Mining's getting a bit (ok, more than a bit) old and despite still needing to work up another 300mil or so I'm looking to dip my toes into salvage reclaim as an alternate method of making some ISKies.
I've given my trusty slave a Vigil fit with 2 overdrive injectors, an expanded cargohold, best named T1 AB, 3 salvagers and enough cap mods to run them all so I know he can scoot about the deadspaces OK, but as for me looking for these places I just wanted some general advice - I'm well versed at probing down exploration sites but this recon stuff is a bit new to me, plus with Astrometrics IV I can't use all the recon probes yet.
Basically, my plan is to go to Dodixie, sit outside a station scanning with a Spook until I get something, then scan with a snoop. Would it work better if I switched probe launchers and used a quest probe instead for narrowing it down? Or am I totally off track? Thanks! ----- My in Eve Profile My BattleClinic Page |

Why would you fit 2 overdrive injectors (lowered cargohold, increased speed) and one cargo expander (increased cargohold, decreased speed)? ------------

You don't need the cargohold, you wont be looting anyway and salvage is small enough to fit into your hold. Might I suggest fitting a tractor beam as well to drag around a can where you can drop metal scraps inside... they fill up your hold pretty fast and can only be jettisoned once every 2 min or so.

Since you have the ONLY CovOp's that CCP has seen fit to put 2 instead of the 3 high slots all other races have, you are limited to a probe launcher and a salvager.
Until CCP brings the Helios in line with the other races in order to probe and salvage you will have the distinction of not being able to fit a cloak like EVERY other race can on their covert ops.
That is pretty much it, you find - you salvage - you profit, sice you can't cloak keep the fit cheap and combat ship in the hanger idlling.

I think the reason that the Helios doesn't have a 3rd hi-slot is because it's the only CovOps ship that has any drone space, albeit only 5m3, so CCP in some sort of twisted logic decided to nerf the 3rd hi-slot because of this.
Whether this measly 5m3 of drone space is actually of any use is another question as you can't really put any drone that might actually be of any use in it, so it would seem that the Helios has been crippled from the get go in comparison to it's counterparts.

Edited by: Hanneshannes on 26/06/2008 11:11:21 Use a helios to probe and a different ship to salvage?
-E- Some tank isn't wrong, what if an NPC spawn decides to go after you rather than the mission runner or the mission runner warps off?
