Seriously though Bl3ach, despite being a evil Minmatar, is actually in no way a script kiddie and actually takes his RP very seriously now.
He - like many others - created their accounts back in May 2003 - and he like many others had no idea that he would end up in a roleplay corp being quoted in the news.
I don't know what inspired him to put the '3' in his name but people shouldn't be excluded because of it (at least not until CCP can give us an option to make slight changes to names).
The news last night was an attempt by CCP to inject real in game events into the news and that should be welcomed by all who play this game - after all you never know when your own name will be put up in lights

I always think of the name "Bl3ach" as an alias.
Presumably, as an ebil terrorist, he wouldn't want people knowing his real name, as that could lead to reprisals against his relatives that are still slaves (not that I'm condoning such actions ).

I consider many names in this game, including mine, to be clearly callsigns, and not real names. And if someone wants his true name to stay unknown, and is only known by the callsigh l33t, so what?

Yeah, and if we look at the names of the House Champions during the Amarr championship we have Detaitiv, WarHound, Ecliptical, Shrike and Con'Mal.
Certainly breaks a few of the suggested "rules" on this thread...nothing new.

A million isk to anyone who can correctly guess where my name comes from (Raptus Regaliter crew disqualified for entry).
It's just a name - a callsign. News reporters don't choose to report on people because of their names.
I've seen sillier things in real life. Say, 'the artist formerly known as...' ...

Well, it could be after the explorer Oscar von Beringe, the first european to see mountain gorillas(which he then shot).

It may just be a name, so were all the names changed buy GMs and/or Devs for equally silly reasons. Must the silliness be encouraged by allowing leet-speak in the news? I, and many others, find "leet" names much more offensive than someone calling himself "Satan"(or whatever name he had before the Devs changed it to something pro-christian, lookup the thread if you're interested).
Nobody's seriously suggesting that certain types of names should be outlawed, or at least I'm not, but idiotic names should be left out of the news. If I had done something which warranted my name, or my corp's name being mentioned in the news and the writing staff felt it didn't fit in with the RP aspect, I'd have no problem with them using a different name, or referring to it as a "callsign".
The leet crap in the news just looks unprofessional, infantile and, as you said, silly.

I agree somwhat.
I agree l33tspeak is something that i dont like much.
Neither do I like furry people that eat sandwiches in yellowstone park.
It's got no bearing on the game.
Anyway, whomever decided that roleplay needs to make use of those middle-earth like silly named and words anyway.
It's not like the people of eve wouldnt have evolved since leaving the middle ages behind would they ?
Maybe l3et names are common in theEve universe, and were somewhat of a fad with ex-cons or something.
RP is about imagination, not about doing a bad accent or calling yourself Lord. Thats one thing I like even less.

Phew I held off from commenting on this thread, and I daresay I am going to wish I hadn't bothered, but we don't always manage to keep quiet when perhaps we should.
First thing, yes leet names do sometimes spoil the immersion with rp, and I have always found leet speak and the alternating caps thing varies from mildy amusing to intensely irritating, depending on the phases of the moon. ( or my moods hehe )
I think this criticism is just plain snobbery, it's not like one leet name mentioned in a single news article is going to destroy Eves RP reputation forever. Especially when that article actually focuses on an ingame RP event, it is actually promoting RP not detracting from it at all.
I think had these criticisms come from upstanding pillars of the RP community I might be a little more concerned, but as it stands I fail to see it as anything more than random venting.
