Originally by: Sir Que I am not an expert at this game by any means. But I have hade my share of group hunting / gathering in other games.
In general group events (Such as mining) are not to make you more money per hour to start with. What they are for is to improve your game time. Lets face it, not only is mining a bit boring upon itself, but having a hauler (Even decked out) that has to make 3 trips (through god knows where) every hour to keep up with that 1,000,000 and hour Veldspar is a pain in the ass.
So what you are getting is convenience, socializing, and ôbondingö. In a Corporation (Guild, Sect, Clan) environment everyone should be working there butts off for the same goal. If not you are in the wrong corporation in my opinion. If that is so, the guy in the Osprey (decked out the best he possibly can) is working just as hard as you are in your Hulk. It is just unfortunate that he is limited by the amount he produces by his equipment.
Now take that scenario where you are getting less then you are putting in (material wise, not effort wise). In 6 months when all of those members you just joined with have Hulks themselves, you will reap the benefits of all of you mining together (Bonus), the convenience of having a hauler perhaps, possibly a fleet ship to help with the load, and you have created some friends.
At the end of the day you just have to ask yourself, ôIs this corporation going to be worth it in the long run for me to take a loss nowö. Basically what you did when deciding to spend time on learning skills instead of something that gave a bonus directly to mining. If the answer is yes, then you should be fine. If the answer is no, it would be best to break ties now before bonds form and feelings are hurt.
All my opinion, take it for what it is worth.

I disagree with this outlook as an explanation for the scenario the OP posted. It's perfectly fine for a corporation to ask members to contribute to the organization, but it's another thing to take 80% of the cut without saying anything.
This sounds like a boondoggle to me. No one mistakenly forgets to distribute 80% of the ore, and I also don't believe a planned mining op would be so lasse faire with the distribution that they'd give guys flying bantams and ospreys the same cut as the guys flying hulks.
I would definately ask questions about this within the corporation. And don't fall for a "everyone needs to sacrifice" explanation. That's horse****. Long term, any corporation will get a ton more participation and ore taking a 5-10% cut or buying the ore at a 5-10% discount from mining ops. Anyone taking 80% is just a greedy bastard.
If they did mean to take most of the cut, find a new corporation. That one's going to be empty soon.
