I am a member of the IMPco corporation and I will be cancelling my account within a few days. The reason for me quitting can't be blamed on just one event. But i do want to offer an explanation for me leaving the game, especially for the people of IMPco.
I've nearly used up the free trial membership. During this time, i spent trying to learn the game. I've tried to see what this game has to offers me. Afterall, this is a game where you have to keep paying money to play. I have to get something out of it right? I can say that the only positive thing i got out of this game is the few people i've meet. without those people, I would have cancelled long before the free trial was over. Well.. there's actually two things.. The second thing is the music in the game. no, really. I find the music so boring that anytime i have a hard time falling asleep at night, All i would have to do is start listening to that music and i'm fast asleep.
the bad things about this game? Well.. so many to list. where to start? The numerous bugs that were present shortly after going public should have been delt with long before this game went public comes to mind. characters getting stuck is another. the market crashes that plague eve during the first few weeks hinted as possible stability problems or perhaps bad coding/design? how many times did you say to yourself "god i hope i don't crash when i click this map button". I can keep going but those are bugs and nuisences that hopfully CCP will fix in a timely manner.
What made me decide to leave this game is that the fun factor seems to have been removed from the game before it's released to the public. Mining rocks for minerals.. well, i'd rather see paint dry. Many times I would wonder what I would choose if i had to decide between mining and going to a dentist. Sadly, the the dentist often appealed to me more. i tried some pirate hunting at some of the gates and astroid belts and after an hour or so, that too became boring. I just don't see how fun (or challenging for that matter) it is to move the mouse curser over a NPC, click on "lock target" then activitate your weapons. I bet with proper training, you can get a monkey to do the same thing. Granted, with harder pirates, you also have to navigate your ship to with in your weapons's optimum range.. ooh, i can feel my adrelinine rush. oh wait, that was just my bowel movement. So i decided to try some exploring? Well...30 jumps to a random location and it what i saw was the same thing over and over. a stargate.. a few planets, some astrod belts and a station or two.
I then tried to find some factory slots and research facility. Well.. let's not go there since this has been discussed in other forums.
i suppose what finally got me over the edge was when the two people, Feanor and Marichek decided to take everything IMPco had and take off. I was angry at first because a lot of people in the corp had sacrificed their time and effort to get the blueprints, cash an some items. i was also shocked because these two people were one of the first people to join the corp. they were there from the very begining. Sadly, CCP designed the game so that people like Feanor and Marichek can do these acts and walk away without any reprocussions. I find that to be a serious flaw within the game. I realize they did make some changes to give security clearance but are these changes enouph? My feeling is that this game is based too much on DIS-trust. "I don't trust you so i am only giving you security clearance of level 2" I don't see any fun telling someone that.. or being told that. And what happens if someone is given the wrong clearence by mistake? One bad judgement and you'll see everything that the corporation has worked for gone in matter of seconds.
the only thign i want to say to CCP is:
Your clue phone is ringing. please.. please pick it up.
