I gave up on mining shortly after getting a procurer (lawl, skipped cruisers) because I realized:
1. Mining is incredibly boring 2. It would take months to be able to fly a coveter/hulk
So I rerolled Gallente so I could pirate/pvp/actually enjoy the game.
Evemon is showing that it would take 10ish days to actually be able to get in a thron, but what skills would I need to be able to fit/fly a blasterthron well?

1) Blaster skills (a.k.a. t2 large blasters + gunnery) 2) Fitting Skills 3) Cap Management Skills 4) Navigation Skills 5) T2 Web/Disruptor 6) Good Drone Skills 7) Rigging Skills 8) Tank Skills (resistances/reppers) 9) Gallente BS 5
Thats just off the top of my head, its a lot more than 10 days. ----------------------------------

to get into a hulk and use it competently will take the same amount of time to fly a megathron competently..

Apart from all the support skills, which is a different chapter completely, and which you will need to go through regardless of what ship you want to get into…
…EVEMon offers the capability to look up the various Battleclinic fittings for any given ship, and can give you a training plan for the skills required to actually use that fit. You can use that as a template and then add the support skills listed above.

Hey guys, I'm currently flying a Thorax, with less than 1 million SP in gunnery. In fact, I only have medium hybrid turret trained to 1! How about them apples?! ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

I takes far far less time to be competent in a hulk than a Megathron.
Gunnery Skills alone are going to be 3 months, T2 heavy drones + support skills 2 months at least, add cap skills, mwd, gallente BS...
Hulk requires Barge 5, Astrogeology 5, Exhumers IV, Refining V, Refinery Eff V, and ore skill 4, few drone, shield and cap skills.
Skip the Megathron for a moment, get Gallente Cruiser V, nav skills and some drone skills, buy an Ishtar and join a 0.0 alliance.
Nothing special, not big or clever, just 20 fighters and one hell of a tank.... |

He's referring to the 1600mm plate + light blaster Thorax.
To be honest, meh. Consider the 800mm and heavy blaster version.

Word. The 1600mm/small neutron Thorax may have worked a few years ago (there are some very entertaining videos floating around)...but not now. These days, small guns on a Thorax is simply blasphemy. Thoraxes are not meant to last for months. Set it up to melt faces, dive in, rinse [replace], repeat.
The Thorax is a great cruiser for anyone with 2 million to 60 million SP. Just depends on what you do with it.

I think thorax is the funnest (is that a word?)cruiser around. Vexor is fun too but the thorax just has class and you haven't pvp'ed until you died or survived a 1on1 with a thorax.

I will always prefer my 1600mm Thorax, simply because it is lulzy how difficult it is to kill, and it is dirt cheap to fit. -

You could be effective in a blasterthron with BS 3, modest armor skills, and T1 blasters. You certainly don't need anything near BS 5 and T2 guns to make proper use of a BS.

Effective as in "my HAC outdamages your BS"? Sorry but t1 fit lowskill BS are just cannon fodder. Better stick with BC+t2 guns than BS+t1 guns.

Well, if you go with cheapo lowend T1 named fits (like, oh, say, "Limited" blasters, which are actually CHEAPER than T1) and a fully insured boat, you might actually lose less cash than a T2-fited cruiser when you pop, while being able to absorb and deal similar amounts of punishment. And a full "lowend" Mega fit can costs down to what, 7 mil ISK ? Plus again, what, 8 mil after insurance for the ship ? That's a paltry 15 mil ISK actual loss or so when it blows up. I mean, think 60-75k EHP and 500-750 output DPS or so depending on skills and cheap weapon size picked... even more if you go with faction ammo (but that can cost significantly extra). That's not that bad, for that price... or is it ?
