I really want to thank Denidil for simplifying my life Total cost for this was $1,200 shipping included.
It will end up being the most powerful computer that I have ever owned, and it is upgradable. Thx!

I was going to buy a new one because I want to run two screens at maximum graphics settings, but it has occurred to me that I might want to build one instead. Whether or not I will do this depends on my effort Vs. reward (in true EVE fashion ) what I get out of it and how much money I save. So... In this thread build your dream machine so I can pirate your Computer building skills. Your max budget cannot exceed $1,500 The minimum requirements 1. Dual monitors with max graphical settings and 2. non-laggy Incarna Also... Are any components that you are using giving you issues when running EVE? Does alienware's costumer service really suck? ATM... I am pondering This Thread by Akita T and thinking about doing something like this. What do you all think about the set up recommended as her/his Gaming High-end Machine? Quote:320$(280$ with mail-in temp rebate) MSI GeForce GTX 570 1280MB *** 220$ Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz 130$ GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 Z68 (PCI-E x16,x8,x4) 125$ G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600, 7-8-7-24 timings, 1.6V *** 140$ 300GB WD VelociRaptor 10000RPM, 16MB Cache 75$ 2TB WD Caviar Green, 64MB Cache 120$RAIDMAX 850W SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC PSU, 2x34A (dual 12V rails) 75$ XCLIO ATX Full Tower (250mm + 360mm + several smaller fans) 20$ DVD writer = 1225 USD (or 1185 USD after rebate)
***-marked components can be doubled -> 1630 USD (1590 USD after rebates) total price with 2x GTX 570 in SLI and 4x4=16 GB RAM.
I don't know about the prices in the US, but a few guidelines from a quite experienced (I`d like to think) computer builder (hobby only): - if you get an Intel, get one with a "K" at the end (e.g. 2500K), because they're the only ones that are able to be overclocked; - get 8GB of RAM in two sticks of 4GB each. You'll be left with 2 more slots to stick another 2 sticks of 4 if you wish for that later; - carefully consider the SSD VS HDD dillema. Two 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black in RAID 0 offer 2TB of space with a comparable copy speed to that of a single SSD, and they're cheaper and offer 10 times the space. Personally, I don't see any differences on how the game acts whether it's running off an SSD or the HDD RAID. Loading times might be shorter. Might. - I would absolutely pass on the watercooling thingie; it's hard - maintenance-wise and it's noisy and if the pump fails the whole thing falls to bits; - AMD is a lot less powerful than the Intel at the moment (until Bulldozer comes, they say), but the prices are also much lower. Also to be served with assorted 4GB sticks. - get a branded power supply (PSU). Antec., OCZ, Seasonic, etc. They are pricey but they are worth their money. They are the backbone of your system, first line of defense should an overload hits the lines in your area; my PSU saved my PC several times, once with the price of its life, still it was a lot less expensive than the whole computer. - get an UPS (uninterruptible power supply); helps with protecting your PSU. - get 2 identical monitors. I have at the moment a Dell and a Philips, same resolution, but the Dell is a liiiiiitle bigger. Quite annoying to be honest. - get a dedicated sound card. Asus Xonar DX for example. Integrated sound in the motherboards is just crap.
Edit: facepalm, too late a reply. Grats on your system if you already ordered it |

Usually a "standard" power supply can be a no-name meta 0 piece of sansha poo (think Delux, Rasurbo and other firestarters). That is what he meant |

Chester D Molester wrote:Lots of Cooling. In fact your build should probably include a wind tunnel.
Seriously, I was wondering where the cooling was myself, I guess this is where those burnt up machines come from
I bought an Alienware versus build, the case has built in wind tunnels, and is designed ground up for dual GPUs. 875 watt power supply and liquid cooling.
I hate hearing fans, over cooling is the way to go IMHO. |

The 580s were a later edition, only about a month or so ago, the rig was built in February. I'm considering it to be honest, but at the same time they run great on air, and the H70 does an awesome job.
From experience with my current Palit card (a 1 Gig 8800GT), anything above the 'normal' max memory for video card type will likely be non-reference, and will not work with water cooling blocks.
If the 580 has a reference card from nVidia with 3 Gig cache, then it would fit a normal water block. The 8800GT did not have a 1 Gig configuration so my card cannot watercool.
