That couldn't have anything to do with annexation of systems in Essence, now, could it?

Well, I suppose if you value above all else the ability to lack emotion in times of turmoil, then indeed, the STPRO's literature is quite impressive indeed.
As I've mentioned many times before on GalNet, I believe that there is a latent disgust for the status quo within the federation. In the eyes of many, the last decades have been psychological defeat after defeat. In simple terms, the winner of a war writes the history books. The FDU's recruitment information plays to the long-repressed spirit inside the hearts of many.

Our words betray our soul, our true intentions. Our deepest opinions and convictions. Only the most skilled liars and con men can always hide their emotions and true selves. It requires a deep dishonesty to keep up such stoicism, and it's always for one's own ambition and desires. That's the comedy of it all, and that's why there is penetrating mistrust and scorn for the State in the hearts of the Gallente. Your most skilled deceivers are treated with the highest of honors, and are exalted as visionaries. It's no surprise that the kind of liars, the kind of sociopaths, that can ascend the ranks in such a dysfunctional society, will often use people to their deaths at the drop of a hat. Which brings us to Heth, and xenophobia.
The classic xenophobe is vehemently insistent that they're not afraid of that which is different. After all, why be afraid of something so obviously inferior to you? The kind of simple, malleable mind that falls victim to xenophobia is also prone to parrot the concepts of ultimate patriotism and 'honor'.
They fear because differences expose their own shortcomings. A scared being will claw and grasp wildly to try to save itself.
Our kind, Verin? Our kind indeed. You cannot lose a homeworld that resides in the hearts and minds of a people. Having your homeworld back won't solve any of your problems, in fact, I'd wager it will exacerbate them. Have fun with it.

Perhaps. Or perhaps we would've grown even more different, and let greed for resources and power lead us into a holocaust resulting in the annihilation of one or both of us. There is, unfortunately, still time for that.
Additionally you misinterpreted my words, perhaps intentionally. I have little care about the military occupation of a planet in Luminaire. This war is changing us already. A few weeks ago, I would never believe that someone as high-minded as yourself would resort to 'Us and them', and succumb to borderline racism. Alas.

I should also point out that your men were operating in a warzone. They knew the risks when they went in there, and still did their job.
That's quite a stretch. What gives you the ability to declare that Luminaire VII was a warzone before the State assaulted it?
