So, I just upgraded to the paying version of the game after my trial expired. I have right at 1.3 mil sp and am in need of some advice. I worked my way up to a Rupture and outfitted it for pve following the setups I found in the forums. Tired of lvl 1 missions and wanting larger payouts, I decided to try lvl 2 missions once I got my social and connections to 3. Well, the first task my agent gave me was the blockade. I had to warp out a few times because I was completely overwhelmed and the game started to lag badly. After a couple warps, the damage finally caught up to me and my cruiser was destroyed. Luckily I had just put platinum coverage on it, putting me back up to 13 mil isk. I am considering getting a Caracel strictly for missions. Is there a better alternative for me to use maybe with Matari ships? Also, what other ways are decent subs for earning isk to replace missions? Profitable mining seems to be a bit out of reach for me. Does ratting pay off any? Because my next projected ship, a Hurricane, is a some 20 mil isk away.
I'm sure you have all heard stories like this thousands of times, but anything would be helpful. Thanks

Minmatar ships usually require more SP to be good in missions. With that said, once you get the SP, they are fun - especially the Hurricane in Level 2s and 3s. I suggest that you get another Rupture and keep doing Level 2s - just read the mission guides and learn the triggers. ------------

Sounds like you maybe fitting your Rupture wrongly and that could be due to lack of skills in the right areas. In game message me and ill have a chat and see what your doing and give you any advice I can.

The Blockade is one of the toughest missions but if you don't shoot the triggers you shouldn't have a problem with any cruiser (for the lvl 2 version).
You'd probably get a better feel for what the average mission is like by doing a few more, I think. Maybe skip the Blockade and the anti-empire faction missions til you're more comfortable since those are usually pretty tough compared to others.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.

What exactly are the triggers? To complete the mission what needs to be destroyed, the tower and ships or just the ships? I know the original ships on guard are manageable, but the 20 or so others that join the fray flip the odds. Thanks for you replies btw. And I'll get with you Dapto.

In The Blockade, the ships in each spawn with different names are the triggers. e.g. if there are 3x Core Rear Admirals and 1x Core Admiral, the Core Admiral is the trigger for the next spawn. If you shoot everything else before the odd-man-out, you can manage aggro very effectively.

That would explain why I was swarmed. My tank would have probably held out had I known that. I'll put that knowledge to use. I guess I'll buy a new rupture, unless anyone has a suggestion for a better ship/setup.

Yeah, man. You have to get intel about the mission before you warp in (unless you've done it before of course). A good resource once was www.eve-survival.org. Not sure what state it is now in though.

Until you can fly the Hurricane, keep using Ruptures. They are very cost efficient ships (you make money on the hull if it is ensured when it blows up) and a good way to learn small Minmatar ships. When you get the skills, you can use it's big brother, the Muninn - or fly something else entirely. I <3 my Muninns. ------------

Thanks for the input everyone. One last question, "Artys or smaller autocannons such as the 180's or 220's". I'm inquisitive. I was using 425's, hated their lack of tracking, switched to 180's and subsequently blew up.

Hello Tremere!
You can try eveinfo.com for mission info and for a background on all missions. It is not fully accurate, but very good overall, imo. I use it a lot for L4, especially when I switched from L3 to L4.
Considering your fitting: I do L1 to L3 in Minmatar ships with Autocannon loadout. But my experience is, that to be effective you need good skills, both in RL and in game. So until you have things like tracking, accelleration, energy control and the like up to good levels (say all Engineering stuff 4 and gunnery support 4) I'd stay with long range.

I checked out the eve-info site, but it was for the RMR patch. Eve-Survival had what I needed, or at least the mission details that matched the one I had. I'll use it from now on, because I'll be soloing a lot.

For missions, you're going to want artillery. While the tracking isn't great, it's harder to get close enough to use autocannons effectively except against mercenaries. Your best bet is artillery and an afterburner. Keep them at 15-25 km and you'll be doing great... that'll solve 90% of the tracking issues and if you aren't webbed, you'll outrun just about everything.

As a minmatar pilot you'll want good shield, drone and missile skills anyway. Flying Caldari during the time you get those (and dozens of other) support skills up to snuff is not a waste of SP, in my opinion.
Danger is carebearing up and flying nothing BUT caldari ships for a year or so.
Also, even level 1 and level 2s should pay plenty of ISK if you salvage. You can pull in over a million ISK for a level 1 mission vs Angels or Bloods/Sansha/Amarr. Don't bother looting or salvaging Guristas or Serpentis.

I always loot & salvage everything. I'm not leaving that mission until I've grabbed everything. That is why I'm relatively rich & can afford a dedicated Kronos salvager-take a leaf from my book grab everything because it's relatively cheap-the only factor is time cost-go get it!
The other issue is all the so called tec1 crap. Interestingly it is not crap because I reprocess it all & get loads of assorted minerals for building ammo which I then sell & use & that makes me even more ISK so I just win win & win.

Ok, so I bought a new Rupture and outfitted it as so. My engineering is at 4 and electronics is at 3 so I left a mid slot open until my electronics hits 4.
Lows: 400mm rolled tungsten named gyrostabilizer 2x rat specific energized hardeners EANM
Mid: named webifier named afterburner (empty)
High: 3x carbine howitzer I (carbonized lead) 3x heavy launcher I (scourge)
I tried it out in a mission and I only had to warp once to repair. That was because I started out using depleted uranium and frigs with rails were nailing me. I like the huge boost in range that the carb lead gives. Thanks again all.

This is not a PvE setup. Do not use plates on setups. Use a Medium Armor Repair instead. You will also want something to recharge your cap - cap booster or cap recharger II. ------------

Then you need Engineering V. Engineering V and Electronics V are not optional skills. They should be among the first two skills you train - on my later accounts (i.e. not my first one), those were the first skills I trained after the learning skills. They don't take that long, and they allow you to fit a ship somewhat decently. Further down the line, you want to get Weapon Upgrades V and Advanced Weapon Upgrades IV. Then you can really fit out a ship to the best extent practical. ------------

It all depends on what ship you are using as to when you need to train up engi/elec 5. Honestly if you go Caldari, you can roll a Drake and a Raven through level 3 and 4 missions just fine before you ever max out fitting skills. Other ships, however, have a hard time just fitting their guns if they don't have at least AWU4. It's not a bad idea to get fitting skills out of the way early, but it's more/less urgent depending on what you fly.

Also train to use drones, at least light scouts. Drones will take care of of frigs. Try fitting 720's and standard missiles. 720's will take care of frigs out at 30k +. When frigs get to close for 720's to hit, start using your missiles and drones. Before using drones wait until a pod targeting you is all blinking red before launching drones otherwise the npcs will start shooting your drones.

Drones are a must tbh when running missions and especially later in the game when your running lvl 4's/5's

I added a sensor booster to that setup on my rupture and it worked really well. Then, I decided to do some ratting in low sec, 0.4. That was profitable until I was forced into my first pvp experience of the game, against an HAC and another cruiser. Now, I need a new Rupture. lol
I'll be looking, myself, but does anyone have any suggestions for corporations, preferably a combat oriented one? My corp right now is extremely small, and I'm online more than the CEO, who is a nice guy, but doesn't get to play enough to run the corp.
