Okay I have an interesting story. I was flying my new Exequror Navy Issue through Delve tonight. I was just screwing around, taking a look at the sights.
Well, I came to a system and there was a SWA Raven in local. His character name was a random name, ending in junke. He was in 1B-VKF. Okay so, I run a quick 360 directional scan and the Raven pops up on scanner named "junke". So, I see a belt on my screen and warp to it. There he is, shooting 2 Blood Popes. He's 100km off so I burn towards him as fast as I can. I get to 40km and he warps away. I chase him to Planet I and just as I arrive he warps -- this time to a safespot.
Okay so I missed that. A few moments later a BNC pilot named Low Blow jumps in. All of a sudden, I'm sort of wondering "eh, where'd he come from". So I continue down the pipe to the SW.
He starts chasing me. He pops up "don't run you idiot" in local. I say I'm just out checking out the sights, and leave the system. I lose him a couple jumps later, then pull a full circle on my tour. Nobody else bothers me, though local had 3-6 in it in various systems I was traversing through.
Once I come back around from my loop, Low Blow is sitting on a gate in his Ishtar. I warp past him and continue forward. He chases me one jump then he stops following me. Now I'm back in the system with junke, and I manage to nail him at a belt yet again, this time warping in at 100km from the previous belt in the list. Sadly he's just activating warp and I miss him.
So I leave that system, continuing back towards NOL. Now I jump into the next system and there is a new SWA pilot named wozuihuai in system. I warp to a random asteroid belt in hopes of catching him. Luck strikes again! This time he's warping to a gate just before I arrive in the belt. I catch him on the directional scanner at the gate so I pursue.
I follow him, closing quickly the next jump. Just as I arrive at the next gate, he jumps out. I jump in only about 3-4 seconds later.
When I jump in, there is a dictor bubble up with Low Blow in the same Ishtar and a Devoter pilot, of whose name I didn't catch, and our SWA Raven friend wozuihuai. The only two people on the gate are Low Blow and the Devoter, I wait a few seconds to see if they aggro the Raven first. The Raven does not uncloak.. I go back to the gate and jump out.
Then it hits me. wozuihuai would not have made it past that camp. The Ishtar and Devoter would have knocked him on his face. Now that I'm back in the other system, I ponder for a minute. Why did that Raven get out? Why did they shoot me, but not the juicy Raven? Hmm.
I decide to go back into the camped system. Same setup, this time local + 1 pilot. wozuihuai is still in system, and Low Blow and the Devoter are still on the gate. I notice that I'm about 3000m away from the edge of the dictor sphere, so I warp off.
I leave Delve and then took a few minutes to examine what happened.
In brief:
1) I enter a system with a SWA isk farming Raven and in about 2 minutes Band of Brothers is in local with me.
2) Band of Brothers did not pursue any of the SWA Raven targets.
3) Further, wozuihuai's Raven escaped the dictor camp. You can't fit enough WCS to a Raven to escape a bubble + point.
4) ????
What does this say to me? This suggests that Band of Brothers (who to be 100% honest I have previously had 100% respect for) use typical jibberish name isk farmers disguised as "Chinese ISK Farmers" to fool people running into their space, to perhaps get the feeling "OMG this space is infested by ISK FARMERS!!! Why doesn't BOB do anything about it!?"
Interesting, huh?

Well I'm going to assume that a Raven in an NPC corp that is 5 months odl shooting Blood Popes (1.85 mil spawn) in a belt in 0.0 is an isk farmer.
As far as I know, BOB is NBSI (not blue shoot it). Why would BOB go to the trouble to blue individual 5 month old (or younger, I've seen) SWA Raven pilots, unless they were in cahoots?

Because of the names they are using that appeals to a stereotype causes a reaction in certain people. It's just social engineering.

Two choises.
1) Chaseing a crapfit raven That'll SS+Cloak instantly.
2) Going after a faction cruiser that might have a slightly better fit worth more isk that might stick around for a fight.
Option two looks pretty good to me. Also most of 0.0 is infested with these little buggers. kill one and it's back in a few hours doin the same thing.

I wonder how they pay them for this protection since getting paid by farmer ISK directly from farmers who will also pass it on to ISK selling chars means you can be parted with it in some not so distant future by GMs. And ravens weren't in a corp as you noted. Petition them in any case.

I think its pretty clever, create a raven alt, with stereotyped name, place in system and rat, make isk while on patrol.
But TBH, I think this post is more about YOU making it to NOL and out, with your ship.

Its been around similar things.
corps/Ceos getting paid to let iskfarmers into corp and farm away. Lowsec haulers en masse macroing away, when you poke them alot, all of a sudden a playercorp decides to defend them, sisi, we pay 5 dolla protect us?
Its a fracking shame realy that macrofarmers can be seen as a ingame resource to control and harvest.

Edited by: NoNameNewbie on 15/06/2008 09:26:01 think about this:
there are lots of farming ravens in delve, lots get killed every day, they are no threat to bob.
BoB ppl could spend endless days killing farmer ravens but why spend time killing a farmer raven that will be back in a few hours in a new raven ?
At least i stopped careing about em after i killed lots of em in the north, sure once one of em jumps into ur scram u kill it, but actually looking for em and spending time getting em is kinda pointless.

No dude it has nothing to do with me and my ship.
Okay some friends of mine and I are talking.
We're thinking something like this:
An alliance with a huge amount of very safe space harbors SWA Raven alts that make isk all day long.
The Alliance protects their alts and PVPs there while their alts farm away money. They use their alts also as a lure to get PVPers to try to attack and say in a system. (Perhaps by not cloaking the Raven.)
SWA Ravens generates hundreds of millions of ISK per hour farming ISK.
Alliance sets up a website to sell and buy the ISK for real life cash. There is also a way that players can sell their isk to the company at a lower rate than they are selling it for.
Player A buys ISK from company, we'll say 100 mil for $5 (ILLUSTRATION PURPOSES ONLY). Company's SWA Raven alts send the money to the player. The Alliance never touches the ISK.
Player B sells ISK to the company at a rate of 100 mil for $2.50 (ILLUSTRATION PURPOSES ONLY). Company SWA alt who has never transferred ISK out receives the ISK. Once Player A returns to purchase more ISK, the same SWA alt that received the 100 mil sends ISK to an SWA Raven sell character and sells the ISK for cash.
Alliance players use the real life money to buy GTCs, and now has made both real life profit and ingame money, at no loss.

Exactly. This spans outward too to the high volume of seemingly macroish mission runners that overpopulate lowsec like a pestilence. LP is big ISK. If you have a few hundred players doing trade missions that drop absolute trash if they are ganked, players will turn a blind eye and not gank them.
Pretty soon, lowsec mission running in HAULERS becomes as safe as ratting in 0.0 space with alliance protection...
It all ties together, and while it's not something I am immediately concerned about, it may be something to examine more closely.

hmm.. lets see
there is the OP
there are the farmers
OP is first time in there.
farmers are allways there.
the farmers log off... cloak... whatever all the time so you cant kill allmost any of them.
the op is see first time.... in a faction ship....
make a guess what they would chase...
that raven could have easily used cloak when jump in...
making assumtions from that makes the OP look stupid... and from hes previous posting ways.... its not worng to assume so either :P ---------------------------------- Yes... this is my main. Extreme Troll Slayer...

I've popped my share of macro haulers while passing thru low sec, and they're usually back in action in minutes. Fatigue, and getting razzed that macro haulers shouldn't be work KB points has pretty much sapped my will to go through the trouble... so I sympathize with this point.

This.
I've put quite a few CPU cycles on my brain as to how farmers and their customers can launder their ISK, and they could be caught in a timely fashion. After I first heard about GTCs, and not knowing totally how they worked, I immediately thought, "hey, that sounds like a great way to launder isk in to and out of the game."
Question about GTCs, when you buy a GTC with ISK does it only work on that account, or do you actually get a "code" to use on whatever account you have?

Aint most 0.0 alliances holding farmers? Even in highsec I meet Goonswam macrominers and so on. Seems its the norm rather than the bad of 1 or 2 corps. I would wish for CCP to do something about it tho, would perhaps also fix the cap wars since caps would get increasingly harder to get without the macro army. A lot of alliances that take more territory than they can use will rent out space to ratters/miners.
Ultimately, it is up to CCP to police. Not sure if you can assume someone is a farmer just because they have stupid names. I am sure if the farmers were clever enough to write 3rd party macros it wouldn't be rocket science to develop an English random name generator that didn't stick out like dog balls.
