Not sure what constitutes 'really bad lag' but I had some problems in an engagement this morning at 00:47.
We (Gallente) had a fleet of about 70-80 ships, and a caldari fleet of similar numbers engaged us in Tama.
While waiting for them to jump onto us, everything was working fine. My client was responsive and I was getting about 80 fps, all the drones were out, lots of stuff flying around, no problems.
I had disabled all the effects (missile trails etc) from the graphics, minimised all the windows except fleet and overview and zoomed as far out as possible, (none of this seems to make any difference to frame rates, always shows 80 fps) gui is responsive if I activate something / target something I get instant feedback that something is happening.
Then the caldari fleet jump in on us.
This is when everything seems to go wrong. The client seems to slow down, I can't scroll the overview scroll bar anymore. Clicking on any icon at all has seemingly no effect on the gui whatsoever.
About 20 seconds later, the screen updates and I can see that some of the icons I clicked on have registered, I've targeted a few (of the wrong) ships activated some guns, my drones are off doing there own thing.
Wait another 20 seconds, and the screen updates again. My target has dissapeared and I try and select another (nothing), my gun icons are still flashing, not sure what to do there - activate them again ? or will that turn them off. I'm down to 70% armor so I turn on my reppers and call for armor (we have logistics)
Wait another 20 seconds .....
You get the idea. And here are my questions
1) This is lag right ? 2) Why has my client slowed down ? shouldn't it still allow me to drag windows about etc even if it's not recieving responses from the server ? 3) Can my internet connection not recieve the data quick enough (I pay for 21 Mb/s but I only actually get 4 - too far from exchange) 4) Is it the other end thats the problem (the CCP end) and not my connection at all ? 5) Is there anything I can do to stop this happening in 100 - 200 ship fleet engagements ? 6) Should I go back to the classic graphics - would this fix it ?
Also, we could really do with a FW forum.

Ace, I'm going to try all these things. Not much in my PC that can be upgraded unfortunately they don't do much better graphics cards or processors.
There were a few things mentioned I had not turned off - brackets, flashing local / fleet and revert to classic graphics.
I have recently started using the new overview tabs (PVP, PVP Travel, Drones et al) where previously I'd have to load the one I wanted - could this be slowing my client down too ?
