Permission issues:
If you are getting a permission error that looks like this:
Quote:Exception during UpdaterModule.Update Traceback (most recent call last): File "lib\update.pyc", line 527, in Update File "lib\update.pyc", line 576, in _Update File "lib\update.pyc", line 304, in Run File "zsync\zsync.pyc", line 1419, in ApplyPatch File "zsync\zsync.pyc", line 1411, in ApplyPatch WindowsError: [Error 32] The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process: 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\CCP\\EVE\\resDX9CaldariShips01.stuff'

CCP Donut Golem wrote:Just to update everyone on the situation:
We're aware of the permissions issues plaguing some of our users. We're actively working on a fix for this.
In the mean-time, please do the following: 1. Restart your computer 2. Run the Repair Tool without starting any other EVE-related process (ie Client, Launcher, etc) beforehand. 3. Navigate to EVE/bin/ and run ExeFile.exe directly. 4. Please reply to this thread confirming this work around, if it is, in fact, successful.
A few caveats about this approach. If you encounter permission errors on files during the Repair process, they may not have been completely updated to their latest versions. Therefore, you may not be running a completely sane client, but you might be able to get in-game.
Thank you for bearing with us while we sort these issues out. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

The repair tool will write down the log as it goes in the white box. Just copy paste that here. It can in addition to this tell you that there is a logfile under a temp directory. Without clicking OK on the error, go to this temp directory and open the log. Associate Technical Producer - Core Technology Group |

Hi,
Are you using ESET Smart Security? If so, please have a look at this news post: http://community.eveonline.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=4930&tid=1
If not, can you please evemail me what firewall/internet security software you are using? Have you tried disabling it while running the Launcher? Have you tried looking into your home router to see if there are any logs there?
If you don't want to reply on the forum, please send me an evemail via evegate (click my face on the left and click "Send Message".

Pretty clear that something is causing the data transfer to end prematurely resulting in a truncated patch file. Maybe WAN optimisation technologies employed by some ISPs are messing with the data stream?

ZyndeII wrote: Don't put this on the router or the ISP. There's dozens if not hundreds of people from all over the world experiencing the same issue. It's not all of those people that need to spend yet again more time tinkering on their router firmware to potentially fix something that's not even broken, but it's YOU who need to make amends to your software so that it will work with all kinda ISPs, routers, AV's and firewalls.
My reply was in response to:
Quote:as soon as launcher gets to 5% I get a message from my router saying it has lost connection to the internet, launcher continues to run to 15.0% then hangs.
The Launcher can't just shut someones internet connection down. This is the software in the router which reacts on the data which is being sent over and most likely believes it is under attack. The way to resolve this issue would be to change the router settings so that it doesn't react this way by turning off certain features or have the router firmware updated so that it doesn't wrongfully believe it is under attack. If the latest firmware is installed and there is still an issue, it is up to the manufacturer of the router to fix the software in the router.
The issue with the ESET Smart Security software has been confirmed by many people and we have contacted them to give them all the information they need to reproduce this issue and send an update to their software, we can't really do more than wait for them to do this.
This isn't me placing the blame on someone else, I'm just confirming to you what other players have reported to us and what our tests inhouse have shown. This does not mean that we are still looking at our side, going through our code, fixing up issues as we speak. We are very much working off a list of things that are wrong, but players will need to tell us what problems they are experiencing so that we can help.
Our current theory about the Data Corruption is that it is caused by something which is outside our control (firewalls, ISP traffic shaping, routers). But again, we are still looking into the issue to confirm this.

On a similar note, whenever we experience download corruption issues like these, its extremely helpful if you can let us know what ISP you are using, your rough geographical location (Such as Reykjavik, Manchester or Berlin, just the nearest major city), as well as, if possible, your IP address and time of when you tried to access the content.
If you are uncomfortable posting this information on the forums, please file a petition with the information to the Technical queue. If you do, please mention in the ticket that the information is for myself, and the GM's will ensure that I get notified about it as soon as they see it.. |

Hi all,
Please note that getting the corruption error like these:
Exception in thread Thread-2: Traceback (most recent call last): File "threading.pyc", line 530, in __bootstrap_inner File "threading.pyc", line 483, in run File "zsync\readFromUrl.pyc", line 117, in DownloadPart File "zsync\readFromUrl.pyc", line 136, in _DownloadPart File "zsync\zsync.pyc", line 762, in callback FileSyncError: data corruption
No handlers could be found for logger "zsync" Exception in thread Thread-4: Traceback (most recent call last): File "threading.pyc", line 530, in __bootstrap_inner File "threading.pyc", line 483, in run File "zsync\readFromUrl.pyc", line 117, in DownloadPart File "zsync\readFromUrl.pyc", line 136, in _DownloadPart File "zsync\zsync.pyc", line 522, in callback TypeError: Error while decompressing: 1
And the issue earlier mentioned in this thread which prevents a person from even accesseing the file network (this file: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/client_repair/345/repair.exe) or downloading the full installer to the game are two completely different issues.
Basically, if you have problems accessing this file: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/client_repair/345/repair.exe then it will not matter if you have the launcher or the old manual patches, because you are having problems downloading from the CDN which is where we store the files. If you run the repair tool, what happens? If the game doesn't start after you click play it is most likely because the client doesn't have all the files it needs to start.

Daniel Whateley wrote:We still have the launcher issue, it's regarded with the "shortcut" eve creates for the launcher to start, it's named the actual launcher update to force it to start, and... i can no longer manage to launch the launcher now as i didn't pin the old shortcut to my task bar, so no i have no idea what to put into the shortcut name, i can't find any patch notes thread for the launcher... Upon updating it downloads correctly, then restarts the launcher, possibly for the wrong version, then it tries updating but the files are already there , so it keeps flashing back and forth from "downloading update" to "installing" rapidly.. It must have something to do with the shortcut, for instance my old shortcut says Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\launcher\appdata\EVE_Online_Launcher-2.1.559197.win32\launcher.exe" Starts in: ""C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\launcher\appdata\EVE_Online_Launcher-2.1.559197.win32"" which is the old launcher which is no longer working as it's obsolete, and the only way i can get it to fix is downloading the whole launcher over again by using the launcher repair tool. Whenever i launch the old launcher it will say "offline mode" - it could be 1 of thousands of things doing it, but one thing i know is that restarting the launcher and computer to restart all processes will let it work correctly the second time makes it work correctly, and when i went looking for the updated launcher version only the old one was there. so possibly it doesn't commence the install phase of the launcher? but the second time it does, also when i launched the old launcher from my taskbar from where it was pinned and when i go looking for the new update it doesn't show, so either launching the shortcut deletes the new content, or the new content gets downloaded but not installed due to some random error. I've fixed my issue and repinned the new one and removed the old one from my taskbar, but every time i update it wont launch my launcher correctly or it takes a while however i am launching the launcher update from the folder "EVE_Online_Launcher-2.1.559197.win32" so maybe the issue lies with pinning it to the task bar? - so..... now i have to have 3 eves pinned to the task bar? I think the next step is to create a windows localized installer which only needs 1 item pinned to the taskbar, there must be a way you can have the client, launcher, and updated launcher work in the same taskbar tab? i do have an idea however, just change the "starts in:" to the "ccp\eve" folder" Don't pin the launcher.exe at all, just use the eve.exe. Due to the way that the Launcher bootstraps itself the executable you pin to the taskbar after it's started (by right clicking and going 'pin to taskbar') isn't correct and will break as you've detailed. If the process is updater.exe then the only reason you're seeing it is that old version of the Launcher (v.1.32) is trying to update itself to the newer versions (v2.1.xxxxxx) Running the installer I linked, should install the new version of the EVE Launcher and remove the old one.

If the EVE Launcher is crashing, it would be good to try and get a crash dump; instructions are detailed here: https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_Launcher_Issues_and_Workarounds#EVE_Launcher_Crashes_When_Attempting_to_Run
If however the UI is just not responding (ie: progress bar moving, etc) try opening the EVE Launcher, and opening the settings dialog. In there, open the 'Cache' tab, and click 'clear all cached data'. This will have the unfortunate side effect of deleting any saved usernames, but it will purge the cached landing page.
If that still doesn't help, tell me what version of the EVE Launcher you're running (it will say in the title bar of the EVE Launcher) and link me to some log files, or file a bug report. EVE Launcher - Team Special Circumstances |

If that still doesn't help, tell me what version of the EVE Launcher you're running (it will say in the title bar of the EVE Launcher) and link me to some log files, or file a bug report. So I followed this procedure ... and the launcher just disappeare from the screen. Now i have no launcher at all it seems. Shortcuts do not work, nor going to the launcher file location direct. For some reason I managed to log in through the Bin though I had tried this previously and it would not work. But as to where my Eve Launcher has gone ??? How do I get my launcher back??? Which procedure did you follow? EVE Launcher - Team Special Circumstances |

Durethia wrote:My launcher still hangs, is this bug going to be squashed? I've been unable to reproduce the problem with the webpage stalling and you've already said that you've cleared the cached data in the EVE Launcher, so I'm afraid I've no suggestions on what you might do to fix the problem.
As a final idea, you could always try and re-install the EVE Launcher, and see if that fixes anything. It's available to download from here: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/release/EVEOnlineLauncher_2_1_655130.exe EVE Launcher - Team Special Circumstances |

mrrabit wrote:I had issues with launcher too. it freezes at the slide of the login fields or it said client validation att 33,4%
i fixed it by going to c:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\launcher\cache and remove browsercache checksums and client_validation. when i launched the eve launcher it started a new client validation and worked after that.
hope this helps somebody else.

p.s. Fly safe You can achieve the same from within the EVE Launcher itself, by opening the settings cog, and switching to the Cache tab, and choosing Clear all cached data. EVE Launcher - Team Special Circumstances |

Arcana Mortis wrote:So last night I downloaded the update, and all was well. Got into the game etc etc...everything was just dandy! Then I decided to relog, and all is decidedly NOT well. The launcher refuses to acknowledge that I am connected to the Internet. The client woks just fine if I use the .exe file in the bins folder (which tip I found here on this thread, thanks) but the launcher is dead in the water. http://imgur.com/3joFaVfHave a look at that - doesn't the irony just KILL you? Also, I've just gotten used to using the launcher and I would like it fixed now please. That's because you're continually starting the older EVE Launcher (2.2.859950) probably because you've pinned it to your task bar. That version has been half updated to the newer, download-on-demand capable version, and thus the certificates used to connect to the server have been moved and that connection can't be validated.
Try running eve.exe directly, and if that doesn't fail, reinstall just the EVE Launcher from here: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/release/EVEOnlineLauncher_2_2_871481.exe |
