are as far away from the heat as possible - I think that's most sensible :)
Thanks for the help guys |

The plate will take LOADS of heat damage - also I don't believe an offlined module helps as a heatsink. You can test it out for yourself but unless the module acting as heatsink is useful in some way then I get better results with an empty slot. There doesn't appear to be a lot of difference one way or another IMHO - its marginally in favour of empty slot but no big deal either way.

Tippia, you're misunderstanding the term "heat sink." Certainly, any module will absorb damage from adjacent modules. The distinction is that an offline or empty slot will reduce heat accumulation, allowing you to overheat longer. A passive or active module in that slot would not, however.
tl;dr: Slicer with empty high slot or offline salvager -- Good Slicer with online salvager -- Bad |
