This is a sincere post.
I think CCP is the best game company I have come across in a long time. I'm reading around these forums - not posting much - and seeing around almost every corner someone ranting about how much CCP sucks. Well I beg to differ and encourage those that blow the horn about CCP being jerks that are just collecting money to step back and analyze some facts.
Tranquility is the largest game server in existence. CCP brings expansions very often. CCP is the most pro-active when it comes to fixing problems of any other game company I know. Our requests and ideas shape this game, it's not all about what the company dreams, it's our dreams coming true too! They handle the game and helping subscribers with a small dose of dry wit that helps put a smile on you when you weren't expecting it. Place for the dohnuts in the pod? That's still gold. Stepping out to find a bush? Funny!
Complaints against CCP? (These are just the ones I've been exposed to)
Problem: "They gave that [Band of Brothers] guy a blueprint, and that's not fair" My Response: well first, life isn't fair, second - it's all better now and the person giving out candy to the most powerful alliances has been dealt with. The rest of CCP flies right.
Problem: "Servers crash 'ALL TEH' TIYM!" My Response: You try and code this beast. When servers crash I've heard of game administrators getting up in the middle of their night so we can keep playing video games through ours. MMO servers crash - that's what they do. In my experience Eve has crashed the least out of all the MMO's I've played over time.
Problem: ôMy boot.ini was pwned and now my computer is screwedö My Response: Oh my boot.ini was æpwnedÆ too and my computer still booted.
"They should use their manpower not to improve graphics - but to fix bugs!" àDifferent engines, different people.
This post was not designed to search for problems that I have not addressed. I want to find out if there is anyone left in the world of Eve that is still engulfed in wonder of this space based world. (I'm just starting my 3rd year)
Any CCP lovers still out there? There must be some, you still play Eve!

Need to be careful with compliments here, we don't want the devs to get too lazy and comfortable In all seriousness, when I joined up for beta 5 years ago I felt this was kinda different than everything that had been tried before. The potentials were amazing already. I mean we just had frigs and our imagination at the start, and I had a frigging logbook where I would write down routes (it doesn't get much more nerdy than this eh?). And now over time, a lot of the potential has been unleashed. Decisions have been made and a lot of the 'magic' from the beginning seems lost, titans are actually here and not just talked about in legends and stories, etc. It's like when you're reading a good book, and then the movie for it comes out: most of the time you imagined it differently while reading, and thus you are disappointed no matter how good the movie might be to people who never read the book. So yes, many things could be better. Many things 'could' have been done differently. But the way it is now, it's an amazing, complex universe waiting for new players, all on ONE single server. And CCP just blows away the competition in terms of customer support and actually 'listening' to player requests. Believe me, you won't find a single other MMO company who is so dedicated to what they are doing, and so involved in their community.
Got carried away there... anyway, word to the wise: keep refining the game, keep improving on the things that are not-so-well-implemented-yet, keep improving on the IMMERSION which is the single most important thing to eve for me. Fine-tuning pvp mechanics is one thing, but taking a step back and looking at the overall experience is necessary as well. FW is a great start, keep going in this direction and you shall earn some more laudations from me Now make sure the hamsters don't run out of food!

Thanks for the post.
I've been feeling the same way. I've been playing EVE for over a year and I've seen it evolve into something better with each expansion and consequently have been having more and more fun as time goes by.
It's easy to criticize faults but we have to put things into perspective also. CCP has create and game universe that is truly unique and dynamic. It has brought people together from all over the world to share in something special. For all the haters and trolls, if you weren't having some degree of fun, then why are you paying to play this wonderful game?

CCP seems to be one of those companies who prioritize concept over polish; another example is Relic Entertainment. Dunno if you've ever played WH40K: Dawn of War or Company of Heroes, but it's like this: killer graphics, awesome/ hilarious voice acting, some genuinely innovative gameplay mechanics, lots of broken units, balance is typically shot to hell in one way or another (usually because they tried to add too god damn many armies).
Contrast that to a company like Blizzard, who offers up conceptually safe- and- sound games that are usually close to flawlessly executed. It's a case of boring professionals vs questionably competent but nonetheless highly inspired novices.
Which one of those two camps you're going to be more interested in is strictly a matter of taste, there's no "best" approach. I usually enjoy the high concept/ low polish stuff more myself but as always YMMV. ___________________________________________

The OPs post is obnoxious. Seems like bad TV on Sunday afternoon, where everyone is great, fantastic and wonderful.
CCP is a reasonably competent company, but it is far from Blizzard yet. They have the best idea and product, in my opinion, but their technical abilities are far worse.

CCP is pretty good overall, but like all game companies and people they are not perfect.
Pro: Very accessible developers, excellent forum presence. Dev blogs and technical details about server cluster upgrades and upcoming expansions are great examples of feedback.
Con: Sometimes it seems like they have no idea what they are doing. No server logs, petitions can be approved or denied completely at a whim, and of course T20 ruined the universe with free T2 BPOs, which is by far the worst episode of player favoritism in the history of big MMOs. Yes, I'm still mad about that even though it doesn't directly affect me, it's the principle of the thing damnit. |

The real thing here is the person who gave them the BP (I think) wasn't fired. This is very bad for PR and accountability in general. They're trying to reverse it with CSM but I dunno how seriously people take that.

Maybe you would have a more stable server if your code wasn't based on a demo you made in pre-alpha. Apparently they just kept the "EVE demo version" code and thats what we're still using today. I don't know if that introduces inefficiencies but I'd imagine it does. Apparently it also moves items very inefficiently.

This was a really horrible error and no MMO developers have an excuse for that. Blizzard would never allow something like that (IMO the gold standard of game development, not necessarily products, but methods).
Originally by: Doddy ccp rock, its just like most things in life people with something to complain about are alot more vocal than those who are perfectly happy with the situation, its human nature.
There is a very obvious difference between whining and legitimate complaints. Legitimate complaints, such as saying the UI is horrible (watch your overview delete settings and jump around every time you undock) would help everyone if CCP responded to them and generally make the game better. Whines, like all of the nano posts, just go on about how a certain group of players (FW noobs) are unable to deal with anything but other slow ships that sit on the gate. |

I think CCP are just about the most innovative and "best" (subjective, obviously) game developers out there. They might not be the most commercially successful and sometimes they might feel like a "mom & pop" game developer, but they have a unique vision that they're always moving towards, which I love.
I have been playing MMOG's since 99 and honestly, i can't think of a single one that is actually bigger & better after 5 years. Most of them have already been shut-down, had server-consolidations or mass player-migrations by the 5 year mark, whereas EVE gets better and more polished with each expansion.
there are very, very few MMOG's that I realistic expect to hit the 5 year mark and almost none that I can see getting to the 10 year mark - but I firmly believe EVE will, and more importantly, I think by the 10 year anniversary, this game will be better than it ever has been. |

I really must disagree.
Eve is a great game, but there is much about CCP that sucks.
The OP has cited a number of issues where CCP sucks, and basically says "get over it".
No. CCP charge around ú150 per year to play this game. That's a lot of money and therefore, if my boot.ini is deleted by the people who charge ú150 per year, I (and anyone else so afflicted) has every right to complain.
CCP charge plenty for a service. When the service is bad, people complain - and they should. |

Let me in on the secret of how your PC booted without a boot.ini then.
"Normal" installs of Windows XP, where Windows is installed on the "first" hard drive, and on the "first" partition, ntldr will be able to correctly guess the location of the windows directory to be: "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS"
I believe that the only people really affected by the boot.ini problem were people who had an "abnormal" partition layout on their hard drives.

CCP has never done me wrong.
I have never had a server go down on me other then extended down times during upgrades and any crashes i have had were on my end IE my ISP messing with my head or my comp crashing due to some other event.
The few times I have sent in a petition it has peen responded to within a day or so and after following the advice of the mod that responded my issues have been resolved.
I am throughly willing to continue sending CCP my $14 a month and those of you who take issue with ccp's practices can stop sending your cash at any time... and PS if you stop can i have ur stuff? ===============================================

love ccp aswell, but as said before they are not perfect, the thing that maybe bothers me the most is the gigantic lagg sometimes in large fleet battles. There would be nothing wrong with that if they wouldnt promote it so much, when I first started this game in 2004 it was possible to be a lone pirate, now its all about large fleets with bubbles and laggy gank ****.
I mean look at the last trailer, very nice idd but it wouldnt be playable.

Couldn't agree more. Nobody's perfect, but CCP have done exceptionally well in the time I've been in EVE.
Try other MMOs to see what you get by comparison. Days of downtime for just normal maintenance is just one example that comes to mind, let alone the fact that CCP actually listens to its customer base (that doesn't mean they have to agree); not seen that anywhere else. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation or alliance, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... |
