Assuming that you have perfect skills for mining both, and used a fully fitted T2 hulk for the veld, and a mackinaw for the ice, which would make more money per hour???
Im pretty lazy so i just figured id ask, someone must know! Share the knowledge!
Oh, mining ice in high sec, btw. Obviously the dangerous ice will make more money, but danger scares me.

Funny you should ask, they make roughly the same profit per hour. Ice has the advantage of being more AFK-friendly, though.

Edited by: Amastat on 28/06/2008 20:03:15 At present, Veldspar on average is at a selling price of 3.0 ISK/pu. Without factor in refining, at a rate of 1000m3/min - you can mine at a revenue of 5.4 million ISK per hour at best.
There is different kinds of ice, and fuel prices vary - so how much you make will be determined by what kind of ice you choose to mine. The most profitable isotope type to go with right now I believe is Nitrogen Isotopes (White Glaze).
At this time in high sec: Nitrogen Isotpes can sell at a rate of 300-380 ISK/pu, Liquid Ozone can sell at a rate of 220-230 ISK/pu, and Heavy water at 25-30 ISK/pu, and Stront at around 600 ISK/pu.
So - at a rate of 500m3/min mining White Glaze, you would be looking at a profit range of 2.92-3.65 million ISK, mining White Glaze.
I don't know what all is in ice belts - sorry, never mined it before - there may be other ice that is better than that - but chances are it's not in high sec I bet.
I believe you can mine, by yourself at max skills /w the best fits, at a rate of almost 2034m3/min in a Hulk - 824m3/min in a Mackinaw mining ice. So, at the rate of profit for Ice and veld...
You'd bring in a max revenue of 10.98 million ISK per hour in the Hulk mining Veldspar. You'd bring in a max revenue of 6.01 million ISK per hour in the Mackinaw mining White Glaze.

Ok, well. I currently mine veld in my hulk, thats why i was asking. And since they make about the same, but the fields are much more sparse and id have to move from my current home system AND id have to buy a mackinaw, i'll just stick to mining with my hulk.
Thanks. |

Good idea - though they don't seem to be the same, seems like the Veldspar is almost double the profit Also keep in mind that if your a good producer, you can produce with the Veld, and increase its value - you cannot do that with ice products. |

I dont think anyone is dumb enough to get 60% only due to stupidity of mining ice. It needs a very specific reason. |

Don't do it AFK with a name like xjasdfa or you're likely to see me warping in on top of you with a fullgank Thorax and an alt to pick up whatever survives. |

However, the downside of Tritanium mining is that it's a ***** to haul compared to Ice. Mining ice in the Makinaw, your looking at 2340m3 of ice product to ship per hour of work - however, using the Hulk and mining Tritanium, your looking at a little over 36,000m3 per hour of work worth of Tritanium to ship around. Hope you have a freighter .
This is why it may be advisable for people to mine other high sec ore besides Veldspar - stuff like Omber, Kernite, or even Plagioclase. The profit is only a little lower, believe it or not - yet it's just a fraction of the space required to ship piles of Tritanium.
You can, believe it or not, make 11.6 million ISK per hour mining Kernite instead of Veldspar (more profitable) - and it's just under a mere 4000m3.
Lucky for me then, ive got a freighter. |

Mining for ice is a little different than Ore. But yes, Veld > Ice in terms of on-paper ISK per hour.
First off, ice "roids" are huge, so its practically impossible to run out of ice in the belt, as supposed to the beloved Veld rock, which the whole system could run out fairly quickly. As a bonus, it would be quite rare for your ice cube to "pop" also.
2nd, the ice cycles are so much longer, so its more AFK, semi-AFK friendly. And your ice cube won't pop within 15 minutes.
However, high sec ice systems are much more limited than decent mining systems. And they are .6 and lower so its much easier to get suicide ganked. The better ice barge, the Mack, is no where near as tough as a Hulk(not that the barges set records for their tanks). |
