I am curious as to what everyone thinks is the optimal loadout on the Punisher? I just got mine and while I have a few ideas, I would like to hear some opinions.

3 150mm rails (scout)/ 1 SB/1 AB/4 power diag
Simplistic, but effective. You can replace 1-2 of the power diags with modified OD's or a co-processor if your electronics and/or Navigaton skills are not up to par..

bah, caldari crap.
as usual use beams only. My setup a week ago was 1 modulated medium beam, and 2 dual modulated light beams, 3x stamped heat sink and a alpha power diag. sheild booster and a AB. All multy freq christals. No hauling of ammo and you can kill pirate cruisers with this setup.

Thanks for your responses! Snotty, I like your setup, but may I ask where am I able to find the stamped heat sinks and alpha power diags? Are they a loot item or are they common enough to find on the market?

the stamped heat sinks drop from the gate pirates, sancha's the one's with 2k/3k bounty mod medium beam drops from 10k manhunters (i've looted mine a few patches ago, dunno what drops them now) mod. duals from the 6k one's.
for beams get engeneering as high as possible and look for other market/loot stuff that gives cap recharge. Even the devices that drops shield recharge are ok (you have a shield booster to fix that one). Duno about PvP but for pirate hunting its great.
Also see if you can find a micro smart bomb and see if you can fit it, nice to get some missiles out of the way but i mostly forget to use itand just take the missiles head on while killing the pirates.
For starters just buy one med beam and one or two duals and go hunting some 3k pirates in 0.5+ space, see what they drop and pretty soon you'll get the hang of it.

I wouldn't worry too much about stamped heat sinks at this point. You are better off with power diags.
They nerfed the heck out of our heatsinks.
If you do decide to use heatsinks you might as well buy basics off the market, they are .05 and the stamped are only .07 and it would take you a week to get 4 stamped. _____ m0o

AB = Afterburner.
I don't bother with AB, if I need to grab something I use my executioner which is kitted for speed ( hampered a little by 1 med slot but still quick ).
I'm a little under equipped on my punisher - twin dual light beams. Med slot has a med booster and low slots have two heatsinks, agility improver who's name escapes me and something just cos I got the room ( armour I think ). This can clear 4 rats in a level 0.4 just. Going to get the skills for, and get a PDS and some cap boosters.

I was using 2 medium modulated energy beams, and 1 150mm rail gun. However, it would appear that was nerfed things a little after the last patch, because now I don't have the energy grid any more and will need engineering 5. So, I replaced the 150mm with a 125mm. Looking into a projectile loadout, since corp started getting some scout drops...
In the medium slots I've got an annointed EM ward, and a small clarity ward shield booster. 1 power diag, 1 stamped heat sink, and a couple items for cap regen I can't recall their names. You need good cap regen for this loadout to make good use of the booster, and em ward, while using lasers. Regular lasers won't work, you'll need the ones I specified or similar, with about 4, or 5 energy consumption per shot. My cap regen was 122seconds, 130 when I swapped out a module for the stamped heat sink... Still experimenting with that.
Lasers hit for between 30-50 on avg. The 150mm rail was ok at around 15-30 with anti matter ammo. 125mm is more around 10-20. All 3 weapons fire fairly fast, hence the need for dropped lasers with reduced energy consumption, but absolutely great dmg. (multi freq crystals btw.) The em ward gives 70% em resistance, but steep skill req's, including tactical shield manipulation, but well worth the investment in my opinion. Like I said though still heavy energy use, and you will need cap increasing skills and modules in the low slots.
I'm flying a merlin now for a change... Need to train my missle skills up higher to make a good comparison. Definitely like being able to mount the em, and heat ward. 70% resistance to lasers is what that amounts too. So, with heavy missles in the mix I might stick with the merlin. Time will tell I guess, the reduced power grid hurts...

My punisher I typically equip with: 1 Modulated energy Beam I 1 Medium Beam Laser (only because I dont have two modulated), both with MF crystals (which will change as soon as they put in range mods) 1 150mm dual light artillery w. EMP or Plasma 1 "regard" Power transfer or a Micro smart bomb
Small Clarity Ward Booster AB / Capacitor recharge array 4 x PDU I's
Running pretty close to the limits on CPU and Powergrid though, even with various skills @ 4 |

I've been using 3 Modulated Medium Pulse Energy Cannons with Multifrequency crystals and a micro 'vehemence' EM smartbomb in the other HP slot. In the low slots I had one Power Diagnostic, Two Alpha Boosters and a Basic Capacitor Power Relay to speed recharge time. The mids are tough, one needs to be a Shield booster and afterburners are great, but recently I've actually been mounting a Medium Clarity Ward Booster since i've been primarily hunting light cruisers at close range (as a result of the pulse lasers and smartbomb ranges), though you might be able to squeeze on a cap booster in there...

the modulated drop from pirates, usally one "level" above the normal one's.
so a 2k pirate drops the normal beam, then a 3k pirate drops the modulated one. usally one in 20 or so is modulated.
this at least is my experiance

Mining: 4 co processors 3 Miner I's
Fighting: 2 Modulated Medium Energy Beams with Mulit S 2 small clarity wards 2 Stamped heat sincs 2 Beta Naught Tracking modes
I fight in 0.1 space and kill 3 Slavehunters and 1 Enslaver groups at once with a punisher. I can make 150K an hour plus loot. **I'm a flower, watch me blossom... and kill** |
