Edited by: Akrinos LuCont on 11/06/2008 13:22:39 After listening to Warp drive active #39 CCP interviews on Empyrean warfare, the 'just for fun' pew pew dosent really make any sense- unless it has been changed since.
Blowing up ships for the sake of 'Fun' just isnt fun, unless one gets rewarded!- sorry guys an expansion that focuses on warfare and PvP and only get points for missions running just dosent make sense- ive been waiting for this expansion for along time to start playing again, cause well after few corp experiences and PvP in 0.0 space it felt like a waste of time waiting on gate camps and no gain really except for miners and few loot cards from ships...
so iam not sure the logic of NO HONOR points for ship kills during these mission runs- except a huge hype in an expansion pack on new mission running strategy game facelift.
sorry iam not impressed-ill just keep skilling my character until a better expansion comes along....

Honor points? Hah, what game do you think this is?
Wait, don't answer that.
Blowing up ships for the sake of fun is not necessarily everyone's cup of tea, sure. But I've found that nothing else in this game gives the same adrenaline rush as making a jump into a hostile system with your friends, committing to a do or die assault. Even when on the losing side of a fight, it's still cool to see everyone acknowledge that the fight was a good one.
For 0.0, most of the point is the empire building aspect. Here you have the empire already built for you, all the structure is there to support everyone. It's the part above that makes PVP fun (at least for me), and I hope EA brings that to folks in the game who haven't experienced it yet.

Oh well, I went out just now in a Rifter, secured a site in Caldari territory, and on the way back to my new home system in Placid I ganked two Caldari militia people trying to take over Gallente sites (in separate engagements). Managed to pod the second one. I had fun.

Ah... but at least you're helping your faction - they can't do their missions if they die before they get there, right?
Admittedly, I'd like there to be a certain number of points for each player ship class killed, double for tech 2 or faction, but I doubt they'll add that or they'll end up with a bloodbath (not a bad thing to be honest and something I suspect may happen anyhow).
I've dropped out of alliance warfare for now, myself, so this is looking like it will be fun... might even be looking to join a new corp to help in the fight... just trying to decide which side to join now... I'm thinking gallente atm... since all the newbies are usually Caldari.

I don't think "PvP in Eve" is a point and click game, I think "Eve" is a point and click game. And it is, as far as flying spaceships go.
CS and it's ilk, are shoebox shooters. Dunno what GBT is?

Yes but the OP made a WoW reference, hence, the flames are justified.
When I started playing Eve I figured out within the first ten minutes that nothing I might have learned from WoW applied in Eve. Even though that's beyond completely obvious some people have a hard time with the concept that Eve and WoW are both MMOs - and the similarities stop there.

I really don't understand this mentality. If you want to play WoW, Blizzard will always take your money. Go pay $15 and play the game you want to play. The world has nothing to gain from having both WoW and "WoW in Space."
EVE will be EVE. WoW will be WoW. Play whichever one you like better (which seems to be WoW, at this point.) Don't try to turn EVE into WoW for whatever reason. We don't care which game you play.
The rest of us will continue paying and playing EVE Online, the game we signed up for.

So your point is WoW is much more *fun* game? It is. Some time ago they removed diminishing returns on honor gain because player kills became meaningless in their PvP system.
Player kills.... meaningless. Let that sink in.
And than you have EvE with no honor gain for killing players, yet... Let it sink some more.

1. Go for targets which are worth killing (i.e. they drop good loot). 2. Try to ransom. 3. ??? 4. Reward!
Right, that's a different kind of PVP, it's not something that CCP implemented but a way players play the game, it was in the game before and to some known as piracy. But that's the way you get reward for PVP in EVE - besides having fun blowing up stuff of course. And if that isn't fun for you ... have you tried mining? |

I'm actually inclined to agree with the OP. Currently, FW (to me) is:
1. Enlist with militia. 2. Talk to Agent 3. ??? 4. Profit
As you've might have guessed, the "???" part is the FW missions itself, which generates a reward.
EvE is about profit, wether its through piracy, mining, PvP or mission running, and i think that the "???" part, should include FW PvP too, be it that they generate the same rewards as the FW missions, or be it another system, that gives profit depending on acomplishments (say battles participated in, victories, losses, shiftings in occupancy of a system/region.
