How much would you pay for Lifetime Subscription ?
My answer is : 400
Let's not get into currency discussions. Americans pay dollars, europeans pay euros. Just like with current subscription. Please don't get into currency discussions.

Edited by: Amastat on 03/07/2008 21:34:48 Edited by: Amastat on 03/07/2008 21:34:25 That wouldn't happen - too many people absolutely love EVE to death - and everyone would buy them, even if costed 400 or 600 USD or EUROs possibly. Yea - that would make a lot of money for CCP, on the day everyone buys that - but they'd lose a ton of subscription cash after a while.
Most MMO's don't have lifetime subscription option for this reason, unless they are crap MMO's that don't have that many players.
In the event CCP was seriously stupid and did make that feature, thinking it wouldn't cause them to go bankrupt - I'd possibly pay that much, maybe even double or triple even. I know I'll be playing to the very end.
Now - the even bigger question: how much would it cost if it was a GTC, and you bought it with ISK - how much ISK would you pay for it? :P ____________________

Edited by: Tharukan Desm''ar on 03/07/2008 21:36:38 I don't believe it will ever happen like that. Most MMO's peak after the 4 year mark and thats why some tend to have lifetime membership. With Eve though if things progress as is. Things are only beginning. Plus with a minor and major expansion every year I'm happy not needing to pay extra for those.

For less than 2000 currency units, you could probably open up a savings account that will earn enough cash yearly to pay for a full year subscription, so that's the absolute upper limit. I suppose 600 would be reasonably fair "lifetime subscription" offer. But I think I wouldn't pay more than 400, if even that much.
P.S. 6 bil ISK in EBANK savings accounts should be enough to keep you rolling in ISK-bought GTCs - there was somebody saying 4 bil, but that's a bit low, I think they didn't look at the current GTC prices

I wouldn't pay a 'lifetime' subscription for anything unless there's a reasonable expectation of the service being continued (and used by me) for at least 15 years. If I had that expectation, I'd consider paying up to 4 or 5 times the yearly rate.
Of course - as has been pointed out above - any service expecting to be in operation that long wouldn't even consider offering lifetime subscriptions.

I don't see why this is bad, from ccp's point of view: Eve has ~230k subscribers, if half of them pay 500$, CCP gets 50 mil. They can put this on bank account and get 5% dividends, which gives them 2,5mil annual. They don't have to make any updates and stuff, since they don't care if someone quits, as they have the cash already, so they can live on hawaii or mallorca and drink bacardis all day long while receiving 2,5 mil each year and being multi-millioneaires

Edited by: Liang Nuren on 03/07/2008 22:44:28 I'd probably pay $400-600 for a lifetime subscription. $400 is a no-brainer for me, and $600 is stretching the bounds of reality.
The biggest problem would be that I would lose the ability to "vote with my wallet", so to speak.

ú650 is fair
ú520.12 is what it costs for 5x 1year subs.
i think this could be a damn good idea for CCP, Eve will still be around in 5 years, but a lot of the people playing now who bought the life time sub, may not be playing, meaning CCP has there money but does not have to provide there service to them.
ú1000 would be better for CCP, but i would suggest some kind of special reward for lifetime sub players if it were to cost that much.

For 1000 GBP I would think yea, some sort of reward, like, I don't know, you personal Station in .5 + Space, and a Titan? Because I will be damned if I pay that much for anything else - thats $2000 US here for me, and I could definitely use 2 grand for things other than EVE, unless a "non-conquerable" station in .5+ became available.

The internets says:
"A lifetime subscription for Hellgate London costs $149.99 USD, replacing a monthly fee of $9.99 USD."
"Gamers who preorder LOTR Online will have the option of choosing a special monthly subscription rate of $9.99 or a lifetime membership for a one-time fee of $199."
Says a lot about how long they expect a "hardcore" player to play their game

It probably says more about how they view the MMO market. Even Eve has an average subscriber lifetime of 8 months...

I have a lifetime LOTRO subscription and tbh its worth it, no need to buy timecards, worry about billing cycles or cc card screw ups ect, 1 payment and login when you want, take a 6 month break ect come back and know all your stuff will still be there ect.

I would not change to a lifetime payment cause when I threaten to quit CCP will just say go ahead, we have your money anyway.
But if I was going to change I would only be willing to stump up a few hundred quid. Life is fickle, maybe Eve will run out of steam, maybe I will run out of steam, maybe George will press the wrong button.

Yeah, the more I think about this, the more I realize I'd be paying $400/ea for my accounts. I'd probably pay $400 for all of my accounts. Maybe even $600. But... yeah.

Unlimited accounts for $400, now we are talking :)
$400 is about 2 1/2 yrs of subrsciptions so I wouldn't go for it even though I've been getting close to playing for that long. EVE is truly the best MMORPG, but you never know when your corp/alliance/friends will quit or you lose interest or SOE takes over and ruins the game or EVE2 or soemthing better comes out. I also like the idea of pulling out at any second and not "wasting" any money.
I do find lifetime subscriptions to be fascinating, some people must buy them and then stop playing after a year and some people must fully utilize it and play everyday. It would certainly give CCP a big one-time cash injection. --
