A dungeon has two corridors and at the end of each corridor there's a door. One door leads to freedom, the other one to the hangman. There are no markings on the doors. Outside of each door is a sentinel. One sentinel is always truthfull. The other one is a liar. There is one prisoner in the dungeon awaiting execution. The prisoner knows about the doors and the sentinels. In order to know what door leads to freedom he can ask only one question and he can ask only one sentinel. If he asks the right question he can choose the door of freedom once he knows the answer to his question.
What's the question?

I have read wrong answers, half right (= nice try) and correct answers.
Mainly it's all about asking a question to 1 sentinel about the other sentinel. Like fi. "ask the other sentinel if he's alone at the door". Trial and error will learn that you have 4 possible answers. Depending on the answer you will know what door to pick. In the case of this question don't go through the door where the guard gives you the "no" answer.

Originally by: Diana Merris I'm ashamed of you people! No one has mentioned that this was in a Tom Baker Doctor Who episode. The one with Sutehk the Destroyer the robot mummies.
This riddle is older than Dr. Who
