well, i know a few of u are on the edge for those black op ships. Me 2 cause i love scan systems and clean up space from "abandoned" ships .
So i was just wondering what was the most exciting stuff u found?
U could name everything, but i¦d be most interested in those "sixt" ships parked in space.
Me and a friend found a whole fleet, i.e. 5 bs, 11 cruiser and 17 haulers. It took us almost 2 weekends but it was worth it lol.
The good thing is, as long as ppl don¦t use exploits to create bookmark safespots you¦l always be able to find them. You just have to try hard enough. -------------------- (Advocatus Diaboli) |

Indeed scanning is an art.
A guide would be worth as lot, if it¦d would contain the tip and trick section.
but lets wait for what these black op frigs are capable of.
BTW, if you guys have some interesting "graveyard ship spots" give me a call and we make a deal. Me and my interceptor get bored. -------------------- (Advocatus Diaboli) |

Freaky, before the Interceptors came in to the game Scanning was some kind of hobby of Elaine... I was in an Kestrel with 2 MWD 1 AB and Nanos, scanning ppl at their safespots! That was real fun.
Best abonded Ship i found was an Armageddon in deep Space around the CFS.

i can generally scan most ships to within a 1au straight line, and this doesnt take ery long, just directional scanning and warping between 2 colidable objects such as a stargate and station, once you find the trajectory u narrow it down by draining ur cap and warping, checking if the object is in front or behind you, repeat for 30min and you should have whatever object you want within a 1au straight line in space
thats the easy part, ive never spent the time to mwd 1au in a ship to find them tho... __________________________________________________

What you mean got a Fully loaded Apoc..... what you just find the ship or you attack the ship in these safe spots, do not get it..
Then again I do not get the whole scanning thing, I kinda have the directional part down, but still can not narrow it down enough... What do you set the range at initially ???

Originally by: Mitchello a few days ago some one got a Jokers apoc fully out fitted with mmining lasers at a safespot, that was funny.
Well that wasn't a Jokers apocalypse (we don't use those ships, don't even have the skills), it was one of our customers' ship. He was using that temporary safespot during one mining operation. Not like I didn't tell him several times that leaving an Apocalypse in space wasn't really a smart move . I believe the "thief" got confused by the Jokers secure cans anchored in place.
Still a good catch anyways!
Yes the scanner is a wonderfull tool in the right hands. For example in the case mentioned by Mitchello, somebody managed to find this Apocalypse a good 5au away from any orbital object. It takes some scanner knoweledge and some patience. This is a good place to start.
Regards.

Yes this guide is highly recommended.
And after that and some hours of caculations, midwarp bm¦s, directional scanning and triangulation lets talk again.
What do u guys use for the final approach, i.e. the last 100 T Km?
3 mwds on an interceptor doing approx. 1500 km per burst or a puisher 2 mwds doing 8,3 Km/s permanently? -------------------- (Advocatus Diaboli) |

Various ammo dumps, shuttles and such. I've gotten close to some active enemies at safespots, but they usually just log or warp. Once I managed to track down a cruiser who's pilot was afk. That was a wonderful reward for my patience.

I've found enemies hiding at safespots multiple times
Ie, not abandoned ships, but active battleship pilots hiding because they are outnumbered in local.
Sure was a nasty surprise for Xetic during our short war when I found them at safespots 2 times in 3 days
Unfortunately, I've only once came across an abandoned battleship parked in space, and that was parked there by a friendly pilot (who of course was told to remove it ASAP).
The scanner sure is a good friend.

I wount disclose this off course, but it is a combination of knowing how it works, and know how to use your scanner in several modes...

I wount tell, you would be dissapointed how easy it is
I am sure many people other than myself have made a discorvey in the usage of scanner on all three modes and still be able to find ships well outside scanner range ... It is not a exploit or anything, just knowing how it all works.
So trust me, safespots hundreds of AU away from anything isn't all that safe.

Here is how I use the scanner (apologies if this spoils anybodies secrets).
Scanner range is 14AU. Check out local system (F11). Make the biggest "box" around the system by using warpable objects. Line up two warp lines at the edge of the system. On each warp line, while warping place down bookmarks every ~20AU. Go back and warp to each one. Then warp from one warp line to another warp line, forming a grid around the system, at around 20 AU from each other. At each location, check out what is in the scanner. Remember the bookmarks are when you press end, not when you first bring it up.
Now that you have something interesting in the scanner, zero in on it. Use direction to get the rough location it is in. You can sort of triangulate it if you want. Use ~4 bookmarks that are around the location of interest, and warp amongst them. Use the same technique: While warping, bookmark as fast as possible. Go back over the bookmarks, and triangulate where the prey is.
Using this method you can get closer and closer to it. When you are close enough, fire up the dual MWD and fly in.

I have heard that there is away to warp past any warpable objects. But then I thought that was an exploit, and has been removed. Since we can't talk about it then, maybe two winks to say it was removed, and one wink to say it's still there, but not to use it?

I once helped a guy find his Moa. He'd ejected from it while it was still moving (D'oh!). This was prepatch when ships didn't stop when you ejected. I managed to get ahead of it in my Probe (again, prepatch when Probes used to REALLY shift), eject, and board it on the fly. Felt pretty pleased with myself, handed the ship over to the guy and he gave me a million Isk for my trouble, which was quite a lot to me.
Finding a moving object was much more of a challenge than a stationary one!
Other than that, where I responded to a specific distress signal in local, I'm not very good with the scanner. If I set it to really fine resolution, and use both hands AND a star chart, I can occasionally find my own arse. ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat.
