Initial public release of skill training monitor for Linux.
pyEVE is written in python and pyQt. Multiple characters can be monitored. Application will put an icon in system tray and stay there. Primary platform is Linux and other unix-like operating system. Since it is written in python and is using Qt for GUI it should work on all platforms that Qt runs on. It was tested on Ubuntu 8.04 and Windows Vista.
Requirements:
Python 2.5.x with pyQt bindings Qt 4.3.4
pyEVE could probably work with older python and older Qt, but it wasn't really tested, so your mileage my vary.
You can get it from sourceforge.
Installation instruction: -unzip or untgz archive -run build.sh or build.bat -run pyeve.pyc in the deploy directory
All comments are welcome. Obligatory screenshots can be found here.

Wow, it looks really great, and works like a charm :)
Nevertheless, I still miss a couple of things. On the one hand, same as one can switch the view between the character details and the attributes, I would like to be able to see a summary of the skill levels as well (e.g. how many skills with level 1, with level 2, etc.). And I also miss having information on how much time it would require to train a certain skill to the next level.
At the same time, the monitor would be perfect if it allowed to plan skills same as EVEMon does, seeing the dependences among them, and which ones you require to use a certain item. This would however imply a lot more work, as the EVE database export would have to be read and interpreted, but it will also make pyEVE a serious competitor to all other tools out there.
Keep up the good work! |

Once I decide to rewrite the tree model view controller, this can be easily implemented. Right now the skill tree is very simple. For future releases there are plans for a skill tree that can display and filter skills by various parameters.

Skill planning is something that will be considered in the future. The whole planning stuff is somewhat complex and I really need a kick in the butt before I start doing something like that. :)

There is no need for the whole database just for skill planning, but Item and Ship browser EVEMon equivalents are another story. On the other hand, I don't know if I want to create EVEMon clone. EVEMon is really a great tool and all credits to developers. I'd love to see it running on Linux. I tried running it in Mono and the result was pyEVE in the end. :)

We'll try :)

/me kicks you swiftly in the butt! :)
Very nice work. Still some features away from GtkEveMon, but very nice nonetheless. Now, even QT lovers have their skill monitor. Thumbs up! |
