Out of curosity, how many of you still wear a watch for the purpose of actually keeping time? Or do you just wear the watch out of habit and rely on your cell phones clock these days to tell you exact time instead of having to rely on the hands of your clock?
How many of you have given up on watches all togeather and exclusively use your cell phones clock now? -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:
Players who post are like stars, there are bright ones and those who are dim.

I don't wear a watch on a daily basis anymore, mainly because there is no need to. I have my PC in front of me for most of the day and it has a perfectly serviceable clock. However when I travel I wear a watch, simply because airports tend to hire experts in the field of clock hiding and camouflage. Especially in modern terminals where any sort of time display is usually incorporated into the flight information display and is therefore unreadable from more than a metre away. Airports should have large clocks like old train stations used to have.

Cell phone here. At home and at work I have widget clocks on my pc's not to mention at work theres a clock every 40 yards in any direction.
While driving I have a dashboard clock on the truck and jeep and if I ever get around to it I can program the clock in the stereos too (same with microwave) and there are also clock on the moving billboards at like banks n such.
For the rest of the time it's the cellphone.
I used to be one of those kids in school who always had a watch though and the ghostly pale white stripe of skin to go with it.

As for me, I actually wea a pocket watch. I never liked wearing a watch when I was younger as the rubber band would stick to the skin and if it was a particularly hot day it would be even more unconfortable having it on. I try not to use my cell phone for its clock feature, though if im in a car its more practical to use the cell phones watch over the pocket watch. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

I wear watches but not so much as a timepiece and more of an accessory in the same sense as a belt and cuff links, the line to draw is between taste and trash and wear something quality but still discreet.

In my line of work, I need to be aware of the time at all times, so a watch is a must for me. Quite frankly, I don't have time to dig out the phone or look for a clock every 3 minutes or less. _______________________________

I often keep my cellphone in a buttoned-up pouch on my vest/in one of my backpack straps (you know the ones that have pockets and all) so its easier and faster for me to look at my watch.
Also, even on my PC, I have my watch on the side of the keyboard and use that as well, even though normally the desktop of any windows Pc has the clock in the bottom right. The problem is that its usually in too-small a font due to my resolution size, and my watch is way bigger. -

I wear a watch constantly, as I always have to know the time, and am constantly planning things out. I remember when I was 5 I got a micky mouse analog watch for christmas to learn to tell time. Then I remember in 1995 I had a basic timex digital watch that I wore every where, much to the point the case cracked and the water resistance was no good, and I accidently jumped in the water at the beach with it on. Surprisingly it still worked, but the display was buggered. Then I got a nicer analog watch after that, with the rotating dial on the outside with indiglo (I've always had Timex as long as I can remember, except the Micky Mouse, don't remember the brand). That lasted until I started high school when I got a really nice Timex Iron Man with an internal memory for up to 50 laps on the chronograph, 5 timers, 10 alarms and a small phone book (used a small LED thing to read flashing lines off the monitor to store it) with a second time zone (set to EVE time of course). That lasted me 7 years until I got my newest watch in January 2007, a nice Timex Perpetual Calendar analog watch with date display. It looks nice, and professional. Ny next watch when I get the money and presteige will be a nice Tag Heur, going to spend 2 grand for an nice automatic watch that will keep me going for the next 50 years until I can get a Rolex.
I still check my cell phone for the time when I need to sync up with friends for a meeting, but my watch is my primary. A day with out my watch is a day of insanity, I remember a few times forgetting my watch and going crazy about not knowing the time. With out my cell its peace and quiet. One time I left my watch at my GFs house, and spent 20 minutes fishing out an old digital watch from behind the fridge because it was driving my insane not having a watch on.
My watch is never very far from me, when on the computer its on my desk or in a pocket usually, and I carry it around when not wearing it. Its like an extention of my self, you don't realize how important and useful it is until you don't have it. -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is born right handed, only the great over come it.

Can't remember the last time I didn't wear a watch, without there being some very good reason not to wear one( being ill, taking a shower, etc.)
Current watch is getting close to 11years of service and you can tell by the way my wrist looks. Especially during the summer months.
STill actually use my watch to check the time too. Althoug for some reason I grab my phone once in a while too. Which takes about a minute just to check the time because I always have the keys locked so the screen turns black. Only place I never use my watch to check the time is in the car. Got its own clock which allows me to keep both hands on the wheel.

Yes I pretty much always wear a watch, and it has to be within a couple of seconds of the correct time. My Linux servers run "ntpd" so are perma-synched with an accurate time serverr, so when I'm logged into one of those I tend to set my watch by that.

For a long time I switched to using my phone to tell the time, but eventually I went back to a watch as it is more convenient, and its there the odd time I don't have my phone, like in a cinema.
And I always want to tell the time when I'm in the cinema, because I'm always wondering how long until the film starts. -

I wear watches on my right hand because I'm a left handed writer (i'm cross-dominant), but I still use my right hand for my mouse, and playing instruments, so the catches on the watches scratch my glass mouse pad and scratch the wood on instruments so i just don't wear them any more.
I also don't keep my phone with my as much as most people, majority of the time i just guess what time it is and hope I'm not late.

Arrr don't you know cell phones these days have silent and vibrate options? Altough some cell phones vibrates are just as long as a ringer BRRRRRZZZZZZZ BRRRRRRZZZZZZZZZZ My BlackBerry's vibrate is silent, although not noticeable if I'm doing anything that requires any amount of concentration (Thus why it works so well then I'm in class)
But I never wore a watch never will, not that I care about what time it really is...

I used to wear watches when I was in middle school (6-7 years ago now) and in grade school, but I kept losing them and never felt like replacing them.
Once I got a cell phone I just started using that entirely.
Also, I have really small wrists anyway, so I can't find any comfortable watches nowadays __________________________________

oh I hate watches almost as much as I hate mobile phones lol. As you can guess I don't wear a watch, simply cause I have thin wrists and most men's watches drawf me which ain't a cool look lol that they always feel so damn heavy that I feel I am being weighted down. As for mobiles, excuse me but sometimes I don't feel like being in contact, especially if I am out and about just enjoying life..I don't want it spoiled by a phone. I have a mobile, but it hardly ever has any credit and is as rarely on. There are enough churchs with clocks if I need the time

I wear a watch because I can't be bothered fumbling around in my pockets for my phone whenever I need to know the time. __________________________

Ditto.
I know this is just me, but I find that, when asked for the current time by someone, I feel somewhat tacky pulling out my phone.

Used to have a trusty Casio G-Shock that recently gave out. That sucked.
I feel naked without a watch on, plus its a pain in the ass to see the time when I'm cycling. I have to travel "time-blind" and hope i'm generally on time!
So yes. Watch all the way, its a lot easier to flick a glance at my wrist pull out my phone, get the backlight to turn on.. etc.

After watching the intro of "Easy Rider" I decided it's a good idea to live without a watch altoghether. My cellphone reads "00:00" all the time.
I'm late from time to time, but **** it, live is easier that way

I have a watch I wear constantly, and like 2+ clocks. I'm thinking of gettiing an atomic watch as mine falls behind a month after setting it. I hear they go through batteries though.
No cell phone though. __ Rorqual AKA Mega Maid

Edited by: Sokratesz on 09/07/2008 21:21:33 I'd rather leave the house without my phone than without my watch. I bought a decent one a long time ago and it's one of the things i just can't do without.
i've got a slight variant on the left one stylish, small, lightweight, and only about a hundred bucks. very reasonable for an accesory i will probably be wearing for 10 years

I always wear a watch, I used to have a plastic strap and it would get so smelly in the summer.
But now I have a metal one and it's both comfortable and functional! (I promised myself that I would say that in a post today...never thought that I would actually get to use it in a non-kinky way.)
Most of my friends and my girlfriend use their mobile, just to prove a point I tell them the time just as they get it out of their pocket. Watches really are quicker.

Next time, wait until they look at their phone, then tell them the time at the last second. (: __ Rorqual AKA Mega Maid

Thanks to this thread, I just ordered a cheapo atomic watch. I'll see how that goes.

I still wear a watch - I like to know the time/date/whatever at a glance. I don't carry a cell phone in my pocket. I wear a Seamaster most of the time, but generally strap on a Suunto Core for biking/fishing/climbing/whatever in the mountains.

I rarely take my watch off, it just feels wrong and hopeless when it comes to timekeeping, also much more convinient than phone. -------------------------------- No sig, is a sig as well. |
