Alright so I've recently been hearing about how easy it is to make isk out in 0.0 when your ratting and such (correct me if I'm wrong) and I was just wondering how a new player, such as myself, can go about getting out there? I realize one must join a good corp/alliance but I mean I heard you need to be in a BC or better in order to actually kill what out there...so how "old" a player do you need to be to be successful? I'm just getting tired of mining all the time on my alt and then seeing in chat that some guy got a lucky spawn and make 200mil+ off the drops, etc...anyways thanks for any answers/advice :)

Well technically you can fly out to 0.0 and rat whenever you want to. The trick is getting past the gate camps and pvpers enroute. Thats where being in a corp comes in handy, larger corps will controll sections of 0.0 so its a lot easier to get there. As far as your ship, you will need at least a BS and you will need to have enough skill to properly fit and fly it. If your really new, it could take months.

battle cruiser, is fine, or a hac, or even t1 cruisers if in a group.
0.0 corp would be the best way to go, but sometimes they want you to do this peeveepee thing

hell, an assault frigate works too, rather inefficient, but works.

Cruisers (in a group), Battlecruiser, Battleship, Assault ship, all these can work. Just need the skills. However, don't rush getting into a Battlecruiser or Battleship. Get the skills necessary (such as gunnery, mechanic, etc) before you get into those ships. Otherwise, you WILL lose ships. I've heard more than enough stories from rushed ppl.

I would recommend you start with ratting in low sec in cheaper ships than a battlecruiser to get experience ratting/avoiding pirates first. Then you need to decide whether you want to join a 0.0 alliance/corporation or go ninja ratting.
You can kill the rats with a cruiser class ship, however it will take some practice especially if you're low on skill points. It also depends on your cruiser and rats - for example killing Sanshas in a caracal is not easy because Sanshas do EM and thermal damage that melts the shields. However using an Amarr cruiser to kill Sanshas would be perfect. In my experience Guristas are some of the more difficult and annoying rats to kill for new characters. Two other options for killing rats are assault frigates and believe it or not interceptors which can speed tank them. You will need to have at least 2 million skill points in combat skills to start.
For ninja ratting you use an alt to scout the 'pipe' entrance to 0.0 systems for a gate camp. Next you jump in and make several jumps to your destination system. Use Ombey's 2D maps which you can google up to find systems with lowest true security and rat in one of those because rats there will be better. Also make sure the system is away from where most traffic passes. If the system has no station you can dock to, make a safespot and drop about 2-3 giant secure containers. Use them to drop off loot and recharge on ammo. Get a cloak on one of high slots on your ship. Any time anyone comes into local warp out to your safespot and cloak, wait for them to leave. When cans are full haul the loot back to empire.
For ratting with your corp/alliance same things apply only you won't need to warp out as often because some people entering local will be friendly and have blue standings to you. When you see a hostile or neutral you will still need to assess the danger and flee if needed.
