All skillbooks come from NPC vendors, so their prices are static.
Sometimes you might be lucky and find one cheaper, usualy caused by someone buying an extra book and finding they no longer need it. |

I seriously doubt someone will buy an extra capital skillbook and not need it.

i too think its pathetic for the pricing of some skill books by NPC's.
Its one thing to fly them, its quite another to train them. & its a crime to inflate prices on a " mere " book

Ah, but it's not just a mere book! It's a manual thicker then my head. It has to be. Otherwise it would not take me weeks to finish it. |

A crime you say?
CALL THE POLICE!
The skillbooks for a carrier cost about the same as one unfitted carrier. If you can't afford the books, you can't afford the ships.
Still, maybe you're right. If there's one thing EvE needs, it's more capitals.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

it's a nice screening feature put in by those lovely folks at ccp.
if the books are really expensive to you, you really can't afford to purchase, properly fit, insure, put in harms way and eventually lose a cap ship.
of course there are still pilots who sc**** together just enough mission isk to get the minimum skills and a t1 fitted carrier just to lose it an hour later while ratting or gate camping solo. those pilots make some of the most entertaining posts

& good on them if there solo. its the 20 vs 1 gankage i frown on. i went on the test server & ttempted to take a carrier out in my drake. i killed like 4 of his fighter, & had to keep warping away, & while i was warping, giving me the recharge time i needed to resume shooting.
as for killing a carrier? well, his shileds didnt even budge, but it was fun to muck about in

Dear DrBiologist,
because, if they were cheaper we would see more nationalistic crap on EVE than is contained in your signature.
To put it simply, even to one as such as you ....

Is it just me or has everyone missed the obvious reasoning for the price?
Capital ships are intended for Corps...not individuals. Hence the need (or strong desire) for fleet support, cyno pilots, and the large sums of cash needed to purchase and properly fit capitals.
And concerning players selling the books for a profit being a crime...welcome to capitalism. Do you know what ALL retail stores do? By God, they buy product and sell it for a profit.

It's not a book. Do you really think you could learn things like this from reading a book? Skill packs are electronic things that you attach to your pod or head or whatever that let you learn things like Neo learns kung-fu in the Matrix (albeit slower). This is why you can train skills while doing other things, like fighting, mining, flying, etc. Learning things like these skills manually would take years, maybe decades, not days, weeks, or months.
They're probably recorded from the changes in someone's brain learning something the hard way, so the more specialized and high-end the skill, the more expensive it would be, since the harder it is and longer it takes for the recordee to learn it manually.
Do you still think you're sitting in a bridge, yelling orders to officers sitting at terminals when you pilot a ship too?

What's so funny about that? In a lot of countries getting your license often costs more than the first car you buy.

The market would suck if items were all super cheap and everything was too easy, that's part the reason. The main reason is that capitals are kinda the pinnacle of what a combat pilot trains and spec's into.
Even if you choose to branch out into other races like most, and specialize in all t2 ships - you will eventually be left saying, "what now?", the answer is capital ships - this is the end of the line of training in a lot of ways for combat pilots.
Skillbooks tend to be priced based on how expensive the module/ship that requires them though. Battleships are the next largest ship to capitals, yet the book doesn't cost crap load, but defiantly not pennies - but books like Command Ships will cost a lot, because the ship itself is not cheap and skill intensive.
Capital ships both are very skill intensive, lots of supporting skills are required to use them well - and the ships themselves cost a lot. something like Cruisers are not very skill intensive and easy to train for, and cheap - so these books are really cheap. So - pretty much this is the answer to your question. ____________________

Here in the states my drivers in-class learning cost me 250$, behind the wheel training about another 150$, since I failed the road test the first time it cost me 30*2$, and the license it-self is run on a 50$ every 5 years deal.
So I would think the skill training required is a bit similar in EVE and real-life except its backwards in the order mentioned above.

Heh.
Nice example of 'first post answers the question, remaining posts make assumptions about the poster and make fun of them'.
The original question is a good one. EvE is market based so most prices rise and fall with supply and demand. Skillbooks seem to be less effected by this so it is a differnt mechanic worth at least asking about.

Totally agree. Lets have all skillbooks cost 100.000isk (Capital ones 1mil isk and the titan skillbook 10mil isk(!)), also we decrease the cost to produce all ships and we can have every noob in eve fly a Capital Ships! :D Somebody set up us the bomb |

Just wait till you check the skillcosr price for the Titan!
Seriously. IMHO the price for the Carrier is a good one. Its about half the price of what a carrier cost, so its on spot.
