Edited by: Kazuma Saruwatari on 02/07/2008 11:34:52 If anyone doesnt know my past history, read my now-forgotten blog: Odd Pod Out Now with that out of the way, comes the dilemma I've activated my account to begin with for...
A couple of days ago, I've been feeling the urge to come back to EVE, even after the past history I've endured which has already gotten my family (especially the little ones) in hotter-than-wanted water.
I knew for a fact that I wouldnt be comfortable at all playing EVE, considering the now-tainted idea it carries for me and the rest of my kin.
Then a weird event happened a couple of days ago. An old highschool batchmate of mine, who owed me a couple of bucks, in a sick and twisted way (more or less an injoke of him being a joker of the group), gave me 3 10day ETC's (which I've just put in, and are valid, considering the time my account has been extended for) to pay back some of the money he owed me before leaving for a family reunion of his in somewhereidontknowinEurope.
So I had 3 10day ETC's that were sitting on my desk.
I did the sensible, EVE-playing player thing to do: use em on my account.
Cue guilt and common sense knawing at the back of my skull right... now.
I know for a fact that if indeed, I'll be playing this game again, it wont on be this moniker/character/toon/avatar/whathaveyou, so I've come to a crossroads in my EVE future.
1. Sell this character (still dont know how), donate isk to eve-radio (of which I have muchos respect for) 2. Sell this character, use isk to fund new, secret, nooneelsewillknow character from scratch 3. Keep the character, live with it, even if I wont be having that much fun, nor will my family like the idea again. 4. Wait the 30days worth of ETC time, make the decision then.
So, whilst I download the client, I'm sitting here besides myself considering the potential implications (having so much fun like days of old, or living besides myself with guilt that the incident that forced me off EVE may happen again).
(edit: I see that CCP still hasnt gotten around fixing forum access to my country...) -

Im clearly not up to scratch on your history, why would your family not like you plating eve? Why has eve got your younger family in hot water?

5) pretend to sell the character while actually keeping it (giving you plausible deniability should you encounter someone from your past).
Anyway, if you like the game and your family doesn't mind you playing I'd get a new character and just start over. This time don't tell anyone who you are.

Option 2.
And did you ever get the opportunity to smack the kid around? It would be very satisfying, no? Also, are you able to tell us what happened to the kid otherwise?
Would love to know if justice was served in anyway.

addon info:
Actually, I later found out (though I kinda figured out by the first time he called) he was mentally unstable. Had a long list of mental issues up the wazoo. Thing is though, parents thought he was okay enough to play videogames. Kinda shows how far gone the kid was anyway.
And no, even if I had a shot at getting back at the kid, he's too far gone to even coherently realize that I'm getting a ***** at his skull, so I didnt bother.
What has bothered me is that because of this incident, anti-griefer/anti-EVE-online advocates down here (yes, there's a watchdog group that is against griefing in all forms of MMO's here) actually had the gall to contact me and my family and wanted us to lend our support against MMO's and get them banned.
I dont know who is more insane, the kid or this watchdog group... -

Arhm....
If you are not happy with the character, then sell him. Otherwise why invest more time in the new one? Screw the unstable kid, who cares, get a restraining order, easily done and does not cost you anything, especially if you have witnesses and phone records.
And just make sure they are not insane, next time, and start with your mobile phone, again, once you determined they are not insane. Mobile numbers can be changed in a heartbeat and are virtually untraceable to a regular Joe.
Number of my friends in EVE have my RL details, never had a madness like that before.

I've just read your blog, and have to say that in my opinion you are innocent and should carry on in EVE with your original character. The kids parents should of been doing their job properly; which they obviously hadn't been doing, and you shouldn't throw away all the time, money and effort you have put into the game. Horribly unfortunate things like this all the time, and you can't let them get to you. Get back in the game and move past this. Just remember to keep who you really are, completely separate from the game in future You Cannot Do That To A Planet |

Edited by: Mazzarins Demise on 02/07/2008 12:54:31 I wouldn't quit because of one dumb douche bag. If anything, you can laugh at him because after all his obsessiveness and want to get back at you, nothing happened. What has he accomplished? Not a bloody thing. If he has to resort to throwing rocks at your car, then that is pretty sad and pathetic. If anything, the kid NEEDS a good beating.
If you truly wanted to get back at him, but again it may stir everything up all over again, there are many things you can do to protect you and your family under the umbrella of the law. No I am not referring to anything violent either.
If you quit now because of this and if they read this post, they would win. They would know they got to you and the potential torment that would follow may be unbearable. Don't let that happen. I'm not saying to continue playing forever in fear of them finding out that you quit, but at least quit for the right reasons and not because some stupid kids forced you to do so.

Thats the scary bit. They're made up of grandmothers, single aged old women, some senile politicians, and a teenager who started the thing a couple of years back.
Dont know if they have a website. Can pretty much guarantee it'll get DDoSed by any sane gamer down here, for sure. -

I wouldn't be concerned. These groups hold no power whatsoever. The chances of anything happening in their favor are slim to none, and I'm leaning more towards the none part of it.

Use the brain you were born with and decide. You decide. "I am not a gun".
If you can't do that then:
1)Find a tall building and check out your drag coefficient.
2)Do a 100mph crash test with you as the dummy.
3)See if a screen door on a submarine really is a bad idea. A deep ocean trench works best for this test.
Or just play the game, have a good time and forget about everything else.

1. Log into the game with a NEW character. 2. Post your cellphone number and home address into Local and ask people to call/visit you to give their advice on what to do with your OLD character and how to avoid future problems.

TBH, in this case, with a RL threat, CCP should be able to change your character name into something new. IMO that should be the thing I'd go for. Starting all over again, esp. if you have a 20+ mill SP character is such a PITA.

Good idea! Petition CCP with the background and ask for the character name to be changed.

ROFLMAO
Yeah cuz, you know, your character's life is in jeopardy and if you change your character's name then the 'kid' in the story won't find you in RL right?
Being sceptical of all things on the net, I can only believe this to be a story anyway. Not like someone can ask anyone from CCP if it's all true since this would be a privacy issue. Story safe.

To be honest i think you should generalize this a little bit more, hard as that might be because of the intrusion in your private circumstances. This situation has a lot more to do with your rl locality than with the game, try to convince yourself of that because imo you'd needlessly be missing out on what probably is for you just as anyone else one of your favourite forms of entertainment.
One could say 'small world' since you got in conflict with the kid through eve, but being as unstable as you mention there is just as high a chance he'd have bothered you in some way with no involvement of the game.
My suggestion would be to try distancing the game from your experience and attempt to enjoy it either with your old char, or converting the time and effort invested into isk by selling it and starting over with a big wallet or buying another char.

As previously mentioned I'd agree with contacting ccp and seeing if they would be willing to alter your character name etc.
Also due to the background I'd at the very least, as previously mentioned, obtain a restraining order. As violence and abuse has already been threatened against your family and the person knows where you live I would hope that you realise that this is a genuine police matter.
In saying this I wouldn't give up on your original character, I've had friends who have done in the past and lost all taste for the game, stick with your original and seek CCP's aid in regard to altering the name.
Best of luck. /Zacheria Malfor

wow thats pretty crazy, stupid kids.
Personally, seeing as he has caused you a good deal of grief and has threatend your families and love ones, I would first get a restraining order, and then report his threats to CCP. Get his ass banned.
So then when u comes to egg your house, you can call the police and have him arrested woot!!!

I doubt CCP will ban him for something he did IRL.
And for the name-change suggestion : It's to prevent the kid harassing him in game when he logs on again, I'm not that stupid. The game and IRL are 2 seperate things, and should be addressed seperate.

CCP will ban you in a millisecond for making any kind of RL threat to another player, let alone a physical attack. I am sure during the "Investigation" that Perma ban was one of the end results, which probably didn't make "Damion" very happy.
