1. Expect to lose your ship if you don't have intel on what's on the other side of the gate.
2. Expect to be probed out in lowsec within minutes (or moment) of your arrival.
3. Practice getting your pod out. No use buying new implants every time you go to pvp.
4. Fly with friends.
5. Fly with friends in blackbirds.

1. Wear as many Warp core Stabilizers as you can, best chances of getting away.
2. Fly the biggest, most expensive ship possible. Less of a chance people will attack you.
3. Haul projectile rounds for hybrid guns, crystals for projectile guns and hybrid rounds for lasers. Crossover technology actually inreases damage output by 50%
4. Fit every ship with a cloak, less of a chance for people to see you.
5. The best combination of damage output and control is Drones coupled with Smartbombs. Gets those really small, fast ships so much easier. |

1. Only fly what you can afford to loose. 2. Expect to loose said ship the moment you undock. 3. Have an updated clone. 4. Have insurance (if flying T2 then don't worry about insurance). 5. Have fun. |

Edited by: Kali Ananda on 11/06/2008 16:11:48 1) Learn to use the Directional Scanner. It is your #1 friend, and I have it up and in use 100% of the time.
2) Fight on your terms, never theirs. Use tactics and surprise to force the fight in your favor.
3) Use second account covert scouts or alts. Intelligence of the surrounding area is paramount.
4) Train and specialize for a few ships that fill a role. Learn to use them well, find the best fittings, and fit them totally pro. Use rigs, and the best T2, faction, or top-named modules.
5) Fight to win. Be aggressive. Use fear to demoralize your targets. Use psychological tactics. Don't be a smack-tard, at least until after you clean house!

My top 5 tips are -
1. ALWAYS listen to the FC, try not to make silly mistakes. If you didnt catch something ask him again.. He'd probably rather you ask again then you jump when not supposed to. 2. Shoot ONLY the primary target. This makes the primary go down quicker, thus destroying the hostile fleet quicker. 3. When soloing, have an idea what your ship is capable of, and look at the enemy's employment history for a rough estimate of his skills. If you're a Jan '07 player in a Brutix and hes a Jan '04 player in a brutix, it's more then likely you will lose. 4. Probably the most important - ONLY fly what you can afford to lose! 5. If in an interceptor or something of that size, and you're designated for tackling, you dont generally NEED to shoot the primary, so help the fleet out. If you see a bomber sitting there spamming cruise missiles, take him out, but remember to keep point on the primary. Often the FC will tell you to spread points, if that happens, orbit a ship within scrambler/disruptor range that you think will be an expensive kill () tell the FC you have [insert name] tackled.

1)Fly the least expensive frigate you can find and equip with the cheapest T1 mods known. After you get blown up 100 times and still feel like you want to PVP go see your shrink.
2)Read all the EVE PVP guides known to man.
3)Don't worry about tanking until after getting blown up that hundredth time.
4)Join a PVP corp that needs cannon fodder.
5)Don't listen to any advice give on the forums. No one cares about you.

In other words - PAY ATTENTION. 3) PvP in a group if you want kills, PvP alone if you want to test yourself and/or gamble with death. 4) Always have a scout/spotter with you. 5) If you know what you're fighting, fit for it - take advantage of it. 6) If you have no-dea what your going to fight, fit safe (ECCM, across-the-boar hardners) 7) Always have some form of nano-countermeasure in your group. 8) Have at least one of your friends bring some form of ECM. 9) Always listen to your FC/Gang Leader - keep all fleet comms (wither it be voice or text) clear of non-essential crap. 10) Don't try be a hero, don't be ballsy - fight the fights you can win/have a chance at, avoid the impossible fights; you can fight another day, and you're useless to the rest of your corp/alliance if your fleet is dead and/or drained of morale/ISK.
11) The most important rule of all. BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST - **** happens, a lot of the time it can't be helped. |

And where exactly should one do that? I guess somewhere close to you and a specific gate. Which?

I'm still fairly new, but this is what's helped me most:
1. As others have said, expect to lose your ship. If you don't want to lose it, don't pvp in it. That said though, I actually found it quite relieving when I finally lost my first BS in pvp. I've grown to actually kinda like losing ships in a wierd sadistic way.
2. Learn the governing mechanics. Make sure you understand things like aggression timers, what makes gate guns / concord shoot you, how bubbles work, what different ships are good at, etc.
3. Start with something that's not expensive to lose. For very new players, expendable tackling frigs are perfect: they cost almost nothing yet are very useful. For those with more resources, even a BS is pretty cheap to lose if you ensure it and don't put tons of money into mods/rigs.
4. Don't start with a ship that's a flying bulls-eye. Expendable tackling frigs are an exception to some extent but you'll learn more if you're in a ship that won't get blown up in the first 20 seconds of your patrol's first encounter. Ships that qualify as flying bulls-eyes are EAS frigs, combat recons, scorpions, logistics ships, brutix, thorax, etc. These types of ships get targetted fast because they're fairly easy to kill and very troublesome if you don't.
5. Skill and fit to be awesome at a few things, not ok at a bunch of things. |

1. Battleclinic.com, scrapheap-challenge.com. Go research some PvP fits. What you use for PvE, and what you should use for PvP, are different. 2. EFT. Do a little research on the different fits and see what works with your skills 3. Don't fit a web and scram, after all, if you have 15 people in your little pack and everyone fits a scram and web, what about all the other ewar? You don't need 15 points on a target. 4. Listen to the FC 5. Have a little fun and learn

1. don't fly/use anything you can't afford to lose. 2. death/losing means that you have the chance to refine your tactics/loadout. 3. you will die/lose. sooner or later. well, most of the time it's sooner. 4. FC is god. the scout is gods eye. a blind god will cause mayhem - in your own fleet. 5. just because someone has lots of SP, it doesn't mean he is skilled. 6. if you wait for PvP to happen, you'll get bored. 7. dunno. have fun. ___________________

1) If you are just learning how to pvp don't waste your isk on rigs, you will lose your ship, use cheap fittings. 2) Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. 3) The first couple times you get shot at is an adrenalin rush, you will probably freeze and not be able to think, lol. This will pass after you get killed a couple times and you will start thinking about what you should be doing again :) (use very cheap ships for this) 4) Insure your T1 ships, you won't lose much isk when you die. 5) Don't wear implants !!

Except for Ravens. A Raven alone in a belt in 0.0 is someone who is incredibly happy, and it's your task to ruin that. |

1. Don't drink coffee or any other caffeinated drink before you pvp for the first time - you may shake a body part off.
2. Keep a bed pan next to your computer. Sometimes an empty coke bottle will do in a pinch.
3. Speaking of pinch, a trip to the bathroom to drop off the kids first is a good idea.
4. If married, watch out for wife aggro. Just make sure your family understands that you are saving the universe.
5. Please for the love of all that is holy...do not give us a play by play of how you are dying on comms.

1) You will lose eventually, probably sooner or later just accept that fact 2) Don't fly something you can't lose 3) Mind mindful what's in your cargo! You don't want to lose all of those Tech II items you just bought 4) Before undocking or going PvP'ing check the clone, the station, insurance, your cargohold, etc... 5) Have fun and remember, there's always someone better then you out there -------------- "Politics. As exciting as war. Definitely as dangerous... Though in war, you can only get killed once. In politics it can happen over and over."
