ITT: Noobs who don't know how to PVP with Caldari. Missile ships are excellent for small to mid sized gangs. Even against Nanos. If a nano ship cannot permarun it's MWD (ie most nano ships, exception being Ishtar and Crows LOL) it's going to get seriously hurt when it turns off it's MWD so it's guns can track you. I know within about 30 seconds if I can take down a drake or Raven in my Vaga, and if I can I'd be able to pwn him in just about any other ship anyway. Phoenix is able to swap its damage type on the fly, something no other dread can do as well. Chimera has the strongest tank of all the carriers. Torp Raven is an excellent close range gank ship. Rokh is an amazing sniper, the range bonus means you are able to drop tracking enhancers for Moar magstabs. Also makes an excellent neut ship and is able to provide a 25km Raepsphere which nanos will be unable to enter. Scorp does excellent EW while being more survivable/cheaper than a falcon. Vulture is excellent anti support and sexy gang bonii. Drake is actually half decent in a gang as long as you think outside that MAX TANK box, fit some EW in there for gang support and you're laughing. Two tracking disruptors will hurt most nano ship's days. Ferox is a nice cheap anti support boat. Cerb can be nano'd quite well, enough said. Eagle excellent anti support. Falcon/Rook FOTM. Should be a part of any gang. Caracal is a nice noob dps ship. Blackbird cheap and cheerful and able to lock down a fair bit. Cormorant can instapop frigs Crow is probably the most noob friendly inty out there. Fit a web in that spare mid to make nanos cry. Raptor enables you to hold a point outside of neut range. Kessie kills all close range inties dead.
Caldari noobs need to start adapting instead of sticking with the 'passive brick in space F1-F8 go make a sammich' approach that serves them well in missions. Caldari are maybe not the BEST pvp race (if there is such a thing) but they certainly have something going for them as you start getting more people in your gang.
Stop whining, adapt, improvise and overcome. Assumption of Risk |

Originally by: madjacket now in pve it is still ok but pvp it takes 150 torp ravens to match the DPS and tank of 25 Gall's mega's
You are probably just trolling but:
A standard t2 fitted mega with 5x ogre II can deal 1160 DPS and has 28.5K armour with agerage resists.
A standard t2 fitted raven with 2 ogre II, 2 HH II and a hornet II can deal 1200 DPS and has 28K Shields with slightly lower resists.
(assuming EFT warrior skills)

Thats a pretty decent line up of pvp ships if you ask me.
You forgot the crow but yes. Completely. Caldari whiners need to be shot.

Well at least I'm getting some good feed back here. Its starting to sound kind of like its more of a noobie problem then a race problem . . .
It makes sense that you go into a mission and taken them down one by one with very little damage in a Caldari missile boat, you might expect to do the same in PVP. (obviously not true) but an inexperienced pilot may make that mistake.
He may even try to countermand his/her defeat by tanking up his missiles boat even more for the next encounter, and thus would be once again missing the point entirely.
I'm kind of a group player myself anyway so when I say PVP I am really talking more about group on group battles. And it seems like Caldari my actually have an edge in that arena.
Thanks for all your feedback . . .

Edited by: Malcanis on 22/06/2008 12:47:40 Caldari get their PvP reputation from two factors:
(1) Although you hardly need any SP to mission in Caldari ships, a lot of people fail to understand that they're pretty skill intensive if you want to PvP in them. The only T1 Caldari ship effective at low SP is the Blackbird (and I guess the Griffin), and that's strictly a support ship.
(2) Caldari ships are nearly all rather specialised. they're designed to fill one role and fulfill it well. And generally they do: Torp raven? A tanking and ganking murder machine. Falcon: most effective EW ship. Eagle: unmatched medium sniper. Rokh: long range BS par excellence. Crow: Interceptor than can apply DPS outside of web range. And so on. But they can't operate alone, and they're only really effective in a gang where the FC understands how to use them properly.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

What surprises me most when we face the Caldari is the complete absence of ewar ships on their side. Last night, at different times, we faced a fleet that had around 100 kestrels, but no griffins, and two other times fleets that had 50-70 caracals but no blackbirds.
If they start bringing their ewar ships along in proportional numbers, they won't have to worry about nano-gangs.

The kestrel fleet (and then the later Caracal fleet) was just for fits and shiggles... and what fun it was :D
