Edited by: Marcus Gideon on 25/06/2008 00:23:31 CCP doesn't do crap.
1) None of the issues raised in 1200+ PAGES worth of forums have ever been solidly addressed. Most have gone on for years without a CCP response, other than to say "We're moving this thread to a section we don't ever read".
2) The official Item Database, is out of date. Like a lot out of date. There are ships and items completely missing. Stats are incorrect. The images are old (like the recent CovOps changes).
3) The official Players Guide is out of date as well. For one thing, several articles still instruct players to make "instas" for ease of travel.
4) The Patch Notes pages, specifically features they ~intend on getting to... eventually~ have never been changed. Those pages may as well not even exist, for all the good they're doing.
5) I'm not even sure what else has been hinted at and never delivered. But I know people are dying to see what the Orca is, as well as wishing they had Interbus for Market purchases. (Orca may or may not be a High Sec Rorqual, Interbus is an NPC delivery service)
6) The Search function for the site is rediculous. COUNTLESS PAGES of threads respawn weekly, all because people can't search for their idea and find how many other people have said the same thing days before. GOOGLE actually finds these outdated threads better than the built in function does.
CCP barely acknowledges their customers, except to say "Hey, thanks for the money".
Anyone else feel like ranting as well? For or against, I don't care.

Item database is so outdated that it's not funny. And why do i need multipl sessions within this site ? It's also poorly written which lead to situation that i'm with one account posting on forums, other then i press "my account" and OTHER when i enter "my character". And then when i log off one, it usualy log other one. This is ridiculous, someone with 1 year programming experience can write better trans-site session system. ---

This is the best piece of sarcasm ever. They have never thanked me and have never helped me other than one time returning a ship that was destroyed due to lag (it really did happen).

Edited by: Sir Substance on 25/06/2008 02:06:21 on the other hand, the maintain a server that services the entire world, continuously upgrade and patch the game rather then sitting on their laurels like some other MMO's i could name, and have an active in game moderator presence.
yes, i want to see the orca too, and im surprised they havent got more on the ball about it, given its now hit almost 20 pages and has been on the first page for months.
but overall i think they do a good job. especially since they have getting no more then about $50 mil AU a year to do development, maintenance, paychecks for employees, upgrades and other expenses. there are many businesses (mmo game producers and others) out there that do a lot less with a lot more.

That'd be game testers. People who work professionally for the company to give feedback.
Apparently the casual players arent good enough sources for it.
Want CCP to buy game testers FTW.

I totaly agree. There may be things like the item database in web and forum search function etc. which are outdated or simply not working as intended. The inaccurate webguide should be fixed also and be inline with the ingame guides. My guess is that all this is just a matter of manpower and time. If you take a look at ccpgames.com in the "jobs" section, you see that more than one of the points mentioned by Markus should not be there but simply are there because of limited staff/time. I'm sure ccp wants to fix all this but has to prioritize things.
Let's face another thing. A working forum search function doesn't stop people from starting the same threads over and over again. Other forums prove that already. You might get rid of 10% but not more. People are lazy. From ccps point of view there are already two search functions. One hat isn't working (ccps search) and one that is working better (eve-search.com). So why should they put manpower into this if there are much more important things to do?
One way might be to contact the "CSM" for some of the points. As far as I've read in their protocols, some ideas are on their ToDo also (skill queue, etc.). Read there transcripts here.

I totaly agree.
Yea, me too.
Sure there is issues in EVE, but to say CCP "never" does anything and "never" responds to issues is total crap.
First of all, this game has been better balanced than almost any game I know of, and the devs are aware of the issues and are working for solutions. (Just wait - there will be a nanonerf soon...) Neither do they ever implement nerfs just because whinage, but after thought, which is a big bonus compared to, uh, some other games.
Second, CCP does provably follow these forums and comment on the threads. No, they do not comment on every single one of the constant threads on the same matters, and no, you do not generally get a response if you yell and scream and tell them that (apparently unlike every other poster) you are a PAYING CUSTOMER and you DEMAND this issue be fixed NOW. And frankly, I'd rather they'd not.
Thirdly, none of the problems there are in EVE are fixable by changing current folks who have been with the game for years and know it and love it to some corporate cronies with efficiency calculations and more care for marketing value than the spirit of the game.
Fourthly, and most importantly - don't like the way the managers manage their game? Go play something else. You can give feedback, you can tell what you think would rule, but in the end, if you do not like what people are doing with their game, you cannot demand that they be removed - you remove yourself. Can I have your stuff?

TBQFH CCP are doing a good job, compared to a lot of online games.
item database is out of date? big deal...most people use evemon and eft, and *gasp* the market in game (!!!) to see what mods n ships n such need what skills.
the game doesnt work as you like it.....well, tough! you cant please everyone all the time, and personally, its a hard job looking after a server woth 30 people logged in at one time and a playerbase of about 50-60, let alone one of 30k at 1 time and 50-60k memberships. i helped run a successful role-playing server with full DM interaction and storylines, with player manipulation of the persistent world and its a bloody nightmare to keep the entire playerbase 100% happy all the time. sure, there are things they could do, and things that should have been done by now, but then again, they are constantly adding fixes, patches, AND free chapters to the game. I dont see any of you going to your local GAME/EB and buying Empyrian Age for ú30/$60???!?!?!
have you ever thought that soring out some of the issues YOU feel are a problem would end up making issues for 10 other people down the line? in the end, if you dont like it, cancel your subscription. if you see an issue, post it up. but to insult and demand that a company YOU are paying to PLAY whilst they WORK to allow you to PLAY and insisting they are lazy and you know better...pretty offensive!!! If you think you can do better, YOU set up your own company and make your own MMORPG...till then, its much more respectful to offer views and advice whilst keeping a civil tongue in your head. There are things i would like changed, for example, assult frigates fixed, some lag sorted out, suicide ganking addressed, but at the same time, demanding and insulting those you pay is NOT the way to get it done. Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of themself without that law is both. |

Oh, big deal... it's out of date?
First off, the eve-online website is the public face CCP presents to the world. Both current and potential customers have access to all the features I've mentioned. And when the information is expired like sour milk, it doesn't look good for the company.
Sure, CCP has made a lot of patches and updates. Considering most of those updates were actually bug fixes for what went wrong in patches, it's not much to go on.
As for EFT, Evemon, eve-search... all these may be functional tools. But they are prime examples of other people getting fed up with the poor performance of THE GAME ITSELF and making their own. And what does CCP do about it? Do they fix it, and provide customers with what they obviously wanted to see? Nah... they just link you to those other sources. Why fix it, when someone else did it for you?
I don't think that pointing out flaws is "disrespectful" or "whining so much I outta quit". But I do think if enough people agree things need changed... they'll either change or someone else will do it for them.

1) Plenty of nerfs have been blamed on forum posters, usually referred to as whiners.
2) I know it was last updated with trinity, may have been updated since. The item database is not connected to the live server, so all the data needs to to be exported, reformated and published. It's a labor intensive process so they usually waited a while 'till all statistics in the most recent patch/expansion were considered final. The web team is currently working on hooking the item database to the live version, so it will be up to date, all the time.
3) Correct. But it's an issue all MMO's have. CCP is working on a wiki style player guide/FAQ/knowledge base that will also work in-game. Maintained by them and us to keep it up to date.
4) True
5) So? Development usually takes quite a bit of time. Read about the NGE of Star Wars Galaxies if you want to know what happens if you rush things.
6) Couldn't agree more with this one.

We should just make an almost official Wiki Player Guide and Item Database.
As a new player myself, that was one thing I wished existed. A very official handbook PDF of some sort. I don't know what information is out of date on the website but I've been under the impression that only the community of users could provide up to date info for me.
Maybe EVE should just make the database an official Wiki and let the changes and updates commence? -- autechre - ep7 - track 1: rpeg estevancarlos.com |
