1) drop one unit of ammo in a can next to someone elses can 2) drag everything from their can into yours 3) you are now flashy red to them/their corp 4) wait for them to attack you/steal the stuff back 5) ??? 6) profit

It's much simpler to just shoot their can than waste your time flipping it. Make sure you are in a fully rigged and expensive ship though.

Why would you tell him something like that? That's a borderline exploit that gets the can's owner Concorded. What an ******* thing to do.

Does it matter? A couple days ago CCP stated it's not an exploit since the shooter dies too so it's not like you'll get in trouble for it. Besides it only works if you do enough damage to kill the can 3-4 times over in the first shot anyways. Only battleships/battlecruisers with long range weapons can pull that off. _______________

I am curious - what is this thing about shooting the can in the first instance?

Ignore these other people. They will lead you false. If you want to learn the precepts of can-flipping, heed well my words.
1. Go find a can floating in space, preferably near a miner. 2. Realize you're being a noob trying to bait gunless ships into 'PvP' 3. Go to low sec and 0.0 so someone can kill you repeatedly. 4. ???? 5. Profit. I will not lie to you, though I will deceive you. |

So you put his ore into your can and blow up up. But what does that do? Wouldn't it just mean he lost his ore? Or does he get in trouble?

Few extra bits and blobs, here's what I always do;
- have an alt with passive targeter and ship scanner - warp both to the belt, while approaching the can scan down the ship to make sure it's not a trap, also to check if it's worthwhile to ransom (cargo rigs) - click info on the can and see who the owner is, set him red, If he's in a player corp the the corp red (and not the player only, like I just did... and I didn't realise the Astarte that warped in was a corpie, ouch). Scroll through local to see what's going on, keep doing that - drop 1 ammo, flip the can. Have drones on your overview, if he has drones out target them, make sure you can target one extra for the ship itself but don't do it yet - if he doesn't react instantly start moving away as if you're trying to run away, sometimes that sparks the attack - if he warps out or you see corp members in local start moving off the plane, go 150+km up or down from the belt and BM it, I use "x-x above/below" as bm names. If at all possible make one both above as below, tactical BM's are great - also send alt to the station if he went there, set at the undock point and scan him down once he undocks again - if he has corpies in the belt find out which one you can actually kill solo, preferably the longest range one and get into his range and hope he agresses you. Stick around (while outside range of the others) till corp agression timer runs out, warp back in from your above/below pojnt straight on the, now, 1 target and attack it. - Hope the others are idiots and attack you anyway, Concord will have some fun with them (if at all possible try to hit anyone once who is about to get Concordokend so you can check what they lost :P) - have a BC class ship (or bigger) at the ready with a proper pvp fit, if they bring in bigger guns you KNOW you can take wait out the corp timer and switch ships.
That or just kill the drones and then open the pinata if he agresses right away :)

If you have an alt account and you're more interested in stealing ore than pewpew, here's what I do..
- Main account in a rookie ship (they come with a unit of trit which is quite handy for can flips), alt in a hauler with a tractor beam and a rack of expanded cargoholds. - Main account looks through belts for cans (being handy with the onboard scanner speeds things up considerably here). - Once you find a can, warp to the belt, approach the can if close, BM it, warp out, warp to zero on the can if not close. - Alt account warps to first account, at a distance that will drop them 15-20kms from the can - Flip, tractor, warp main to SS while alt collects the loot. - Drop off a station, rinse, repeat
Not good for kills but it does gather lots of ore / ice.

1. take an alt with a little bumpship. a thorax is fine too. 2. make the bumpship warp on to belt, be sure to fit it with miners II. 3. bump the industrial/barge out of scooping range. 4. flip the can wth thorax 5. main warps in with industrial, take can, warp away 6. watch curses in local 7. petition 8. ??? 9. If you take ore from their can and put it into your own, and *then* shoot it, you'll be flagged as an aggressor. Sounds like it'd be much safer to just blast their can all in one shot, and warp off. That is, atleast until CCP fixes the exploit so that CONCORD attacks you, like it's supposed to, but knowing them it'll take ages. In the mean time, happy griefing!

All your advice is horrible. I have never stolen ore before but I can already see cloaking up to a can and waiting for the miner to leave and get his hauler and THEN switching the cans so that when he comes back he hasn't a clue he will be taking the ore from your can unless he is really paying attention. Then uncloak in your stupid little recon/bomber/whateveryouthinkyourleetin and blow him up.

Find a person mining in a cluster of hulks all on macro, petition exploit ccp for macro mining 'farmer'... sit back and steal ore from the macro miners cans..
Bet isk with corpmates on how long it take GM to respond to petition and whether they do anything at all to stop the macro miner...

If you really want to see a spicy local. Flip the can as normal. Then target and destroy your own can that has the ore in it.
