As announced earlier, we will install the new EVE Launcher with EVE Online: Crucible 1.5 on Tuesday, March 13.
You will be asked to download a small patch on Tuesday which will contain the Launcher. When that is done, the EVE Launcher will start and automatically update your client to the correct version and download the required data.
The EVE Launcher has several advantages over our previous approach. It saves the download progress in case of crash so you do not need to download the whole patch again, it displays useful information while updating your client, it easily allows patching of multiple clients in different folders although manual patches outside the launcher are no longer supported and, most importantly, it allows us to improve the login mechanism drastically in the future.

I am not sure if I am technically reliable enough to do the junction points listed, nor do I want to eat up that much drive space installing extra clients just to play multiple characters. No. You can launch multiple instances of the same install, just like you can today. The Launcher does not change that.

In the FAQ section of the EVElopedia on the new new installer, towards the bottom. I probably misread the meaning, but when I read it, it made me believe you wouldn't be able to run multiple characters with the same install. Here is the text I was talking about:

Say you have PuTTY make an SSH tunnel that points to TQ, then you tell the client to connect to localhost (and PuTTY forwards the connection to TQ). Since the client thinks it's connecting to a server other than TQ, it makes a new settings and cache folder with all the defaults and any changes you make go away when you connect directly. But if you make a junction point for the "localhost" server pointing to the one for TQ, then magically the settings you use when you happen to be connecting via a tunnel are shared with the ones you use when you connect directly. I gather Vista and Win7 (and of course Mac OS and Linux) also let you use symlinks to do the same thing.
But... you don't need multiple installs to run multiple clients, never mind junction points. I do just fine with one. Ceci n'est pas un sig. |

I use a Mac and have been unable to connect to Sisi since the launch of the launcher.
I haven't seen any reliable way to do it and am convinced that when the update launches tomorrow I will also be unable to run multiple clients.
I haven't seen any updated accurate information addressing this, if this is the case, I see a lot of people pretty upset that they can't multiclient. I know a lot of people that pay to run clients simultaneously and losing the ability to do it will be game changing.
Can you take the time to spell out how to do this for PC and mac and update the posts that describe the old, broken methods?
Seems like such a little thing.

I've got a question as well:

When I launch the old client from a shortcut pointing to a junction it downloads the patch and then fails with a python exception. If I launch from the "native" directory shortcut the installer seems to start up ok and it's now patching. |

Got my second client running with symlinks. Had to copy the Info.plist and PkgInfo from the updated main installtion to the cloned installation. Clients are starting but changing Info.plist as described in http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients#Duplicating_EVE_Online.app doesn't work anymore. It always uses the settings from the main installation. |

My bad, I have fixed the link now.
The info.plist for the client is deeper in now, it used to be in EVE Online.app/Contents/ but is now in EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/EVE Online.app/Contents
The first info.plist is for the launcher, the client now lives deeper within the package. CCP Gangleri | Senior Tester

You can open the Launcher by starting the Launcher shortcut in the client directory.

I start 8 separately installed clients with different settings all at once with a .bat file.
No junction points are not a solution, I found if I lose settings for one client I lost them for all hence the separate installs, I only lose one clients settings.
Admittedly that was several years ago that was happening so perhaps not an issue anymore.
How is the new installer going to know to patch each separate client and then start them?
And within the next two - three weeks it going to get worse. 10 clients on 5 networked computers. How is it going to manage that?
I have a feeling I'm going to spend longer getting Eve started than actually playing.
Oh, that's interesting, it just started 8 of the same client and cannot continue - only one updater can be running at a time, says I have to restart my computer. Amphetimines are your friend. |

We're aware of this defect, and should have a fix out soon. As a work-around, you can try removing any hyphens from the names of your secondary client directories.

I am curious to know what your user scenario is, do you have multiple installations on a single machine or is this about patching clients on more than one system?
If it's multiple clients on a single machine I'd really like to know why you do that, since the effort of patching one and then duplicating it (and editing the duplicate info.plist) seems less than saving a patch file and applying it to existing duplicates.

Launch client "there is a new pacth would you like to download it?"
Hit yes, watch the 3.68mb dl come down (guess thats the launcher)
Eve Online Update Setup starts to run ...
Gets to (6/7) Downloading patch: Initializing ....
and sits there, for about an hour now
PC is not hung I can do other stuff and Task Manager says that the "Eve Online Update Setup" is running (ie its not died to a non-responsive)
So what is it doing and why is it just sitting there ? |

My scenario is that I have six installations spread over four machines (OSX and bootcamped Windows), and I would prefer not to have a 150MB patch download turn into a 900MB downloadGǪ to say nothing of the near-gigabyte sizes that occur whenever you update or introduce large swaths of art assets. It's not really a matter of bandwidth or download caps (I have tons of the former and none of the latter), although I could imagine that it's an issue for some GÇö it's mainly a matter of time and convenience.
If I can download the patch once per OS and then distribute it on my home network at far higher speeds than what I get from your servers over the internet, it just makes things easier for everyone involved: I download it once and install everywhere in parallel (or at any convenient time) without choking my connection. I haven't done the install on Windows yet, so I'm only assuming that the wiki is correct in how you can export and import patches, but the option is just not there in the OSX client, and I'm wondering if/when it will beGǪ GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

Ahhh nice! I see what you did there for the cloned version. Instead of launching the Launcher you start EvE directly. Nice nice.
But i was to lazy to change it by hand and used EVE Clonemaker instead. All working as intended. Thanks.

That's a fair point. We will aim at having this supported on the Mac in the near future. In the meantime the workaround would be to patch one client and then put that client on a USB key and move that between your Macs or send it over the network. What you could also do is navigate into the bundle and find the .patch file and manually copy that around. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

This is a bit tricky, but i have a workaround for you
1. Run the repair.exe in you client folder. Let it update your client. 2. to start eve online, run ExeFile.exe that is inside the client bin folder instead of eve.exe

Any suggestions beyond dump the existing folders and re-download the whole Eve client? |

I would like to ask a dev this question about the launcher.
Cause as it stands right now, it became quite the hassle to launch multiply clients for us who has quite a handfull of accounts, which I find a bit annoying that moving forward you make it more annoying to do, so my question would be, is it possible to make it so you can tell the launcher to open X clients at once when you press play ? so we avoid having to wait for client 1 to open, then tap back to launcher, wait for client 2 to open tap back, ect, cause it's getting quickly on my nerves that this process now takes over twice the time it did before the launcher. |

So far the launcher seems to cope with all that just fine (each instance is launched with its separate cache and settings as intended).
One thing I was wondering about though are the client updates. Currently each instance of the same client prompted for an update separately (this is *after* client is started by the "Play" button in the launcher). Is this the case just this time (what with swiching over to use the launcher and all) or will these keep being rolled out the same way in future updates as well?

There is solution. It is more complicated than just suing simple Junction on NTFS. If someone create second, 3rd etc. copy of installation EVE folder it will make comon place with settings for all shared clients. This common place leads into shared cache and setting for all instances.
Here is my working solution:
- I have one installation folder
- I make separate directory for each other client (I do have 6)
- I do link files from other clients into installation directory
- I do link common folders from other clients into installation directory
- I do have separate folder in each client for settings. This avoid shared config.
- I do launch eve with command line switches to not store configuration in profile via eve.exe /end /LUA:OFF
here is directory structure

I have file space occupied only once and I'm able keep fully separated settings for each client instance installed. I keep settings not in profile on computer, so I can move to another computer by just moving "eve_base_folder". I need to patch only once. BTW it works with new Launcher 1.5 without any changes. |

These forums too. I know you said you had problems earlier, but I'm still getting the dreaded "We were ganked" message more often than not and I am pretty sure I have an old 300baud modem somewhere which gets better speeds.

This will continue to be the case until we've migrated the "Client Update" functionality into the Launcher, which is near the tippy-top of our roadmap . |

I've great problems with my antivirus software and new launcher. When launcher is being updated my antivirus software answers me more than twenty five times if i want the eve launcher updated O_O
It's frustrating, i've to deactivate my antivirus for updating eve client. I've tried and used other games launchers before and i haven't any problems. |

Do you mean that after you click Play, stays open and doesn't close? If so, go into the settings menu for the Launcher and have a look at the startup options in there. There is an option to make it close after clicking Play.

Then open the EVE folder, and move the .patch file you will find in there out of that folder. Then you will be able to open it.

After a series of tries to update to the new launcher, which never worked, I uninstalled EVE client and downloaded the offline installer.
After everything installed I opened EVE and it started to update something, which gave me the following error:

I saw some guy had this same issue, but on step (6/7).
EDIT: Posting this seemed to solve the issue. As soon as I clicked post it finished the 4th step. Although it is going awfully slow for a 3 Mbit download. Has anyone else been having this issue? |

Close all clients, first one starts patching, clients 2, 3 & 4 crash because only 1 patcher can run at a time 8. Client 1 downloads 22Mb patch 9. Client 1 installs patch and starts launcher 10. Launcher downloads 167Mb patch and installs it 11. Luckily I've read the forums and found I can export patch, so export patch to "Eve Patches" folder 12. Close client 1 launcher 13. Start client 2, it says patch has already been downloaded so restart and it starts patching. 14. Client 2 downloads the same 22Mb patch client 1 downloaded 15. Client 2 installs patch and starts launcher 16. Launcher starts downloading 167Mb patch again 17. Quickly jump to tools menu and import patch, this interrupts the download and installs the patch 18. Close Launcher 19. Repeat steps 13-18 for clients 3 and 4 20. Launcher works fine for me, though once in the game I cant do any thing. It seems that the gui is not loading or something. Tried it twice and got to jump system with one of my characters (I am running two clients) and lost all ability to interact with the game. Overview not updating or chat windows, no right click menus, nothing, I cant even ship spin in space which I am sure I have mastered with all the gcc timers I have waited out. EVE is basically a screen saver at this moment for me. Will try to re-install things when I have the free time. I hope, because I haven't seen any other post like this that nobody else is having this issue. But none the less I figured I would mention it. |

First of all, thanks for writing extremely detailed step by step feedback!
This is how it will be for future patches. The one patching to the new Launcher was more complicated because we needed to download the Launcher itself:
If you have unlimited high speed connection:
1. Start client 1,2,3,4 2. Let them download and apply patch 3. Click Play on client 1,2,3,4
If you want to use import/export patches
1. Start client 1 2. Launcher starts and downloads and applies the patch 3. Go to settings 4. Click Export 5. Open client 2,3,4 6. Go to Settings for client 2,3,4 7. Click Import 8. Let it apply the patch 9. Play. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

Drahcir You, also, are doing it wrong. What's with everyone having separate installations?
Before launcher: 1. Launch eve, see there is patch, click "Update" 2. Client downloads patcher, patcher closes client and starts patching process 3. Patching finishes, launch 4 instances of EVE (the same installation with separate settings/cache files)
After launcher: 0. Configure launcher to NOT show itself unless a patch is available AND close itself after launching the client (2 tickboxes in "Startup" tab of launcher, needs to be done only once) 1. Patching finishes, launch 4 instances of EVE (the same installation with separate settings/cache files)
Nothing changed. If anything it got easier (plus the new launcher provides a lot of room for future improvements). Multiple installations only make sense for cases where multiple computers are used. Assuming you are using all clients on the same computer, please read this on how to fix yo sh*t  |

The launcher looks a lot like City of Heroes launcher. Did you not learn after the bullshit with NEX that just because somebody else is doing something that is not a good enough reason for you to jump from the bridge as well ? There was nothing wrong with the way I used to start it up IMHO.  |

I'm experiencing an issue similar to Aronfly's.
When I run the Launcher, it automatically opens the window "EVE Online Update Setup" which proceeds to step "(3/7) Downloading recipes: 100%..." It then executes patch_win.exe which errors out. The contents of the patch_win.exe.log are:

My complaint hasn't been attended to. So I'll just leave this point out. "Don't fix something that ain't broke." There are plenty of things that could be fixed in EvE from overview bugs to ship balancing, but I have never seen a complaint on the EvE launcher previously in place. All this new launcher has caused is a massive flood of complaints and people not able to start their game. |

Also posted in the 'workaround' sticky thread but figured it might be worth posting here as well....
If it helps any, I was getting all the problems with the patch not working and the repair tool failing as well but found a fix it seems.
My Eve client was in the Program Files (x86) directory so I moved the whole folder to a root folder on another disk and ran the repair tool again - all now seems good! I suspect I could have just put it in a root folder on the C drive as well.
Perhaps this is related to the (x86) thing being 64 bit Windows ?
I hope this helps someone else get out of the annoying hole that I was in

As of 23:57 GMT we released a new Launcher and a new repair tool to resolve some issues that players have been experiencing during the initial deployment of Crucible 1.5.
Those of you experiencing issues with the Launcher or updating the game, please follow these steps:
1.Reboot the computer. 2.Navigate to the EVE client install folder. 3.Run the Repair tool until it finshes. 4.Run eve.exe from the same folder
We ask people to reboot their computer to make sure that there are no locked files or other processes running while running the repair tool. This would otherwise interfere with the repair tool and prevent the client from updating.

edit: repairing it didnt fix it directly, but gave me the option to repatch the mini patch or something which brought all my settings back.
Seriously whats the point of a launcher, if all the mini patches are on the actual client itself still? That was the annoying part of the every 2nd day patching -_- |

What version of the Launcher are you running? The latest version is 1.08 and should have this issue resolved.

Also, it may be incidental or coincidental, but when I attempted to download the full client, the 3.7 MB installer downloaded, then errored out attempting to download the main packages and opened the manual download page. I was able to download the .7z packages manually.
Finally, please fix your forum html-checking code. Just because there are a pair of angled brackets ( > and < ) with text between them (like what gets generated in your program logs), that doesn't make it html. At the least, fail silently and replace the brackets with < and > tags. |

The resetting of settings is an issue we're looking into and in the meantime we have removed the 1.08 update which would support various characters in the path name and cyrillic and making sure that the settings menu still works and various locking issues.
We're holding off on the update for now while we investigate the settings issue.

sadly it seems CCP stopped supporting the MAC client with the crucible release. Not officially ofc, not that the mac client didn't have issues before, but since the crucible release EVE ist simply unplayable on a mac. So the only solution left for you seems to install Windows, as have I :( (Performance is a lot beter anyway, especially when running multiple clients) |

It seems that issue you are getting is corrupted data when you attempt to download. There can be multiple causes for this:
- Antivirus or firewall blocking the download
- Router fireware out of date and causing the download to drop packets
- Bad connection to the internet
- Corruption of the data on the CDN (Content Delivery Network) that hosts the file you are trying to get
It would be helpful if you could have a look at the three first options and if you don't find any problems, I would suggest that you contact customer support, by filing a petition, who will ask you from where you are connecting, what ISP you're using so that we can send this data to our CDN provider.

Let's see the pros of the launcher
1. You can download and install updates without having to start up the memory hogging client multiple times. 2. There are readily available links to various webpages 3. You can get a quick glimpse of the server status 4. You can view latest updates and events 5. Easily change your language (important for our friends abroad)

1. You have to take one extra click in order to start up the game (should you enable it) 2. The settings menu for the launcher is a little out of sight. 3. Default settings are funky
That's about all I can think of and all of them can be easily corrected or are a non issue once you get used to it. Are people just complaining for the sake of complaining or are there any legitimate reasons as to why people hate this thing? I had no trouble installing it and running it and I'm using Windows Vista for crying out loud!
So what's really going on here?
1. They didn't make a popup window telling us about the settings screen where the launcher can be disabled except for patches. -- this caused a lot of grief. 2. Many people lost their saved settings -- this is associated with the launcher now. 3. We still have client updates -- separate from the launcher... meh. 4. no love for multiple client folks. 5. This update took a long time. Not sure if the patch was this big or what, but the long download time is going to be associated with the launcher.
what could they have done differently?
1. realized settings were going to be lost and make sure that didn't happen. 2. rolled out the launcher by itself -- short patch -- fast update associated with new launcher. 3. let launcher to client updates too! 4. let launcher update multiple client installations at the same time. 5. Point out the cool feature in the client settings -- so that people who dislike the current default will realize it can be changed.
launcher isn't the problem.
It's the execution and delivery that are -- once again -- the problem.

I have been unable to play eve since the launcher update was pushed. When updating I received an error stating "An error has occurred" it then game me the location of a dump file (I did not record where)
I then tried running repair.exe --> Quote:"Errors Occurred see....."
Here is the dump from the repair file, this looks similar if not exactly the same as the error for the Eve update-

I have complete removed eve from my computer, and re-downloaded and re-installed it. I have received all the same errors after it tried to update with the launcher.
I now get the following errors when using eve.exe -->

I get the following when trying the launcher-

Apparently there is a problem here. I have done all the usual troubleshooting steps, I even did a directory dump of an Incarna Installation I had on my laptop to receive the same error as it tried to update to the launcher instead of Crucible.
I am running- Win 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

If you are playing computer games using a Mac then you are doomed to failure anyway. The most powerful GFX card you can get in a Mac is about a year behind the PC. The price/performance ratio of all mac's are shocking. Hope you wake up, smell the silicon, and get a PC before you rage too hard. I however have a PC and I'm able to DL the launcher, use the launcher to DL the patch then click on the play button. The splash screen comes up and......Nothing. |

I have 3 seperate EVE folders, I got on EVE earlier today just fine. Now the first I launched gave a quick loading bar and updated, then started client. 2nd client DID give me the loading bar but refuses to launch client, I can't access this client at all not with eve.exe nor with launcher.exe . The third client won't do anything at all.

Me having same problem. Guy asked long ago about THAT problem and i could not find any answer.
REBOOT PC, RUN REPAIR... dear Cascade your instructions does work.
Please respect your Customers and don't realise so not quality products in future which just waste time of your clients. Reading 3 hours all these forums how to run payable program is really low level for developers and your company.
My system is Win7 32, i got uninstalled old data, and reinstalled EVE client from new fresh download. still nothing lauches, getting same log from reapir.exe - 'an error occurred-view repair.log ' here screen
Can anyone link/point me how to run this game? |

Ha, I got the same issue on XP sp3, Mind you I was logged on with a user account, used the "run as" to install using the admin account. Fail. Logged on as admin, ran the repair as instructions reported, fail. Cleared out the temp folder from %admin account%\local settings\temp. Ran repair again, fail. Cleared that temp folder again, ran eve.exe, success. Updated exe fine, downloaded 140 odd MB in the process. Logged off admin and back on as user, game runs fine.
Next issue, in game: I guess the DEVs find it funny messing around with the Neocom. Warped to customs office in workhole with a Bustard, Drop off TII product and pick up a load of expensive TIII product, time spent at Customs, 2 seconds, go to warp back to POS.... WTF, who fracked up the NEOCOM!!!, Made emergency warp to anywhere and figure it out on the way. This is not the only messup I have come across after a large update. Why do they do this? |

I experience a problem with the new patch since this morning. Before the implementation of the new Launcher i could run 5 clients without a problem on my computer from a single Installation of Eve. Now if I start more than 2 accounts my computer acts as if i have used the RESET button, the monitor turns black and the next thing i see is the BIOS startup menu...computer boots again. This has never happend before.
I was suspiciouse if maybe some hardware was broken (incidentially), so i started a lot of programms/games to push the system resources to the max. For over an hour my system was stable, but starting Eve again led to a crash with more that 2 accounts running at the same time.
Tried repairtool procedure like announced, does not help.
My System: WIN XP 32 4GB RAM (3584 MB usable) DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo, 2666 MHz Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (512 MB)

I've got this problem too. Win 7 64. Fails to install launcher, says run repair. I run repair, it says there is an update available. If i click yes, i get the same message as installing the patch. If i click no, repair runs for 15 minutes and then returns an error. What the F*** CCP just by downloading a patch you kill me eve client. I just resubed today so I can start my training cue, and now I can't even do that! Petition this ****, I want 24 extra game time. |

This is a nightmare of an update. You guys are really doing it wrong.
I have 3 clients on which i run eve online
The first one i install this on is a laptop at work that does not start up or open anything after the patching is complete. I only see a black screen and that is the end of it I have to CTRL-ALT-DELETE it to get my laptop back working again This morning the launcher started by downloading an update and then crashed again after launching the program All i see is a black screen of nothing
I have installed the new launcher om my second system, that did manage to start up but only to find the client to be EXTREMELY slow (on a VERY good PC) and after setting all the graphic details to an absolute minimum i get some performance out of it
The third computer i have installed the new launcher on just downloaded the new launcher and then nothing happened I saw the launcher window, but the progress indicator bar did not start for 15 minutes I have reset the computer and restarted the eve client and only received the error message that i will paste under this message This is actually on a 8 core, 8GB memory, full SSD machine that is probably the fastest around on the consumer market at the moment. It just crashes horribly
Now guys, pleas don't give me that S**T about me having to re-download the whole program, adjusting my settings etc... etc... and your whole arrogant attitude of "our clients are doing it wrong" I actually am CEO / CTO of a large internet company and currently in charge of a large scale IT department. I know what i am talking about when it comes to releasing updates / new software
Releasing stuff that manages to crashes 3 different machines is a major error and a very very very good example of failing programmers / coding.
Working like this is an insult to your loyal customers that already have to put up with crashing servers, time dilation, captain quarters that NOBODY want etc.. etc..
Managment at CCP, take up your responsibility and reorganise your company. Roll back this error and use your common sense. Don't let your IT department be so powerfull that it can ruin your business.

downloaded the patch and then eve stalled while patching. I waited 15 min and then had to force quit. the app. Now starting the Eve Online app, gives this message from OSX: "You can't open the application EVE Online because it may be damaged or incomplete."
So what can I do now to solve this, there is no repair tool on the mac client? can i re-download the patch and rerun it? and how?
A re-download of the whole client app is out of the question for me. I have no broadband from where i live now. Thanks if you can help.

Yesterday, after crucible 1.5, i got the same problem, but then i've read this post from CCP Mandrake:
This is a bit tricky, but i have a workaround for you
1. Run the repair.exe in you client folder. Let it update your client. 2. to start eve online, run ExeFile.exe that is inside the client bin folder instead of eve.exe
Then i could play eve again... But today, after your "fix" (fail) patch this workaround doesn't work and i can't play the game at all... Nice work :)

After patching i keep getting 'The update has been downloaded. The client will now close and the update process begin. Press 'OK' to continue.' message. When i click OK patcher process starts, patches the client, launches the launcher. When i click play I get 'The update has been downloaded...' message message and so on. Tried launching exefile directly - no effect. Tried using repair tool - no effect. Tried deleting eve.exe and exefile.exe and then using repair tool - no effect.
The same on second computer.... Did I mention that everytime this happens the launcher settings are reset? I just hope my boot.ini file is safe... |

The launcher is having issues with having another launcher running with this build.
Updated sisi left the launcher running and then started to update TQ's launcher and it locked up.
Launcher verson 1.0.4 loaded and launched side by side yesterday
Launcher worked slow but worked after closing both the launcher and sisi client.

Hi, please give the following a try:
1. Download http://cdn1.eveonline.com/350962/EVEOnlineLauncherInstaller.exe
2. Run the EVEOnlineLauncherInstaller on the folder where you have EVE Installed.
3. Start the eve.exe.
This tool will update the Launcher to the correct version. Please let us know if this makes you able to start the Launcher after applying this.
If you then get a new error when running the Launcher, please let us know what that error is.

I downloaded the pact and the eve-online application stopped responding after the patching. Is there some guidelines for us Mac users to how to clean, re-patch etc... Now all seems dead, stating the app says: "You can't open the application EVE Online because it may be damaged or incomplete."
Can some dev people chime in, I won't be able to re-download the 5GB installer. This is not possible with the internet in the place where i live now. I could but it would take 2-3 days. |

ran eve yesterday, done update, got launcher for the new update, update done, launch eve nothing happens, only in task manager I see cmd.ece and conhost console from launcher, rebooted system, ran old repair tool as new one only download but does not run, no errors found, ran eve again this time no launcher no splash screen no game, copied the game from other computer where it is working, launchers shows up but still no game, uninstalled all eve and romoved anything related to eve, rebooted, downloaded the 3 files from website as the installer from the game gave me error ( by that time I was completely pissed off) ran the downloaded installer, game installed, run eve nothig happens again
so now what?
my suggestion remove the stupid launcher as imo there is no addon to the game
everytime ccp does an update something gets broken this is getting a little pissed off now |

yep same here nothing happening when I press start I see eve crucible 1.5 splash screen then that goes away and launcher is back only thing i see in task manager is cmd.exe and conhost.exe no game what so ever |

I run 3 instances of EVE at times, so I have 3 install folders for EVE.
I did the update for the first one, it downloaded the initial data, and just before the launcher was supposed to do its thing, I got an error message saying "Operation system could not be found", seriously?
I closed whatever was open and started again, this time it did nothing, just an 'Incompatible protocol' message. So I cleared the cache and started again, but with the 2nd instance and it went through with no problems.
So yeah, clear your cache before you start the update, end clear it afterwards. All you need is for one instance to work, and then you just copy that instance over the others and you don't need to go through all that hassle trying to update again.
And of course, in the launcher Settings option, select to have it run only when updating.
Best practise would be to always keep an updated copy of the EVE install folder as a backup, if the update corrupts your installation beyond repair, you have a fresh copy to try again.

I started my client about 6 hours after DT on patch day, the launcher was installed and I followed all on screen prompts, only to have the launcher stop at 15%, skip to 25% and then stop.
I ran the repair tool immediately, which downloaded the patch for me, then started her up again and OMG it was ready to play, up to date with a shiney big orange play button before me.
I clicked on play......nothing, no process in my task manager, nothing.
Ran repair again, no change, deleted cache and local folders, cleared browser cache, restarted pc, made sure everything else was closed, still same problem......sent ticket, no reply, no problem, hell you guys must be hell busy with this problem.
Came home today, tried again, launcher then tried a new patch straight off, made me happy, got my hopes up, but then gets to 15%, skips to 25% and then restarts continuously.
I have tried repair function, nothing happens. I also have eve on my laptop and my gf's pc, none of which can seem to get past same issue, every pc has an individual installed copy of eve, no copy paste happening here.
I have tried everything mentioned before, I also do not want to spend more than 3 months subscription redownloading this again and have tried everything I can think of.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and the laptop and main pc are high end, fully updated, windows 7 64, gf's pc is decent and XP. |

I run three clients simultaneously and before this have never had a problem on highest settings (even in CQ, my graphics card stayed frosty ) but now anything in-game seems to be chugging. I've never had to bother with junctions but could if it would actually help ... it's the fact that it is a new issue with the patch that worries me.
Running Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit.

Is your issue similar to this? Maybe try to disable PhysX or set it to CPU processing? |

Seems like most in that thread are running NVidia, whereas I'm using an ATI Radeon 5700 series. My CPU is under no strain staying at 10-15% load and memory at 70%, so I'm guessing what I'm seeing is a strain on my graphics card though. The release of the launcher seems like an unlikely thing to have caused such a large increase in GPU requirements though.  |

i spent hrs to dl FULL client of 349998 on 13th, reinstalled, updated the crap launcher to 1.09 and building patch loop @ 15%. then i went dl'ing full 350962, and found on download page now a full 351447!?

I'm also stuck in a loop each downtime, I have to completely reinstall eve each day for it to work, then in the morning after downtime the launcher does to a loop at 25% and I have to reinstall again. Same error message the other person had that ends with zsync. No idea what the issue is but would like an answer. |

i was having the exact problem with the looping thing until i read this post about the NOD32 AV issue.. good catch on that.. now im back in... now CCP don't go patting yourselves in the back .. this thing should have NOT been launched with all these bugs.. I have wasted enough of my day off time in the past 3 days figuring out how to make the %$#@ing patch work... CCP should figure this out NOT us users... that said.. enough of the rant and back into my tengu for some fun |

Had same problem, launcher keeps resetting at 25% and gets into a loop from that point. This was after updating my NOD 4.0.467.0 to the newer 5.0 version. Ive tried several thing i read on this forum, none helped. Only after doing a system restore to a version without the new NOD ( but with the old NOD 4) all seems to work fine again. Didnt need to reinstall eve at all. Running 2 seperate eve dirs on a win 7 64 enterprise system btw. Hope this helps some of u.

When I try and launch the updater (Windows 7-64) it gives me the error "The EVE launcher cannot update a directory from which processes are running. Please close the following process: launcher.exe"
Similarly, if I try to run the repair tool it gives me an error message saying "The repair tool found the following process running in the folder it is trying to repair: "d:\program files [data]\eve\repair.exe". You must close this process before continuing with the repair.
So, it will only let me run the launcher if I don't run the launcher. And it will only let me run the repair tool if I don't run the repair tool. *sighs*

I get the same thing goes up to 25% then back to 0 .. been doing this now for 2 days. I have tried the repair tool that says failed.. and downloaded a seperate launcher.. which did the same.. WTF is NOD? I put a petition in and have heard zilch from gm's I dont expect this when paying for a game. I just dont understand the thought proccess when releasing this 'launcher' surly one would put some sought of manual patch just in case the damn thing does not work? *sigh* |

Launcher freezes, reinstall does nothing for me. I got past the launcher once, thats it. I cancelled my accts at this point simply because I dont see them offering any solution. Been working on this for 3 days now. Every other program works fine, except eve. I'm not in a position to buy a whole new system to solve whatever they did.
Honestly, I'm pretty disappointed in CCP. If you can't handle something like this then how is Dust going to turn out? Come up with a solution or lose a customers. Simple as that. |

Still having some issues with the launcher myself.
As far as patching...didnt have major issues getting it to work. Only time was on the original launch day.. i kept getting very similar errors to what others were getting, only if i tried to interact with the launcher during patching. If i were to click on a link, it would throw an error.. if i left it alone during the patch process.. it chugged happily along. It apparently wants to be left alone while working. I am even using ESET.. never had any issues with it ever.. nothing with it blocking downloads/etc w/ the launcher and patch. I do leave it in "interactive" mode as far as firewall access goes.. so i think i do remember having the patch download failing intially.. then the req for access came up.. i allowed, and restarted the patch download and it worked. Since launch day, havnt had any issues with any of the patches since.
There are some other oddies about the launcher even w/ the 1.11 update that dont seem right. Links still do not work.. they still open a blank IE window and IE is updated. Iv noticed by clicking and dragging the links off the launcher onto the desktop.. they do create internet url link files.. and the url thats saved in the file comes out like this " launcher:openurl:https://secure.eveonline.com/" Although IE doesnt show anything in the URL bar when it opens.. i suspect its trying to process these other tags which dont relate to opening a web page.
And, every time you click play.. in the task manager, the launcher apparently starts cmd.exe (32b) and conhost.exe (64b), per each click of the play button. So if you want multiple accounts, these stay running in the background while each respective exefile.exe is running, even after the launcher is closed. This doesnt need to happen... the old eve launcher (which i believe just made sure the exe file and config files were viable) would load, and apparently just call the exefile.exe directly. I can get around this just by running exefile.exe as many times as needed for # of clients wanted.
Running client in regular or as admin make no difference from what iv seen.

Glad I decided to look at the forums before setting up my five accounts from scratch. Seeing this post, I just rebooted the launcher and everything was back to what it should be.

I've problems when the launcher itself is updated, i've to deactivate my antivirus software for updating this launcher. Once the launcher is updated i can update EvE client with my antivirus software active, so, the problem is the launcher. I've tried dozens of application, game launchers and i never have any problems with my antivirus.
This is very frustrating

Yes we all have the same problem cose every time you,ve launch the game there is a new problem (From the List) So download to the same % etc. + "My Launcher" doesn't tolerate 64bit system that i was runing all this time WORKING VERSION of EVE.

Yes I am using NOD32 all the time, but i used to yesterday older version 4 and this night I try install new NOD32 version 5 and from that time I can't patch, so it is possible, that this is problem with NOD32 version 5... but just disable protection didn't help. Try uninstall now, i will put information after that. |

I got a reply from Eurosecure (manufacturers of NOD and ESET) today:

Just an addittion to my earlier post.. I am using version 5 of the Eset security suite.. and I have been able to get the newest of EvE patches to download through the launcher. I do have protocol filtering "on".. yet, the launcher is given access through the firewall. So for me the launcher does correctly download, update, and can run EvE. The IE links still do not work, and the launcher still runs other unnecessary exe's, (cmd.exe and conhost.exe) when starting clients. Those are my only issues with the launcher.
To help others with Eset, either go into your firewall settings and add in the launcher, and/or just go into the protocol filtering, and dont turn off all of it, just have the launcher excluded from it.. or like I am, be in "training/learning" mode.. so the system will prompt for access out for the launcher, and when that happens, click the option to make it a "rule", that way it remembers the launcher and will then allow it to download the patch.

For me is only strange think, that I am using ESET 5 only Antivirus. For firewall I use standard windows. So in this should be everything ok and everything working, but not.
Solution for me: Uninstall ESET 5 Antivirus
Anyway I try complete uninstall ESET 5 Antivirus and after that all working perfectly. On my personal computer I can't patch game and now everything working. On my ntb I have ESET 5 Antivirus too and when I try update launcher, it says, that this program is no compatible with x64 system. After unistall ESET everything works perfetly too.
But I am not sure, if Antivirus has some filter or exception for concrete program, so for now I try install again ESET version 4 and I will see, if this working. |

Il try that already and it doesn't work.after doing step by step of what they say there was no change at all....And i really don't wana uninstall the NOD cose i have no other alternative.And i have no money for KASPERSKY and thouse two are the safest for me...I don't want to risk it just for this game...The way i see it is up to CCP to fix that. |

I can see now that what ever i do,starting the game,trying to use repair tool the main error in my case ends up with the 64bit error....I already reinstall the game twice,of course manually cose some how it doesn't want to download it.Evereything just crash after this really -----not necessary---- LAUNCHER.So maybe some one has other idea than the rest,a logic one.Cose right now im dead in the water.And my 1867 laptop can't handle the game.And im really glad i have it cose i can set the skills.

The launcher window appears to have numerous links to things such as Power of 2, Buddy Program, Patch Notes, Plex, Launcher Info, etc. Are these just place holders for items to be added at some future time or are they supposed to work now?
All I get when I click them is a new blank window with a 'Connecting...' caption. Nothing else happens, no matter how long I leave the window open. |

But it worked fine last week, it's YOUR launcher that is causing the problem.
My skill finished 2 days ago, there is NO workaround that works for me, downloading the full client is NOT an option, I am on 5gb/m metered internet, and feel free to check my account, my subscription period ends on the 23rd, if I'm not up and running by then, from YOUR problems, then I will not be up and running at all, period.
And even your link to NOD support leads to "This page is invalid.", GG. |

OK, as per my original post, this problem has now persisted, I replied to the ticket I opened, only to be told my file that I attached did not arrive, so I have now resent it.
The issue is I had a buddy come over and I copied a selection of files from him which fixed it, then eve worked!!!! Patch day on Tuesday, log in on Wednesday, guess what....same issue, skips to 25% then restarts.
Now I am waiting for GM and have not seen a very helpful reply here either.
1) I do not use NOD or ESET, I use AVG, which I have disabled and even removed.
2) I have 3 computers at home able to play eve, the laptop and my one desktop are 64 bit windows 7 and the other desktop is windows XP, all fully up to date.....
3) I am getting tired of not being able to play, skill queues will be running out again and I will need to ask someone in my corp to log into my account to update them......
4) There is no real helpful reply for me since my last forum post about 1 or 2 pages back.
I know CCP has a crap load of work to do, I do think the launcher is a great idea, but at the same time, a bit of customer support would be appreciated.
ps. I have tried every single thing that has been mentioned in this thread and several others. |

so laucnher patch today and with every client i patch and then boot up, it has its settings reset to the default one. i then have to click the eula agreement close and relaunch the client.

im not any type of computer guy or anything i'm just a person who would love to play on the test server during the down times of eve life as we all know getting the test server on your computer takes some time might i suggest if its not to difficult to link the servers through the new launcher having one button for the test server and one for tranquility. once again i'm not a computer guy but this adaptation might be good. and would make peoples lives easier to access the server especial for people who use apple rather then pc |

This is not optimal but EvE Launcher is a reliable application , and after the updating the eve.exe'll be scanned by the antivirus when it'll be executed. |

I hate on launcher only one thing. I am using multiple accounts and before launcher I can click on eve.exe icon multiple times fast in row and the clients start automatically one by one. Now even when I check option "only display the launcher window, when there is update" the EVE client starts throw launcher, so I must wait, when first client is started and after that I can start another client... if I click for start another client during splash screen, I get obviously alert "multiple instances of the launcher cannot be run from the same directory. This instance will now close."
Resolution will be probably multiple copy of eve directories, but this is really not good solution. |

I don't have a problem with the launcher. I think it works pretty good.
I just find point 3 a slight issue. Firstly, isn't the launcher kind of like a splash screen anyway? It seems a bit silly to have the splash screen right after seeing the launcher. Secondly, the way it was before was great. If I was using another application before starting Eve I could just click on it and bring in to the front again. Is the change really necessary? Thirdly, obviously this is only a problem for people who use Eve in window mode. Maybe just have it so the splash screen stays on top of everything when in full-screen mode?
At the very least, it would be nice if there was an option in the launcher to disable the splash screen?
It's not that much of a big deal. I'll survive with it, the way it is. Thought a few comments/suggestions wouldn't hurt.

i have 1 issue with this new launcher/patcher thing. i live in australia where our internet download limits are small, mine is 3gb of download per month, with the old patch system, i could get my ISP to upload the patch to there servers so we could download it without it affecting our download limits, this launcher/patcher **** is gunna make people like me, go over there download limits super easy on big patch days, i vote to bring back the old way of patching back so we can get our ISP's to mirror it.
