EVE, our playerbase, while being somewhat insane, tends to know alot more then the average person(ie in science).
For example the person above you.

You should try conveying your objection using words like a real person.
I see nothing wrong with that quote as that is what WoW was made for. The game is so easy that even a 7 year old could master it in a matter of minutes. The game is so safe (even on the PVP server) that you don't even need to pay attention to the screen half the time.
WoW is a single player game set on easy mode with a multiplayer function. It is not an MMORPG as far as I'm concerned.

I feel like:
WoW - a game. Not more, not less. Easy to get into, to stay and to quit due to boredom.
EVE - a hobby. Deeper, asking more dedication, harsh, no instant gratification. More of a virtual reality than any other game.
Yes, a little bit elitist. Justified, imho.

Isn't WoW like Runescape with slightly better graphics?
Whereas Eve is like massively multiplayer Elite with far better graphics?

In RF you can do mass genocide solo and destroy bellato BMAU's (for which they pay money and you don't loose anything except rank if you die :P), while Tabula Rasa should've been called Carebear Rasa.

Kill a mech solo? Crappy ones yes but the better ones could not be killed solo unless you had some crazy equipment yourself.

And how can we capitalise on those mediocre people in EVE? We kill them. Possibly causing lots of hurtin, depending on what they were flying at the time or carrying inside their ship.. In WOW on the other hand.. the most you can do is inconvenience em for the 10 mins it takes to walk back to their corpse.. -----------

I played WoW for the better part of three years (I was a holy priest until TBC, then rerolled a resto shammy). I was really good at healing in WoW - I did it for a long time, did more dungeons and raids than I can count. I came over to Eve and I even though I'm a carebear I do like Eve much better.
1) It's impossible to lose in WoW. Ever. Being bad in WoW means you advance slower, but in the end every ******, their brother, their father (if not the same person), and their down-syndrome dog will get to lv. 70 and get the uber gear. There's no real sense of accomplishment. In Eve if you're stupid you'll lose your shirt so fast your head will spin.
So in WoW you have an environment where the random person you run into is most likely a ******. In EvE the random people you bump into are most likely competent at whatever they do. It's very refreshing, even if said people *are* out to get you.
2) WoW starts off telling you what to do and never stops. You pick a class depending on what you decide you want to do. The devs set up very specific skill trees and gear setups so they can exactly control what you can do. Eve's skill and ship fitting systems let you do whatever *you* want to do, for the most part, and switch roles on the fly with no stupid penalties. There's no clearly defined roles either, you can log in, say, "Today I want to be <whatever>" and as long as it works with the game mechanics you can do it.
3) WoW is VERY strictly segregated - first by level, and then later by whether you're an arena player or a raider and then again by whatever tier you're at. Eve is very good about getting people together - it doesn't really matter what you're doing from fleet warfare to piracy to shooting rocks in highsec every gang can use every player regardless of whether they're five years old or just started ten minutes ago. I think this is one of Eve's most underrated strong points.
4) In WoW the bad guys are NPCs that stand around in caves all day waiting on people to murder them for their clothes. In Eve the bad guys are real people (you, if you're so inclined) and they come to you.
5) The skill system encourages the game to expand laterally, where new content exists side-by-side with existing content and nothing is ever obsolete. In WoW new expansions render all the high-end content in the old game obsolete, and nobody ever goes back and does old dungeons because they don't need anything from them.
6) Offline skill training means I can actually work, have something resembling a life, and not fall behind. Trading and manufacturing careers allow players to earn ISK, become influential, and not have to devote tons of time to the game. Everyone trains at the same rate - you can't powerlevel in Eve. People either love or hate this feature - there's very little inbetween.
7) Almost everything of real value in Eve is player-controlled. From T2 manufacturing, to mineral markets, to system ownership in 0.0, to logistics to and from deep space, NPCs don't do it, people do it. The pve side of eve is very underdeveloped and that's a good thing, imo.
8) Eve is about freedom. You log in, do what you will. WoW is very much a dev-guided experience from start to finish. Despite people complaining about the lack of RP in Eve I find most people in Eve do RP, they just don't realize it - that's how good CCP has built the sandbox.

Mechs up to lvl 48 are easy to kill solo with a Cora templar. I'm not talking about the red mechs (RMAU lvl 50).

Edited by: Growler667 on 26/06/2008 07:42:35 Totally different games. The only similarities are a sense of advancing withing the game (less pronounced in Eve because of the extra emphasis on PVP) and the fact that it's an MMO.
WoW beats Eve all over the place for PVE content. Eve beats WoW all over the place for PVP content.
The fact that certain people seem to think there's a war between the two is utterly ********.
The thing that worries me about Eve (or CCP, rather) is that there are no new ideas. I've been playing since 2003 and the only NEW idea since then that I can think of is ambulation, the benefits of which can be called "dubious" at best. I watched the Empyrean age trailer and nearly threw my monitor through the window - war has been "coming" for 5 frigging years now. Factional warfare is the last of the idea pool CCP showed us back then. "Kali" was a known term pretty much back on day 1. THAT is how far CCP's plans went then, a few years into the future. How far do they reach now?
Conversely, Blizzard are due to bring out their second expansion pack (yes, you have to pay - get over it - it's CCP's generosity, not Blizzard's greed) later this year with a silly amount of new content. This means new environments, new quests/missions, new abilities for every character and lord knows what else. When your areas aren't just one of seven or eight nebula backgrounds, your missions more than a picture saying "go kill x because they z" and your lore having advanced AT ALL in the past five years, that means a lot.
I played Eve in 2003 and continued doing so until the end of 2007. At that point, I relented and let a friend convince me to try WoW. I don't regret it.

Well then heres an idea, DONT GET THE YELLOW ONES.
Bell is in no way underpowered, why? Well yes its expensive, but after a while everybody starts using Black mechs and outright owns all the other sides.

Edited by: Amastat on 27/06/2008 04:01:55 I can't speak for everyone, but myself and a lot of people I know (a LOT) dislike WoW because we used to play it at one time, and left it - because Blizzard ruined it. A lot of us dislike WoW and left for the same reasons in most ways, actually.
Biggest reasons me and my freinds left was the Never-Ending Grind/Instancing for Drops, Battlegrounds & Dishonor-Kills, the Other Players, and Rogues.
The Never-Ending Grind/Instancing pretty much speaks for itself - the game was literally designed so the drop rates are so low, that the player - you - have to hack at it on a daily basis just to keep up with the rest of your companions and/or rivals; Blizzard may as well have renamed it to World of Grindcraft. What really bugged me, personally, is that after hours and hours of tolerating idiot group members in dungeons/raids - some ******* ninja loots all of your crap.
The Battlegrounds & Dishonor-Kills single-handedly killed off world PvP completely. Dishonor no longer exists anymore, but it was included in the first release of battlegrounds (Warsong Glutch, followed by Arathi Basin, and Alterac Valley). You can really give the credit of the last nail of the coffin to the Dishonor-Kills for making sure raiding cities/towns would never rise from the grave ever again in your sad, pitiful little existence that you call a life.
Now - by all means, there is still some city-raiding PvP, but its a dying art - especially on non-PvP servers. Everyone lines up in battlegrounds now, it's not often you see anyone amass 40 guys to attack a town/city anymore. On most servers, you see a raid of that size probably happen once every few weeks at best chances are. Probably twice as less likely to happen on non-PvP servers.
The thing is - people like I, and a lot of ex-WoW players, despised Battlegrounds. It's because they are instances, enclosed, predictable, and extremely repetitive. The Battlegrounds were also, for me, a huge pain in the ass. You couldn't do them with just your guild, or a guild vs. guild - so you had to deal with people you never met before - half of which are guaranteed to be absolute flaming idiots.
This was a smaller issue, but a irritating one - Other Players. Most WoW players don't have this problem because they are idiots themselves and fit in nicely - or they are just clueless and don't care if everyone around them are woo-who (like those insecure emo teenagers on myspace who have trouble making freinds in RL). I'm a more serious, older, conserved personality - so I absolutely lose my mind with a bunch of screaming nutso kids around me in Stormwind, dancing around some NE chick stripping for gold, offering her hours of cybersex.
This is a split topic for people, but I've met as many people agree on this matter, as many as those who defend Rogues. They are just, simply, overpowered - in PvP at least. They tended to dodge every other attack (unless you were a caster), the DPS was next to unmatched, and most importantly they could hit you with the infamous, and dreaded, neverending spam-stun/disoreint.
You know, the neverending stun wehere your completely incapacitated for several minutes, and unless your a heavily tanked war, you will likely hit the ground by the time you come out of the stun.
So - unless you could outnumber and gank-first, or find the rogue before they find out - and zerg the crap out of them before they can *****you - you were boned; that is unless you were a rogue yourself, then its a matter of who can hit the stun button first.
They weren't impossible to kill, but overpowered - but they were basically the equivalent, in EVE terms, of a max-skilled faction fit Navy Megathron, with an extra 10 mid slots /w a full set of Legion ECM Jammers, and a officer MWD and a really low overall ship mass.
So there - thats what I know, if it helps you. ____________________
