Hiya,
The patch notes say:
Quote: Visual effects will now show when activating an afterburner. Thrusters now increase in relation to speed increase.
But I don't see any difference at all when I activate my AB. Does anyone notice a difference? Do we know what happened to this? |

the new effects are only visible if you are in a gang with 40 or more people blobbing a gate telling everyone this is FW

I see a difference.
You gotta look at their 'volume,' as they get a lot shinier when you go faster. I run the classic client btw, so it's maybe the bloom effect of the Trinity client that renders it basically unnoticeable.

I am using the trinity client. That would be truly horrible if by turning on graphic options you effectively turn off graphic features. I'm going to test it real quick without bloom and see if thats it. |

I don't see a difference either, I have Trinity too. |

I'm using trinity graphics and tried it out on my executioner with a mwd. The thruster flame got around 1.5 - 2 times larger. Guess with a normal afterburner the size increase is much less pronounced.
Maybe they should square the increase instead of making it linear. *shrugs* |

They said in the patch notes that the faster you go the more noticeable it is. |

This is a pretty neat little addition. The first step to having more and better ship effects....maybe soon we'll actually see shield damage and such :) |

Edited by: Anell on 12/06/2008 21:21:03 Alright I tested it out. It was a little more noticeable with bloom off, but now that I know what I'm looking at I was able to tell a difference. However, the difference is so damn small it was actually extremely disappointing once I realized what I was looking at. I was in my Hurricane when I tested it so we are not talking about going super fast. Probably only from 200 some m/s to 500 some m/s but I was expecting more then just a 30% or so increase in jet flame that occurs very very gradually. It was such a small increase that unless you are zoomed all the way in and watching carefully from the time you start to when you reach full speed you probably wouldn't even notice a difference.
Some of the advertisements going on about the new expansion make it look like a little boom goes off when you hit the AB which would have been much cooler I have to say. I agree that they need to make it bigger. |

Oh god please no, in all the space-themed sci-fi games I've played (the ones that involves spaceship combat, obviously), I've found shield effects to be extremly annoying. Having something (usually) blue flash around your ship in bright colours just disturb me, and keels my computer too. And it sort of gives that "Star-Wars ooh so shiny sci-fi" feeling where everything is so neat and polished, and lazorz flying about, and your ship is protected by some kind of invisible bubble...

Well to each his own but I think it would be cool. Maybe add tracer rounds to projectile ammo, burning effects to ships when they get hit by lasers, etc. If it kills your computer...time to upgrade :)

Yeah I agree with you, actually there's a good chance that CCP will add this stuff. The second graphics update will be on all the objects in space such as planets, moons, the terrain and random things in space. I suspect their 3rd one (They're calling it in their own department Renovations I,II,III, with I being Trinity) will be just a general graphics update with the effects you mentioned. --------------
