Because FW is lame. Everyone is saying the missions are way too risky for the rewards. FW will die pretty soon since, just like everything in Eve Online, there is no real reason to do anything.
Again, you can just sit in high sec space making more isk than you can in low sec and training up all your skills.
Factional warfare was introduced as an extension of role play, for the role players and rookies seeking quick entrance into pvp. Not for high sec ISK farmers who don't see a reason to do anything in game unless it makes their own personal wallet grow.

Weeeeeeeeeell that's not entirely true FW means a high casualty rate. A high casualty rate means a high supply demand for new ships.
you know who's gonna rule the universe? Gunrunners. Why? Because everyone else will be too busy killing each other.

But that is the point. High sec should not be very profitable.

something epic about the scale that I haven't ever really seen in another game. Telling my friends about all the complexities is pretty hard, so I haven't really gotten anyone else into it, but some have shown some interest. This is the longest an mmo has held my attention for a while, and no other is on the horizon, cept maybe when CCP releases a new one.
No other game has continued to get better at such a staggering rate too. When I first played in 2004, the game was a little difficult to get into anything (cept mining veld), and returning a few months with the help of an awesome corp I can really see how much their is to do in this game. Ill be playing for a while.

Really, I do not understand why ccp does not make 0.0 space ores worth way more than high sec ores. Or why they don't make it so there are unique items only in 0.0 space, like special skills or ships.
Well in 0.0 you can run missions for the pirate corps, get the very expensive implants like snake, slave, etc, find skills like drug making, blueprints for drug reactions, officer spawns with their 20 mil bounties.... You don't see this in hi or low sec, only 0.0.

I wasn't replying to the OP. I was replying to your post that I quoted which said FW sucks and will die out.
As for the OP yes you're right there is a problem with risk vs reward balance in this game. But remember that not all people play to make more and more ISK. People enjoy other aspects of the game rather than deriving their sense of achievement solely from watching their wallet and sp numbers grow. Hence why there are still pirates and 0.0 alliances around.

I play Eve because I'm a science-fiction kind of guy.
Back in the DOS days my favorite games were in the Wing Commander series, especially Privateer.
I like flying, fighting and working in space.
Eve has no competition in this area. Most of the other MMOs are Doom or Quake or Dungeons and Dragons writ large. Even Starwars Galaxies takes place on the ground.
If there was a competitive space MMO I would try it. |

Because there is no other MMO that gives me the freedom to do as I please, where (in)actions can have consequences and where being smart is rewarded. It's the one MMO where if people are mindign their own business and not interacting with others because they play the game solo, you can MAKE them notice you.

Ah, now this sounds more interesting. What are "pirate corps"? And what do you need to kill officer spawns? And what do drugs do for you? |

The points you mentioned are kind of "single player" sided - train skills, get isk. If you play eve online on single player mode then you won't have much fun.
It's a MMORPG, people play it for its multiplayer/social aspects. Corporations with clear goals give people a sense of purpose, direction and drive. Forming fleets with your corpmates to hunt down and kill your enemies is fun !
The more you interact with the other players the more you will like the game. Judging by your post, it seems you have no goals set. Eve isn't like other MMOs that tell you what do.
Set goals! Say "I will dominate the T2 market in this region" and do it, or "I will max out the efficiency of the corp department I run" and do it, or "I will become a great fleet commander with good knowledge of fleet strategy and tactics" and do it!
Skills and ISK are just the tools for you to reach your goals. No goals, no fun, no point to play.

i play eve because it's constantly dangerous. i quit wow because all there ever was in the way of pvp was instanced battlegrounds, where you were fighting your own team's stupidity as much as the other team. ________________________________________________

Pretty much sums it up my exact sentiments Xparky. I couldn't imagine playing EVE on single player mode. ___________________________________________________

Originally by: Menanar Just wondering. Really, what is the point? You never have to leave high sec to max out your skills or get isk. I've read that high sec ores are more valuable than low sec ores. I have only been playing for a couple of months, and will continue for a few more just to see if it ever gets fun.
If you don't get it yet, you probably never will. I doubt it will "get fun" if it's not now. |

Edited by: Wrayeth on 13/06/2008 02:51:40 These days I play EVE mostly for old times' sake - I used to absolutely love this game back before it became all about nanos, capitals, POS sovereignty, and blob warfare. You used to be able to roam around solo or in 3-5 man gangs and have fun, but now you can't fly two jumps without tripping over a 100-man fleet.
The mechanics have changed, and the players' mindsets have changed along with them. [rant] Gone are the days when pilots looked for a challenge and fights where personal skill mattered; instead it's all about winning at all costs and doing the "smart" thing (i.e. "it's stupid to engage at even odds"). This isn't real life, folks - we're here for fun, FFS, so stop the nano-lameness and blobbing, grow a pair, and freaking pew-pew.[/rant]
I'd had hopes that factional warfare would renew my interest in the game. Unfortunately, even factional warfare is blobtastic...just as I feared. There have been posts on CAOD about 180-man fleets comprised entirely of FW participants, FFS.
Anyway, I was going to type something a lot more eloquent and less ranty, but I'm tired and couldn't reign in my disgust. Simply put, the reason I play EVE is that it was once the best game I've ever played in my entire life, and I've got too much time, effort, and history invested to quit right now, though I'm finding fewer and fewer reasons to log in every day.

Yes, but fortunately people usually don't bother.
And to answer the OPs question... I've never, ever seen any need to think about it and I still don't. Why do I keep playing? Because I choose to, simple as that. No need to try to understand the choice when the choice itself makes perfect sense.
Ok, enough of this matrix-like choice crap, back to your regularly scheduled forum antics.
