Ok, so my corp is going to do some lvl5's to bring in some extra isk and for fun. Would the following 4 man setup work?
1x passive raven (tank)
2x rr shield typhoons following setup:
High's 4 Large shield transporters 4 Large arty Mids and lows cap mods to perma run the shield transporters Drones either shield reppers or extra DPS, phoons bay lets us carry both
1xDPS BS.
So is this enough DPS and can a passive raven with 8xLarge shield reppers tank the mission? Also how long do you think it would take us.
Thanks for any help/advice in advance.

Try it. Most RR bs setups die quickly. Use a logistics and 3-4 tanked BS or use a carrier

Having never run a level 5, I will say that a passive drake > than a passive raven if you simply want tank. You might even want to look into a passive Onyx, especially if versus a kinetic/thermal dealing foe.

Yeah I'll see if the tank can switch to a drake, he should be able too.

yeah we only have t1 ships to work with unfortunately no caps, logistics, or nighthawks :P
We'll try 1 drake tank, 2 rrs phoons with about 300dps each, and a dps bs

What are the anti-pirate elements in your setup? You know low-sec ...

It might be worthwhile to have the ability to transfer cap to the Drake, if necessary. With only one ship dedicated to DPS, the Drake may have to tank for an awful long time and I expect it will have terrible cap regen.

pfft if we could get a fight in the lowsec we are in do you think we'd be doing this? Nah I doubt we'd be bothered much, and all it takes is a dock up to pvp fit our ships, and who really cares if you lose a **** fitted BS? :P And if they did kill the tank i'm pretty sure we'd all die to the mission

Drakes have passive tank and heavy missiles so requires no cap.

There is no such thing as a good Passive tank Raven. You want passive, you must use a Drake or Nighthawk (or maybe a Vulture if you're good).
If you're going 4 man with t1 ships, do the following:
- 1x Raven Tank w/ DPS (Cruise) - 2x Phoon setups as you noted (swap 1 shield transporter for an energy transfer if you get a neut mission - and take those things out first) - 1x DPS BS (your choice, mission based)
You also need to account for any additional spawns (might think about spider repping as they may not necessarily aggro the main tank).
Time is variable, but for 4 BS's, 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on complexity of mission.
Good luck.

passive nighthawk > passive drake imo, but then again I've never tried lv5 so...

you should be fine We did lvl5 missions with a pack of 3 Dominix's Only vs angels, serps, mordus and drones so far, as we avoid faction killing missions. All the domis have remote reps fitted, so its a turtle tank 3 large remote armor, 2 drone range extender, 1 remote cap (spider giving remote cap, creates cap out of nothing) 2 EANM t2, 2 specific passive energized armor hardeners, rest cap, 100mn AB 1 CCC rig, 2 armor resist rigs.
We had to warp out in one angel mission... mainly because we were too lazy to refit from serps tank to angel tank. Just kill the scramblers fast and you are fine.
So with 8 large remote shields on a passive resist fitted raven should work equally fine.

Except the hardeners run on cap and the neut towers in 90% of lvl 5s will keep you at 0 without transfers. ------------------------------------------------- **** You're out of your mind!

Most lvl5's do soo much DPS, that you need 3-4 people to spread out the damage. Otherwise a solo tank gets ganked very quickly.
Any main tank will always be at max, 0 or 1 cap due to neut towers - So no active hardners etc. Neut towers take half as long as killing a carrier and once they are dead, almost all neut towers respawn so its pointless killing them.

lower sig radius, ample mids, t2 resists + 25% ship bonus resists = less bad times
edit: and can run passive resistance amps, making it immune to the neut towers. if you can sic the logistics boats on it in time, you'll be sitting pretty.

LvL 5's don't give a whole lot more isk, I've made more isk in lvl 4's. What they DO give is massive amounts of LP. I ran my first lvl 5 today solo in a Nighthawk, took 3 hours due to the low DPS, but I got over 53k LP...LP = isk. It will be a while before I do one again. No, I didn't loose my ship, it actually survived :)

Yes only a few missions are really worth it (ISK wise) but a lot of them are simply rubbish and boring. Kill 4 freighters here (massive HP, no gain from it), destroy structures there and gank a carrier ("Stray *insert any empire faction* Carrier") .. all i got from the carrier was a tag worth 5m ISK ... i needed over 2 hours for the carrier alone
But there ARE nice missions out there...
PS: even lvl 5 missions are definitively not the source for big amounts of faction tags
